Thanks for laying it out, neither discouraging nor encouraging people to either stay where they are or come down without first assessing what may be lost or gained by their decision. The fast, drive through, immediate gratification ( non) culture has impaired peoples ability to think things through & then acting instead of merely reacting, especially under stress !

I can really relate to what you’re saying. I left Philly at 18y.o. And moved to L.A. on my own and most of my close friends were Mexican. Now, that I’ve recently retired I’m ready to fulfill my dream of moving to Mexico. I can speak enough Spanish to exist very well, and what I don’t know I can pick up when I get there. Hopefully we’ll meet someday because I’m looking at Merida or Mazatlan. Thank you so much for this video!

Greetings I have left Oaxaca and I am in Merida Yucatan and I love it it is a lot hotter here but it is amazing I'm staying at a hotsel and I ran into a he's a Mexican and American guy and he loves you too we were talking about you and how much we love this show but you were right you all need to get your butt on over here to Merida Yucatan Mexico it is the safest place and the cheapest. And the president they have the Moreno party is doing such a great job

Jose, I speak, read, and write spanish. I will be retiring soon. I am an American/Mexican citizen. I want to retire in Mexico but want to know where my money will go further for me. I will have 130 k for buying a home and 1000 a month pension. Is this doable ?????

That's awesome! Congratulations! Thats a complicated question. Think if I were to ask you the same thing about moving to the USA. All I can say is that Mexico has tons of options! It is a huge country and you will be extremely surprised once you start exploring it more. Thanks for the informative video Jose! Im definitely thinking of just buying a house cash in Mexico when I get older. Right now th3 neighborhood (Coyoacán) is about 900,000ish pesos for the most affordable option. Going to be visiting CDMX for a second time this year for Thanksgiving! Can't wait

¿Que tal? I just got done listening to Dueto dos Rosa's. If you love the old traditional canciones y corridos, check out their channel. Now about jumping off of North America, I'm just waiting until I get my home sold. I was hoping to be in Tefé Brazil by now. Learning Portuguese has been fun so far. It would be super easy to head do to Mexico first. All I'd have to do is make a phone call or two, and I'd have a place to go and be among friends at their ranch. They'd be thrilled to have me there to put shoes on their horses 😂.

If I can do It I'm sure you all can, I arrived as a tourist in 2016 and am now a citizen, I'm conservative, low in openess to experience and somewhat neurotic, Adapting to new environments is particularly difficult for someone of my character so you'll all have no issue.

i finally made it out here to Merida and im loving it already bro! still havent found green yet but im also enjoying this transition and this airbnb is a old married couple and they are sweet and funny and loving. it made the transition easier. im not even sure what neighborhood im in but its still beautiful and peacful haha

As Mexican , I personally wouldn’t go to live to that neighborhood , it all depends on your budget and as you pointed out in one video , if you wanna/can live in a more up scaled neighborhood and regarding handymen here of course you can get professional handymen or constructors but as you say they will charge you as professionals . Depending on your needs and home, there are some repairs or works that simple don’t need HQ professionals , and some I wouldn’t but use only professionals . But yes in finer neighborhoods you can barely talk , mingle or ask neighbors a favor unless you know them because your kids attend to the same private school or women that formed a group at church etc etc

Hola José. I have a couple of questions if you have time to answer them. First about me, I'm retired, 59 and live on a pension of around $2000 a month. Hablo un poco de español pero no es muy bueno. I am so trying to learn more! I did notice that I could read most of the signs that you passed as you were driving because I am much better at reading and writing than speaking. I live on a houseboat with limited water and electricity, for years, and the nearest store to me is 11 miles away so I have a great understanding of being self-reliant y doing without so many things. Mi favorito thing to do is cook y eat, jajaja. I am very interested en Latin music, dancing y culture as I was born in Espana but I was too young to remember it, dual citizen. My questions are. Is it safe being unarmed there. Are the Policia really strict and in your honest opinion. Do you think someone like me would enjoy living there. I'm just considering options and doing research. Any information would be helpful y gracias. Right now I just drive everyone I know nuts speaking my limited Spanish to them all the time, but my dog is learning, lol

Hey Jose: I am in southern Mexico now for over a year! I was up north for sometime before and for a few years so I got my feet wet. I am old and started my Spanish learning late in life but without it I don’t know how anyone can live here or say they have been in Mexico even! You got to immerse yourself somehow. Volunteer or whatever. There is an American woman here who asked me for a handout and then a man too! The man is now carrying a bucket, sponges and all for cleaning cars. He is doing like a Mexican has to, looking for a need and filling it. I taught some English but kinda just off and on. There is an older guy I found who has a great house with a patio in front so he has classes there and I would like to do something maybe like that. Well, I am where I am because other than Merida, it is really safe. One problem is it is for at least a half a year a tourist town and gringo prices are all year round and since the pandemic the prices skyrocketed. I would suggest to most everyone not to live in a tourist location only visit spend what money you want with caution and get the hell out to some smaller place that is maybe as safe. Do your homework. I guess that is all for me! Adios4now ❤

I really enjoy your videos, they make me want to visit Merida. I like the ones where you just drive around, showing us what the neighborhoods are like. I would live there but I come from a smaller town in PA. That would be like moving to the big city! And I have vacationed for many years in Puerto Morelos, where the beach is no more than a block away, so that would be another problem for me. Keep doing you!

I really appreciate your videos I live in San Diego and have stayed in places like Tijuana , Rosarito, Ensenada and East cape. I speak broken but understandable Spanish I think that will help me be part of the neighborhood I move to . I am planning to move to Rosarito next year I choose there because I really like the year round weather there and off the main streets it has a small community feel which I really like being Italian similar culture family , friends and food lol. I do plan on renting short term there like you were saying to see if I really making the right move. I have joined some sites with expats in Rosarito where I can ask about life there . I onced asked What is your biggest regret about moving there the #1 answer I got was that they did not do it sooner lol. I look forward to looking at your the other videos on your channel. Keep up the great work.

Wassup J, is there any other way to prove you visited Mexico in 2022 without a stamped passport? Just found out that my passport was not stamped. That messes up my temp-residency dang!

If and when you filled out an FMM when you came here, they should have a record of that FMM whether they stamped your passport or not. Did you you turn in your FMM when you left? That's important too, otherwise it could look to them like you never left and where staying here illegally. Buena suerte!
