Tech vs Magic - you're so correct! They way I think of it is that in a magical world where only some group can use magick, non-magick users would be akin to people with disabilities. And Tech would be akin to prostheses.

Dude, I mean Dainiel. I was listen to the radio just the other day, and this woman was taking about about Octopuses (Octopies?) She said, there is no animal on Earth that are more different than us, and they aliens on Earth. Cosider this, most people who work with them, like them, when exposed to them. She told this story where this one where a woman was frighten of Octopuses, and they repelled her. After a few weeks, the repulsion vanished, and she liked them just fine. She said, "When you work with octopuses, you just have this feeling, that there is something there, a consciousness looking back at you, and it's not horrible.

I mean the question about whether magic or technology is more powerful in terms of conflict is kind of silly since it can be however the worldbuilder wants it. Magic is not something that exists in this world, and so is a totally free variable that one can alter and change into as many permutations as one wants. Technology is also a variable, albeit a more restricted one, since one can place a technological level at whatever place you want in history.

I've never quite understood the concept of a "redemption arc" in fiction. (Or real life, even!) What is the standard for the wrongdoer to be considered "redeemed"? Who sets that standard? After all, there are things in life that cannot be "fixed" or undone. The core of "redeemed" means bought back / paid for. Does the wrongdoer decide what is sufficient payment for what they've done? And payment to whom? The person, family, or society they have wronged?

I do agree that authors often do focus too much on women’s physical appearance, but in my reading experience I’ve found it happening with men in a roughly equal amount. Men are also initially introduced with focus on their height, muscle, jawline, ect. However when the characters physical attributes are unremarkable I find it not mentioned much for both men and women. Just my experience so far. Loved the video though, great job.

Recently saw your video on the different subgenres of fantasy and noticed that you haven't gone into alternate history much. I can recommend Harry Turtledove. He's got a great series about aliens invading during WWII, and it covers from multiple viewpoints all the political and physical interactions between all the players. You know some more realistic and serious take on an intelligent race with its own cultural and biological natures that means to conquer and rule with superior-to-the-time tech... but not really wanting to drop nukes and ruin the planet for the colonization fleet coming in sometime behind them... He's also got some similar stuff, like what if Robert E Lee was at the Alamo, or if the South had won the war. Though I haven't read into those, I was more interested in his magical version of WWII. Dragons stand in for planes, behemoths for tanks, leviathans for submarines, crystal balls for radio communication, ley lines as natural energy sources and ships/trains that allows fast travel but only along those lines, and other stuff like that. Still a gritty view of war from perspectives on all sides and in all sorts of positions and occupations as he does in his alien invasion series.

I have been thinking about your Lightbringer review off and on ever since I watched it, and "divisive" is the word that sums up that volume and ending to a tee. I too recieved my copy early and tore through it, but was heartbroken with disappointment with how sloppily I felt that it was done, how too many things were tied up too nearly with not enough explanation, NEXT SENTENCE IS A VERY VAGUE SPOILER. (ex: The Secret Pirate Queen reveal and Immortals plotline wrap up, then reflection on the integration of that into the story as a whole were both gutwrenching in their sloppiness and hastiness.) The book was so divisive, i am divided with myself, and as a result I can't even rate it as a whole work, because you have the first 1/3rd which was 15/10 amazeballs! Then the last 1/3rd, which suffered frim Night Angel Ending Syndrome, It felt rushed, sloppy, hasty, victories unearned, way too fucking many fakeouts, there were things that should have been explained, literal deus ex machina, timeline issues, and I feel like the quality of the writing dropped in that portion of the book, and got worse in the epilogues. I am super, super hugely dissapointed in this book, and I can't wait for your spoiler review, when you can expand on the issues.
