Hey! Guess what. You're Awesome and thanks for watching. I promise this is the best DND tutorial based on a 30 year old Jeff Foxworthy joke you'll ever see. Stick around for more and vote in the comments for which subclass you'd like to next.
Did I use this video as an excuse to re watch The Drunken Master? Yes absolutely I did, the movie is fantastic. If you've never seen it you gotta go do that. Jackie Chan is the GOAT

Fun fact: The rules never state that you have to actually get drunk to use Drunken Master Features.

While watching this, I was actually imagining a party going the entire campaign with a drunken master, getting drunk off the booze this guy makes and carries with him all the time, and loving their drunken idiot. Only to find out its non alcoholic and he's been duping them all the whole time thanks to his old friend Pavlov.

@@demonkingsparda Maybe someone finds the mechanics of the class appealing, but doesn't like alcohol or actual drunk people? There's many possible reasons why someone might want to play this without any actual alcohol. The reply preceding yours makes a good point, for one.

Guys, it literally says you mimic the unpredictability of drunks, not that you get drunk. hell it even says you are extremely well coordinated and all moves are planned out carefully
I played a drunken master monk. He was an accidental folk hero, he became so plastered he saved a public official from being executed and had zero memory of the event.

Ah, Drunken Master. The class that decides that chronic alcoholism shouldn't be crippling for just the drinker.
Always kinda wanted to play a warforged drunken master. Yes, it's just Bender from Futurama.
Man just snuck in a twelve year old reference to a cartoon regarding the fact that fish do in fact fuck in water and I'm HERE for it

I mean I'm old now... but is that season really 12 years old....? God damn!
There is one thing that would make Drunken Master a lot more flavorful (and somewhat more powerful, though not overwhelmingly so): proficiency with improvised weapons which count as monk weapons for you.
@aaronhumphrey2009
9 ай бұрын
BG3 : 'Tavern Brawler' feat solves that little problem. ANYTHING is a weapon in your hands..or feet.. Nothing like smashing a beer mug over some clods head - for 20 DMG !😂
9 ай бұрын
@@aaronhumphrey2009 That feat exists in base 5e too. The problem is that the monk's dedicated weapon feat takes time to set up (it only works once per rest) and a monk can only have one dedicated weapon at a time. So a drunken master with this feat wouldn't be able to use the bar furniture with their dexterity and would only deal the improvised weapon's damage dice instead of their martial arts dice.
@simonrief1013
5 ай бұрын
Really sad that you can't use the furniture. As a compromise I would suggest a pumpkin bottle as his monk weapon. It has the classical drunken master flavour and has some utility. Spilling the spirit to make the floor slippery, drink it for style or spit it in the face of an enemy for distraction. I know it is not really what you wanted but I think this weapon could support the style of random combat of this subclass

@Don't improvised weapons count as simple weapons? And I'm pretty sure that all simple weapons can be monk weapons.
In my last campaign I played as Bruz, the Goblin Drunken Master + Cleric multiclass. Raised by a dwarf that worshiped Hanseath, their character goal was to work as a deckhand for pirates to eventually save up enough gold to open up their own brewery: Bruz' Booze.

