    This is a nice break from multiple flash setups and being creative with available light. I do get over complicated and spend too long procrastinating on approaches at times. Also I have been struggling on direction for product photogaphy as enjoy the challenge of shooting many types of products I like the variety but i wonder if it really is better to pick one area and focus only on that as I would find it hard to pick one - do you have any wisdom or thoughts you would share on this - you seem to have a varied range of products you work with.

  • @botvidsson

    @botvidsson

    Жыл бұрын

    The only reason is that I need a frame to stick the diffusion on. The best way would be NOT to have any frame at all... well, sometimes it can be good with a black frame but most of the time I would prefer a clean diffusion "plate" to avoid any dark reflections.

    You follow your "gut", not your "stomach", Martin...but it doesn't really matter. If you say "intuition" then some student from Thailand won't be perplexed momentarily. Mind you, in Thailand they also have their strange ways with gastrointestinal connotations. For instance if a man wants to compliment a woman on how nicely she looks, he may say: "What did you eat today that you look so good?"

    Why do small objects such as watches, only look sharp when you go above f20, where you can even get ears and hair sharp with portraits when you focus on the face? Small objects you focus on the watch, and the strap is out of focus even at f15. But with a model, you focus on the eye at f9 and even eats and hairs are sharper than the strap of the watch does. What's the explanation for this?

  • @AndyMoranPhoto

    @AndyMoranPhoto

    3 жыл бұрын

    The closer you are to your subject, the more shallow your depth of field will be. The farther away your subject is, the larger and more pronounced your depth of field is. It's due to the optics of the glass and how light enters and bounces around within the lens. To counter this issue, focus stacking is required for watch shots or any macro shot where your subject has depth.

  • @artlover4120

    @@AndyMoranPhoto thank you Andy. by being closer to the subject, do you mean the distance between camera (lens) and subject, or zooming in from a long distance is also considered getting close? - Is focus stacking the only solution to this? - Is there a specific macro lens that was made for this? Where you focus on your small subject and around f9-f10 everything us sharp? Such as a wristband or watch?
