True, however I prefer to wash them all in bulk once in a while instead of washing the few brushes constantly. I especially run out of clean eye brushes way too often so I have been stocking up on them. But it does not take me that much time to clean those smaller brushes, I just grab multiple at the time when I wash them, it does not make that huge of a difference overall.

I kept putting off washing my makeup brushes recently because I remembered it as being this huge chore that took me ages. However when I finally did it it barely took me any time at all. I was remembering how long it took when I had one of those big brush sets and had forgotten how much faster it would be now that I have narrowed down my brushes to only the essentials. I now just have a foundation brush, blush brush, bigger fluffy bronzer brush, contour brush, small powder brush (I don't use much powder so only need a small brush), eyeshadow brush for placing product, fluffy eyeshadow blender brush, and thin liner brush that can be used for both brows and eyeshadow as liner. Eight brushes does not take my long to wash at all and it means I can grab all of my brushes and throw them in a makeup bag when I travel, instead of having to think about it.

I've noticed that the makeup pendulum has swung towards natural and minimalist. I mean for awhile everyone was following the super heavy draggy/ Kardashian makeup, but now it's trendy to use the "no makeup" makeup look. I do draggy makeup when I'm doing drag, but not for an every day thing. It's just funny how beauty trends seem to swing from one extreme to another.

The amount of makeup I DONT need is ridiculous lol. Also, popular makeup brands only know how to make sub-par bronzer palettes, never a good contour palette. It’s already good enough if they can make a few good individual contour shades.

  • @yennycho8226

I totally agree! I will not buy a palette unless I will use 90% of the colours like the elf contour palette I used all but the bronzer shade. I find it kinda dumb that brands make a huge palette of light to deep shades (bronzer, blush and highlighter palettes) when you're only going to use 1 or two of the shades? Great for makeup artists tho

  • @ftcpans

    @ftcpans

    3 жыл бұрын

@@yennycho8226 if you’re a makeup artist I’d recommend a contour palette from an indie brand that has grey and taupe shades. That way you can mix them with the skin tone powders for clients of all skin tones. If you want something for yourself, individual products are truly better when it comes to highlighters, bronzers, and contours, unless you find a palette where you can use most of the things. It’s good that the elf palette works for you, even I can use 3 out of the 4 so for the price it’s the best face palette among mainstream brands for me

Agree. Like Alexandra Anele, I'm Eastern Euro--very fair and olive--near impossible to find drugstore contour that works, especially on the US market. Every drugstore contour I've ever purchased I end up using as extra-large-panned transition shadows ;) the only drugstore contour I've ever found that works for me is the five-pan Beauty Creations contour palette--there are two shades in it that work great for fair olives. More taupe-y rather than tan; not too warm. Easy to work with.

  • @TheSwauzz

@@ggeemmiinnii Agreeeee! I don't think I lean olive, but I swear sometimes I'm yellow, sometimes I'm pink and sometimes I'm neutral so it's honestly impossible for me. I also don't use bronzer because I'm just sooo fucking pale, it always looks unnatural lol.. Like I'm really not fooling anyone into thinking I'm sunkissed, sorry. I've just embraced blush and being pale! There's only one item I found that worked alright and it was a taupe-y shade from Fenty's cream sticks, which obviously isn't drugstore. I don't even bother contouring anymore though. It's not worth the headache or time for me.

But from a business perspective wouldn't they want to focus on gaining a customer's trust by giving them appropriate and genuine advice? That's what keeps people coming back, instead of coming in once and buying a full face of expensive products that aren't what they want before switching stores. Plus the more people come in for stuff, the more chance there is that they'll impulse buy new releases as they see them.

Uuuurghhh me too. Tho I don't even have the benefit of beautifully shaped, upturned and dark Asian eyes and my lashes are just a disaster - short, stumpy, three-hours-curling falls out in three seconds and every mascara ends up looking like the dreaded dead spider splat. I can't wear falsies tho, they set off a weird neuro oddity I have. But if you want a compromise, I find just sticking a couple of singles (dunno what they're called. They're just two or three hairs) at the outer part of my eye creates enough of an illusion without all the aggro of full falsies. But I feel your pain in this - it's not fair, reeeeeeee!

When I was stripping and needed my full-glam makeup to last like 9 hours of sweating, talking, laughing, drinking, and eating (but also it only needs to do so in dim lighting) it was a must-have and I always noticed when I didn't use it, but day to day I rarely felt the need for it. And same with falsies, I only use them in the club because otherwise my natural eyelashes will vanish in the club lights lmao.