My first character was a DM Monk, his name was Roshi and oh boy I tell you what the weird shit he got himself into still have impacted the table. To just let you in the little bit of maddness and just absolute absurdity that he willingly threw himself into is as follows •Suplexing an Adult Black Dragon •Ugly Bumping with two goddesses and then after being forced to become the champion of one he used the fates card he drew a session before and noped himself out of it. Eventually settling down with a mortal woman. •Sleeping with a Margrave’s Daughter •Fought a Noble Djinn by himself in Mortal Kombat •Jumped off a 300ft Beanstalk and survived the fall •Opened a Tavern and started his own Ale •Gained the title of Thunderfist after brawling all of the taverns and underground fighting rings in the city and with the help of the Wizard and Rogue they made his fists have the clap of Thunder. Over all, I’m really still trying to make a character that has not only done as much but has left such a significant impact on myself/the table I’m at. I was 15 at the time and now I’m in my mid 20s and although I don’t align with who Roshi is as a person his impact that he left on future events has a special place in my heart. That being said, if you are going to play a Drunkenmaster I would highly recommend multiclassing out of it at level 6 or 9 into something else, I would recommend the Manoeuvre feat for the BM and you could possibly go Cleric as well. I unfortunately had things like Blood Hunter and Paladin Multiclassed at 2 points and both are a strange and constantly getting changed around lore/mechanically and it just doesn’t work. He now is a PC I’ll never play again as he keeps needing to get reworked but I really hope you enjoy this very flavourful and fun subclass.
The drunken master needs an ability like blurr to really make it perfect and honestly regain ki by drinking alcohol and add those 2 things and bamb flavor and utility perfect.
I love that this channel is growing so well. It's personally my favorite.

I agree. I first found the Gloomstalker video and before the Drakewarden video came out I binge watched all of his videos. The Drakewarden video is my favorite.
Great video dude. Absolutely love all the work you put into these. The “fish f*ck in it” reference was *chef’s kiss*
Through the whole vid, I was LMAO. The jokes were great, the timing was perfect and frankly the info makes me want to play this with your multiclassing suggestion. The idea of kicking butt while knocking’em back sounds like a hoot. Educational and hilarious, perfect combo move. Thank you 🙏.❤❤❤
I agree big time that Drunken Master is kind of a miss. Two of its abilities are way too dependent on fighting multiple enemies in close quarters, which is a situation you don’t want to get into in the first place as a Monk because of your d8 hit points and middling AC. Here’s some improvements I’d make. Tipsy Sway (on top of what it already gives you): When a creature makes a melee attack against you, you can spend 1 ki point as a reaction to impose disadvantage on the creature’s attack rolls against you until the start of your next turn. Intoxicated Frenzy: You’ve learned to hit your enemies almost as hard as you hit the bottle and turn imminent failures into successes. When you roll a 1 with your Martial Arts die, you can spend 2 ki points to turn it into a 10.
One of my players is using Drunken Master but they're a tabaxi so instead of drinks they use catnip. So now we call it Way of the Catnip Master
keep growing friend. i love this channel

