It's actually a permaban - 1/18/2038 is the furthest in the future you can count if you represent a date with a 32-bit number of seconds since 1970 (many programs still do).

@@wladynoszhighlights5989 anyone but a product manager at Valve is only going to be able to speculate - but my guess is that it's just extremely low-value to customize the UX for a tiny fraction of users who are prohibited from ever playing your game again. It takes effort to write the code that detects a ban date of UINT_MAX and displays custom text, that text needs to be localized for all the languages DotA2 offers, etc. If I were the PM on the DotA2 client, I wouldn't bother having the team change it - not worth it.

He deserves a punishment. Whether a perma ban is the answer, that's up for debate.

Imagine implementing a literal "Social Credit Score" into your game. Bad idea, plus any pro player is going to end up stomping in matchmaking, which means they get reported. If he actually got permabanned because his in-game social credit score got too low, then that is beyond absurd, it is dystopian and furthermore ignorant to the issues the best players will face. Finally, if this reads as a "VAC" ban and not a game ban, then what is even going on anymore?

I think it's permaban, they will extend it once they/servers reach that date (unix max time is January 19, 2038, 03:14:07). For more info you can google year 2038 problem

The 2038 is just a placeholder. Steam/Valve uses a 32 bit system that caps at 2038. The ban he has is permanent.

Just play 2 games of dota yesterday after 4-5 years. I was surprised at how everybody was trying their best actually. There were still talking going on though but at least no one abandoned or ran down mid. It was nice.

at this point dota is at its peak of fun and non toxcity because the behaviour score system is working so great if u have full score. you 99% get non toxic mates who are willing ot play the game. Also all the changes which were made to change the game in the last years make every role in the game fun to play 1-5 it doesnt matter its not like only core role is enjoyable like 6-7 years ago.

Funny thing is the ban will still trigger regardless of if the users opens the gift or not. Not opening it just causes the ban to show up at a later point in time. The gift just triggers the ban early. Though players who play fair will get some goodies from the gift, only rule breakers get the coal.

Valve make it slightly harder to get smurf accounts into normal player pool, but it is still very easy (add money) and you often ends up with smurf v smurf games. Give it time and they will come crawling back. Valve is making their methods of detection very obvious

He's not even really toxic in games. He just gets reported all the time because he's Mason. Some games ofc he's toxic (like most players in the community) but the vast majority of games he's not even been talking to his team because he . He's basically been perma-muted since day 1 of the behavior score update and he keeps getting reported for being toxic. Ban was probably for using a behavior score boosting service, but the system is being abused against him so his use of it makes sense imo.

If you have beh and com score less than 9-10k valve take 300 score for 1 word, and im playing every game with at least 1 cd even if i lose but it takes somehow behaviour score too

Bro in the past it was much easier to raise behavior score because reports had cd. Now everyone (enemies, allies) sends you 5 report for anything (bad spellcasting, stomping, outplaying, dying while warding, etc)
