Two things I have learned about carbon fiber this year... 1: You can make some really incredible guitars with it. 2: You can make some really terrible submersibles with it.

The guitars are just a terrible although they won't kill you. Carbon Fiber is great for many things..........guitars are NOT one of them. There is a very distinct reason why carbon fiber is not popular amongst KNOWLEDGEABLE musicians. Turns out resonance from wood is great.

@@benburnett8109 Wood is SO last century! The best selling point for wood is that it's so inconsistent! LOL! You always have dead spots on your fretboard on a wood neck due to the varying density of wood so each guitar has it's sweet spots and dead spots so you keep buying more, LOL! Carbon fiber OTOH is very consistent and predictable from one guitar to the next which gets a little boring since all the notes ring out consistently and equally well!

I have been playing guitar for over 20 years, I started learning to play mandolin around the same time and then my mandolin had an accident caused by my small brother being an assclown. I picked Mandolin back up probably ehhh six or seven years ago. Despite all of the electric guitars I own and the resonator that I have, I find myself playing my mandolin almost every day. I really wish that there were more options in the mandolin family that weren't stupidly expensive (shout out to Eastman for making real quality less expensive options my MD-305 is amazing) and that there were more solid body electronics for mandolin through mandobass. If you want challenge yourself pickup an inexpensive mandolin and learn some things on it. The difference in scale length, tunings, etc really made me a better guitarist musician and playing guitar made me a better mandolinist.

It sounds good, yeah. It's pretty loud compared to most Weissenborns, though it won't reach dobro volume levels. A lot of bottom end to it, and different right hand positions get you a lot of tones. Sounds good plugged in (I have a magnetic and a piezo pickup) The bonus of the carbon fibre build is that you can put it in tunings that would most likely reduce a conventional Weissenborn to splinters. Lap steels don't really vary much in playability in my experience - as long as the fret markers are in the right place and the string spacing is sensible they're all a much of a muchness. This is a big instrument and that took a little bit of getting used to, but it has a neat 24 fret range which makes playing high up (and false harmonics) a lot more straightforward than on a 21/22 fret instrument - @@benburnett8109

I honestly didn't think so. They're certainly 'innovative', they do look cool and I totally get the practicality of carbon, the stability etc. But ... they just don't sound like wood, I mean they aren't wood of course, but every one he played sounded like what it is - carbon. For me they seem rather quiet, a bit toppy with little bottom end response, and often a bit abrasive, where as I like a smoother fuller sound. I thought the big 5 string bass might knock it out the park, but that one sounded wallowy and floppy and had no definition at all. I love the way they look, and I'd love the stability, but for me the bottom line is 'do they sound great', and I just didn't think so. Maybe it'd be different in the room ? But I'll never know because there's no way I can make it over to Ireland to find out. Think I'll be sticking to good old wood 🎸

Nice to see LDH actually playing guitar instead of just talking about guitar and guitar related drama.

Call me crazy but I’m of the mind the electric guitar was perfected by 1960. Maybe five or six different models cover all the bases you’d ever need. Strat, tele, 335, Les Paul, SG, Precision Bass. I think the Jazzmaster came out after ‘60, but you can toss that into my list as an asterisk model.

My personal opinion is that piezo pickups should go extinct. They do have a unique sound and usable in very distinct scenarios but they make all guitars sound the same and absolutely worse than if you heard it in the room. Some of those guitars seem spoiled by sounding like strictly piezo

what kind of tone carbon have they used to make the guitars? Joking aside, maybe it's me, but i have the feeling that the video is edited brilliants to hide the lack of sustain on an instrument made from carbon. There's a reason instruments are made from wood and not metal, glass or in this case - carbon. Perfect balance of price, availability, sustain, tone etc.

KDH I would be delighted not to see that guitar, its horrible, Steve Vai would be mortified to be seen playing that thing and he isnt fussy.

The Reason you won't see any of these guitars in a Music Store is BECAUSE THEY DON'T SELL AND ARE OVERPRICED.

I feel like I’ll definitely see one of these pop up at a Sam Ash/Guitar Center used section. Guys love to buy stuff they can’t afford and end up selling it.