I started using an actual grey eyeshadow for contour a few months ago after another video of yours in which you recommended it. It was transforming. I just bought, on sale that was the only reason, a KVD grey cream contour and it's amazing. The tiniest amount is great and it's easy to warm up if I need to. It does create a shadow and not just another stripe on the face.

I use black foundation mixer pigment to make my own exact shade of contour with my foundation or concealer, if anyone prefers cream/liquid over powder. It's awful for what it's meant for, which is darkening a foundation that's too light (just turns it ashy, not the right way to darken foundation) but makes the EXACT match for your skin. Pigment mixers are so useful, you can make your own color correctors too (not to mention lighten, cool, or warm up mismatched foundation as it's supposed to be used.) Great ways to use up extra foundations and concealers you just don't care for.

I think that's the point. Contour and bronzer are for me at least how I add depth back to my face when foundation flattens it. I literally never wore foundation because I hated how unnatural it made my face look until I found contour. I realized I needed to add structure back that was lost with the foundation. I assume you don't have the same issue because your face is already structured even with foundation that just a little blush adds what's needed. I remember watching this streamer Valkyrae's makeup routine which was very simple and nothing you would see from a beauty guru. All she did was put on foundation and blush for her complexion and it looked perfect because she already has a very structured face. My point is that contour and bronzer aren't necessities. It is for me because my face is a little too round for it the structure to show through the foundation, but if you have that already its not only unnecessary but will probably look worse.

Go for micellar water with reusable microfiber pads if you want a good clean feeling. No matter how a makeup wipe is formulated, it's irritable to the skin and it's just simply not as effective as other ways of cleaning so you end up wiping way more than you need to, causing more fine lines. I prefer to cleanse with a balm in the shower for heavy makeup days before my regular cleanser. For light makeup days (or even no makeup days), I go with the micellar water and cleanser.

I love there texture 117 lashes, but they always would lift in the corner, or I'd have a hard time applying them. (Or any lashes really). I highly recommend the eyelure pre-glued lashes to anyone else struggling. You literally just set them in place, and press gently along the base . Voila! (Not sponsored, lol)

Hey Robert! I would love to see a video about different styles of eyeshadow, based on eye shape and size. I know there are loads of different creative looks with eyeshadow, but not all of them are flattering on my eyes. I would love to hear your perspective on this!

„Is it nice to have loads of brushes? Yes. Is it nice to clean them all? Not really” that resonated with me even more since I just spent over an hour cleaning my brushes 😂

Absolutely Robert, you are telling everyone to do what we did before makeup became an internet thing. We used to use ashy shades of eyeshadow to contour and didnt use colour correctors other than yellow toned concealers and primers simply didnt exist! I use most of my makeup brushes for weathering miniatures in dioramas I am making because they work really well with chalk pastels! lol!

I'm so glad you said about not needing false eyelashes! I do like them but I literally cannot apply them on my eye and I've watched your video where you show how to apply them correctly. I just get so frustrated applying them and I see other people's looks and always felt I needed them but actually my eyelashes aren't too bad on their own 😊

Your closed captions are amazing!! Thank you so much for them. I find a lot of people will, when they go off on rambling tangents, just sort of sum up the point they're making in the cc but yours just follow exactly what you're saying and that's really really nice. To be honest I have stopped wearing foundation a lot of the time. Maybe its covid-laziness maybe it's maybeline lol but i have pretty smooth skin and a natural celtic flush so I just pop a bit of highlight on and call my skin done.

I’m the same but I realize I only use the same 2 palettes . Yet I had over 100, yes 100. I went through everything I had and did an ig story sale. Got rid of lots of unused or swatched makeup and made a few hundred in the process . Whitney Hedrick on KZread has a great video on condensing your makeup to what you actually use .

I would love to see an "essentials for your makeup bag" video! Like: here's the basics that you can do anything with, perfect for travel (stop right there) or overnight at the beau's. I have my key pieces in my purse at all times "just in case" ...(tweezers, brow stuff, powder foundation, retractable powder brush w/ lid, concealer, blush, lip stuff, even a foundation sample in my shade, mini mascara)

I've started watching your videos a few months ago and you've helped me so much! Before your videos I used to do my makeup and feel like something wasn't right but I couldn't put my finger on it. I used to buy products thinking they were right for me (like a warm contour!), partly due to misinformation (beauty gurus on youtube and instagram) and partly due to not finding people that actually explained these stuff and corrected my bad habits. Now I feel like even though I my makeup isn't perfect, it is soooo much better (and sometimes I catch myself actually understanding why I'm doing something instead of just "automaticlly" doing it god knows why) and I'm so thankful to you
