You can't watch this Mario anime
Ойындар
From Mario's long history, there exists one anime featuring Nintendo's character that you CAN'T watch. The video isn't lost - it's actually safely stored in libraries across Japan. But these libraries only lend the Mario anime to people from a specific group. And if you're not in the group, then you can't watch this Mario anime!

That's cell animation for ya, I wouldn't be surprised if the animators didn't have good reference material of how Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Mushroom People/Toads, and the enemies/King Koopa/Bowser looked like in concept art.
I get that copyright laws are more restrictive in Japan than here, but what commercial harm could possibly come from sharing an educational video that they didn't make for profit? Why are they so intent on protecting this one film? There has to be more to the story. They must not have had the rights to animate something that appears in the background of the film, like the logo for a corporation, and they are afraid of lawsuits for the misappropriate use of a registered trademark.

I doubt is was anything like that. It could have just been a condition of using the Nintendo characters that the film would only be seen in Japanese schools, etc., and not distributed outside of Japan. They never could have imagined that people would be able to share videos on the internet when they made the contracts, so there would be no language in the contract to cover this scenario. So people either aren't allowed to share the film or aren't sure if they can and don't want to risk being sued. This kind of thing happens in America, too. It took DECADES for the 1960s Batman series to be released on Blu-Ray because they had to track down all the heirs of the rights holders and work out a deal, since home video wasn't a thing when the show was created. Before this happened, the show could be reran on TV, but they couldn't release it on home video.

Toei really said: *There are no Mario safety cartoons in Ba Sing Se* Reminds me of the story of Izzy's Quest for Olympic Gold, another piece of formerly lost media. For those who don't know, Izzy was the mascot of the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta who made his debut at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. What exactly is Izzy, you might ask...we don't know. He's not an animal, he's not a human figure, nor is he an object. He's...something. His name is actually short for Whatizit. His debut was met with backlash, because you'd think for the CENTENNIAL Olympics, they'd pick a grand mascot...nope. So to counter this backlash, they released a video game (Izzy's Quest for the Olympic Rings on Sega Genesis and SNES) and a cartoon. For the longest time, people joked that Izzy was so laughably bad that his cartoon about his backstory became lost media. That is, until 2020 when the pandemic changed all that. A guy called James was helping his father clean out his garage where he came across a VHS of it.

But I don't know the way things are in Japan. I don't know if that model really works there so I can't argue from that stand point. I can understand that with something involving what maybe multiple parties that need to give permission or would have a right to act in regards to any legal issues, that it might be more trouble then it's worth. Preservation for it's own sake even if it's for a historical record, is a luxury. Hold on, Toei Animation made anime Mario? Now I wish they could've just full send it and made it an actual series.
7:59 i can't be the only one to find the way mario is animated talking funny
Bro the fact that mario is basically teaching kids how to live is crazy
I wonder how hard it would be for a viewer to get a job at one of these libraries, or even just sneak into one of the rooms that they keep these tapes, find it, and upload it sneakily
Fact: there's a couple of characters that Toru Furuya did voice for Pegasus Seiya and Yamcha they're dubbed by Jesus Barrero in the Latin Spanish dubs of those shows, however he didn't voiced Tuxedo Mask but instead he did for Andrew Furuhat, so I guess they didn't match the actors to be equal.
Never expected these kinds of videos from Mario
Kenny Lauderdale is another good channel. He just did a video about film preservation efforts for lost anime that most people have never even heard of. These Mario safety videos seem to be the exception of a film being preserved, unfortunately. Some anime has only survived because people pulled film reels out of the trash when after studios threw them out.
The fact that a guy named Toru Furuya voices the character Amuro Toru in Detective Conan, who is also known as Furuya Rei, is absolutely hilarious to me. There's no way that it wasn't done on purpose; I'll bet that Gosho even had the guy in mind while naming him, because honestly, why else would he have names like that? I know jack all about VAs generally, and I was not expecting this delightful little bit of trivia, but I welcome it all the same.
I would always play with fire when I was younger with friends and we'd get caught numerous times, the thing is I was very very cautious, I was always near a water source and didn't use flammable material like toilet paper or aerosols or any explosive material, just a lighter and a very small pile of leaves and we'd stomp out the fire when we were done
1:25 I just find this audio and video combination funny. "In the late 80's" - where we have computers from the early 2000's (at least 2001 judging by the fact that the computer is running windows xp) And yes I know that's just because he has not found appropriate footage (or just didn't care which is totally fine by me).

Man, the old-timey voice acting is super nostalgic. I remember watching the Anpanman public manners and safety video as a kid. For real though, Japan's strict copyright and unwillingness to share their media internationally is frustrating. I don't think they understand how fascinating or fun their shows/movies/music are, and it's such a shame that most of them are unavailable to people living outside of Japan. There are so many ads saying "PWEEEAAASE don't illegally upload our shows online!!!" when they could just, y'know, legally stream it.
Im not saying be gay do crime, but im not NOT saying be gay do crime
Interesting to see Bowser being green in this anime like the western counterpart, King Koopa from SMBSS. Coincidence or not both film even released first at the same year, 1989

I guess I can only hope they've been able to preserve it digitally in some form? and overall are we really missing that much? there's alawys that full-length anime movie I heard was getting a remastered redub.
The thumbnail made me think this video was a meme, honestly this is better
Hopefully a gigaleak will happen someday, we might even get to see Mario Traffic Safety in Laserdisc quality! Mario & Luigi being heroes like always.
Staring into Luigi's eyes in the first anime is unsettling because his eyes have no white dot like Mario's.... It's HORRIFYING to me!
