You need TWO Dash Cams - Garmin Mini 2 & Garmin 67W 4K

How many collisions involve the rear of a car? Do you need a dash cam facing backwards? Do you need a dash cam that records the inside of your car?
Did you know that 39% of all collisions happen behind you?
This is why I have installed two dash cams in our Ford F150.
The dash cams in this video are available here:
Garmin Dash Cam Mini 2: amzn.to/3EtBgtA
Garmin Dash Cam 67W: amzn.to/3LbmJqo
Garmin Parking Guard Cable: amzn.to/3Rhnlyi
Garmin also sells a front & rear combo dash cam: amzn.to/3Z8p8I7

Good video. I've been thinking about mini 2 for the longest time to put in the back of my vehicle. Already have the Garmin 66w in the front. Thanks for making my decision easier!

Hi can you confirm that you can plug x2 devices into the OBD usb ports for Garmin dash cams . Ie one for front camera and one for rear

Yes it is possible although it is not the route I have used. Garmin sell a specific cable for this on Amazon: amzn.to/3VX9zTF - this has two USB ports coming from an OBDII port.

Very good video. Good explanation of the pros/cons of the question. You make a compelling case for two separate cameras. I have the Mini 2, with the Garmin OBD power adapter using the maintenance port. The Garmin app is an issue. You offered a video on how to wire, I might suggest one also on how to integrate the two video feeds. Both would be great follow-up items.

I hear good things about the OBDII power adapters. There is a video coming shortly on the Garmin Drive App and how to combine the footage from both cameras. I'll do one on the wiring too.

Great video. I have a 2019 F-150 Platinum, very similar to your vehicle as far as the interior specs, however on another video you stated that you would not purchase the Garmin 67 again, instead you would purchase the Garmin mini 2 instead. Well that got me to thinking, and for my first purchase of dash cams, I’d like both front and rear, therefore purchase two Garmin mini 2 cams for both the front and rear. I’m just not sure yet if it’s possible to link the two together for obviously in case of an incident. Any thoughts on how this is possible. I’m not very tech savvy 😅. Thanks in advance and keep up the good work!!! Also I like the 24 hour parking guard, so I’m assuming that I have purchase TWO cables, one for each set up???

The 67W has better resolution, wider field of view and has GPS to document where you are and what speed you are doing. At the time that video was released the extra $$ for the 67W over the Mini 2 was more than a hundred bucks, which in my opinion is not worth it. If you don't want GPS then I would still say to just get the Mini 2. You can combine the front & rear footage into one video clip but not in real time, it is done in the Garmin Drive app after recording but then you get a combined picture-in-picture video. I think the idea is that you only do it when you need to capture the two video clips such as after a collision. That's how it works in my truck, it will work the same way with two Mini 2's. The cameras do not need to be wired together or anything, you just add them both to the Garmin Drive app on your phone. Mini 2 does have the Parking Guard feature, you are correct you will need two of the Garmin cables to power it. Thanks for the feedback, hope it helps!

If you are looking to capture people's driving and to use that for education, I would probably look at a GoPro or other action camera instead of a dash cam. You will get much better image quality than any dash cam available today. You could then have a dashcam recording when you are driving, and use clips from that to demonstrate the points you are teaching, assuming that the driving behavior around you is demonstrating what you want it to. Hope this helps

Does the gps on dash cams ever interfere with google maps in your car?

I have not come across any issues. The Garmin dash cam is a GPS receiver, not transmitter, so it should not impact Google Maps, Apple CarPlay or other navigation software running in the car.

Yes you can - that is one of the conclusions in this video. The only feature you will miss is the GPS to record location and speed on the video. The larger Garmin dash cams have GPS, including the 67W. The Mini 2 does not. If you don’t want GPS then two Mini 2 dash cams are a good choice.

Good choice. Activate audio for one of them only. Link them both to the Garmin Drive App. Use the app to line the view of the cameras up (mini 2 doesn’t have a rear screen). If you are concerned about keeping records of audio in your car then go for smaller memory cards, so they self delete more frequently.

@@ThisIsJulianC Questions if you can be so kind to answer. 1. Size of microsd card you suggest? I was going to get 128GB Samsung Pro Endurance cards. 2. Rear view camera install. I am having Best Buy install the cameras. I have a fairly new 23 Honda Accord Hybrid and wondering about the install. How will they do it for the rear? I am trying to avoid tear down less as possible for install. I would hate to have rattles or something broken. 3. With the cameras linked together, if I save an incident with from front camera. Will it save from back as well at same time? I am hoping by buying the same 2 cameras everything will work good together. 🤷‍♂️ 4. If you suggest changing front camera to the one you have 67w, worth it? I think you said if you could do it again, you would have got two mini 2’s instead?!?!

@@brenttitus2134 The larger the Micro SD card, the longer you will be able to keep recordings, the cameras will overwrite the oldest footage when the card gets full. I use small cards (32GB) as I am recording audio and I prefer that any audio recordings are not retained any longer than necessary. I can't speak specifically to a Honda install, I used the Garmin Parking Guard cable for the front 67W and the included USB cable for the rear mounted Mini 2 in my F150. The rear camera was much simpler to install because of the USB cable but it does mean I have a USB cable plugged in to the USB port in my center console. I tucked the cable around the door seal and then under the rear floor mat before it gets to the center console. If you have both cameras registered in the Garmin Drive app it is possible to download a clip with both views at the same time, in a picture-in-picture format. How to do that is too long for this reply but Garmin do have clear instructions online. I like having GPS so right now, I would likely get the same camera choices if I had to replace them today. Mini 2 does not have GPS, but if I have 67W up front capturing the GPS data I am OK using the Mini 2 for the rear view (Don't need the GPS data on both cameras). Most people prefer not to have the GPS data as it will document your own speed as an overlay on the video recordings which is why a Mini 2 both front and rear is still my recommended choice. Hope this helps.

@@ThisIsJulianC I was having trouble getting the live view working on the mini 2. So annoying! I ended up keeping the mini 2 for the rear and exchanging front mini 2 for a 47. Turned off gps etc with just date and time showing. Also found out mini 2 can track gps if you leave Garmin app open. Ended up with 128gb cards. I won’t be recording audio accept when I am driving alone. Thanks for the tips and input!

GPS on a dash cam gives you data overlays on the video of location, time, date and the speed you were driving at. All useful data if you need the footage for a crash investigation.
