For boomers and senior citizens, the current market and economy are unnecessarily harder. I'm used to simply purchasing and holding assets, which doesn't seem applicable to the current volatile market, and inflation is catching up with my portfolio. My biggest concern is whether I'll survive after retirement.

The average person doesn't "do well"......in this almost 77 year old's opinion is because they never learned "the value of a buck." Too many millions of Americans (I'll stick to the US) use credit cards without any comprehension of their ramifications. How many Americans "pay off" their credit card on a monthly basis? How many people SAVE money? How many invest their money in e.g. real estate? ~ Too many "life/economically challenged" adults didn't create a "life plan" in their early life. I did & retired at 52. ~~~ Needless to say Bidenomomics is the worse inflation since Carter's 9.9% forty plus years ago.

You never seen kids taught about the history of the economy, money or currency in public schools or even in colleges. And thats not by accident. The reason I’ve done well was because I did study the economy and knew the value of the buck would continue to go down it’s the nature of fiat. Hen I taught my kids and grand kids. And they all do very well. And this will get much worse before it gets better.

I don't think we are going to survive until November. The Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s Center for Microeconomic Data today issued its Quarterly Report on Household Debt and Credit. The report shows total household debt increased by $212 billion (1.2%) in the fourth quarter of 2023, to $17.50 trillion. Credit card balances increased by $50 billion to $1.13 trillion. Auto loan balances rose by $12 billion, continuing the upward trajectory seen since 2020, and now stand at $1.61 trillion. U.S. properties with a foreclosure filing during the first quarter of 2024, up 3 percent from the previous quarter. Bankruptcy filings rose 16 percent during the 12-month period ending March 31, 2024. Interest on unpaid balance of credit card debt is approaching 18%.