I was going to back Curse of the Usurper. Was waiting to see who's link to use. Definitely using yours. I love the content and wish to see you succeed 🤘
I plan on playing tortle drunken master/samurai fight in a campaign. So ill basically be a drunk ninja turtle.
My 3 kids and I are pretty new to DnD. We don't get a lot of time to play full campaigns. So I challenged them to a Battle Royale. We each get to make a lvl 20 character. My wife will make the arena. I'm doing a Hill Dwarf Drunken Master Monk. Came here for some insight, and was not disappointed!
Character concept I have in my back-pocket: Satyr with the charlatan background. Drunken master monk + college of lore bard. His fighting style is a raucous dance, head-butting and whalloping foes with his quarterstaff while firing off cutting insults at opponents as he prances away. Take the crusher feat. Plays the panflute (naturally), but also the udu (that be also brews in).
Thanks for the content.
Anybody can catch a bullet, Once.
The Mobile Feat is a really good synergy for this subclass, allows you to bounce around like You're downing monsters instead of budweisers
Oh hell yeah we’re going full Jackie Chan
It's the cool aunt of Monk
You might be a Disco elysium
I really liked this video. I never played Drunken Master because of that B minus though. Maybe there are some homebrews to help fix it up... I dunno! But it's so cool thematically.
My take of drunken master is big guy who clean the floors (with big and painfull broom) and has advantage in acting and performance and does not like to start rights, but he definitely ends them in style! 😂 I have had a plast with this fellow. He may not be themmost effective build, but it is fun to play!
One change I'd make is that at higher levels your flurry of blows movement bonus increases in line with your unarmoured movement improvements, meaning you can move farther and go from brawl to brawl easier
Really recommend a dip into Barbarian for a Drunken Master. One of the weaknesses of the subclass is that there is a lot of emphasis on being near a bunch of enemies, and Monk just doesn't have the HP to do that consistently. A dip into Barbarian tho, and you're too drunk to feel the blows, so you'll keep fighting even after you've blacked out.
I have a strange urge to multiclass a drunken master and bloodhunter now to drink myself into turning into a freaking wearwolf that is equally thisty for blood and booze.
I just found your channel and I absolutely love your content
I knew this one would be good. LOL
There were so many times in this video where I had to rewind to catch what the ability did, because I was too distracted by the incredible fight choreography
Jackie Chan is the patron Bodhisattva of this subclass.
Warforged Drunken master who almost paradoxically couldn't seem to get drunk. His name was Tastélin Fads-Tehíc. The Last name was just a funny little anagram of Shit-faced and the last part is intentionally slurred into a hiccup as you say it.
My DMM was raised in a tavern and learned to feign drunkenness, amusing patrons and earning a bit of copper spoofing the regulars or local elites. (bg involved the tavern being burnt down and turning those early experiences into a combat style so they could get revenge)
Clearly, this is the subclass of a “Chef”, a Sailor who’s known Harbor to Harbor for making the best rum on the sea!
DnD forgot to give the drunken master the ability to make an alcohol flame attack
I reskinned my Dwarven Fighter/Drunken Master Monk into an axe-throwing Berserker with a skill for making psychedelic war brews and temp tattoos (woad). He is fun (bonus points for Dwarven Fortitude feat + Patient Defense)
I use the DM in my Tsuyu Asui build along side gloomstalker ranger.
"Shut up I can fight! I'm not as think as you drunk I am!"
the funniest race to play as a drunk master would be a halfling or a gnome the best would be.....im not sure to be honest lolz but i love this video
As germans, we have been trained in the ways of drunky punchy for 7 more years
I played a goblin DM and as weak as levels 1-4 were, level 7 was an absolute blast with tipsy sway. My favorite ability from this and most monk classes

So this week myself and a couple of my friends are doing a one-shot, so i decided im going to play a drunken master female satyr. Shes basically going to be white girl wasted at all times, and we all know to never mess with a white girl when shes wasted on whiteclaws.
The capstone Drunken Master ability should be puking, and making an AoE worth 1d10 to 3d10, depending on how much Ki you put into it.
_Far less_ Jackie Chan footage than I anticipated...
This Monk does not need Mobile feat that much. Just imagine that.

I am shocked he didn’t include any Demoman clips
Oathbreaker Paladin pls
All hail the algorithm
I liked the abilities of the 3.5 drunken master much better. They got rid on all of their skills, basically, except for the drunken rage.
Can you please do armorer artificer?
Can you do unarmed fighter?
when reading up the drunken master it truly feels like there was supposed to be more skills added to this subclass. they should of really incorporated one or two more optional drunk joke abilities that the player can choose from ex. "drunken rage", a monk rage like barbarians, not as strong though. "Holy Spirits" you feel closer with your inner spirit, Ki max increase , "liquid courage" nothing truly scares you, or is that the booze talking? you gain advantage against fears. "booze snooze" who needs a bed to sleep to get a good nights rest, besides the floor hasnt hurt you yet. but i guess whoever designed DM was just too drunk to finish it.
Hot take: If you don't burn your first feat on Tavern Brawler, you don't deserve to call yourself a Drunken Master

I personally think that the monk levels 18-20 are kinda bad. However, mixing 17 levels of drunken monk with 3 levels of swashbuckler rogue is goofy
If you don't wanna deal with Monk's nonsense. Just Multiclass Fighter and Barbarian. (Don't forget unarmed fighting) Make STR and CHA your highest, Go with Halfling or Dwarf for resistance to poison (This technically makes it harder to get drunk). And pick the entertainer background, you can say you're a barkeep who studies in the monastery bellow. Done!
