This was mesmerizing! As a surfer myself, who struggles to balance "life" with the desire to be able to surf good waves, the end hit me like a ton of bricks. It's true. You can't buy waves...

Inspiring video. I discovered surfing a couple years ago (34 years old now) and I can’t get enough. I drive 5 hours round trip every weekend to surf and continue to battle with the idea of selling the house and making the move to somewhere closer to the ocean. I have lots of other hobbies (golf, ski, music, tennis, soccer, basketball, etc), but nothing is quite like surfing, and it’s where my heart is. Thank you for making this and giving some of us hope that it is possible to chase your dreams.

Beyond all the technical mastery (which is admittedly important), these films work because the filmmaker is coming from a place of sincerity and honesty. There's so much "look at me" stuff on YT, stuff that neither tells a story nor has much of a purpose at all. It's refreshing to see content created out of passion and curiosity.

Love the relaxed feel and the balance and transitions between interview and b roll 👍

Ahh yes probably my favourite thing you have shot to date man! Bloody beautiful. I guess I am a little biased though as I am also a surfer :). The shots inside the car were stunning especially the ones with the rainy windows and driving at sunset/sunrise. Loved that higher up shot of Sam riding that right hander in the morning light too...stuff of dreams. I also agree and relate to the shark sentiment but hey if you play the game you gotta be willing to pay the price! Bravo!

Loved it! 10/10 I honestly I loved the shot of him getting in the truck early morning. I loved that shot because I could see what you were you doing there with the single street lamp over his head and having the frame of mind that early in the morning to get the shot is something I'm trying to get better at myself. So often when I get home to the edit there are too many shots I wished I had thought to get.

Great docy guys! Loved it, only would just say as a surfer that some longer continous shots of some of the waves would add to it. Love seeing a wave from paddle in to kick out. Also extended version with snowboarding in?! Would love that

That's just amazing. Been looking specifically for high quality BMPCC footage, starting off with Meike lenses and I'm not disappointed. Quite the contrary. If I ever get to film making (for now just passively inhaling knowledge) I'll be sure to reach out to you for some tips! Great job! :)

Finally someone that can tell a good story, and doesn't have to rely on a gimbal for a change. If I see one more gimbal shot I will vomit. Handheld all the way for documentary work and narrative.

oooooooohhhhh mate, that opening shot!!!!! LOVED IT. Great docco, beautiful shots, great story. I love the handheld feeling and the fact that you didn't use a gimbal. The energy of that handheld was pure magic. I just wished you were much tighter on the interview bit or at least with a second camera. But I'm not the filmmaker of this film. Fantastic work mate, really stunning! I'll watch your antarctica one soon.

Thanks so much man, so glad you liked it :) !! Yeah I much prefer actual handheld than gimbal, especially for something like this. I actually did have a second camera with a 75mm equiv, but didn’t end up using as many interview shots as I thought so preferred to use the one :).

@@OfTwoLands for that kind of doc I wouldn't have used the interview bit at all, only the voice over. It makes it a bit more cinematic, otherwise it has a tv feel which is fine but it feels different. In that case is better to have good live moments of the main character doing something and commenting if needed. Fantastic job buddy, make the link private and start sending it to festivals. filmfreeway.com/festivals will help you target for a festival. A lot of free ones around that are very good also. Best of luck

@@OfTwoLands Loving it very easy to use but now need to purchase a calibrated monitor to edit clips for true colours. As I'm only using a 4K TV as a monitor.

If you sold your LUTS for bmpcc 4k,6k cameras, I would buy them in a heartbeat. Your color grading is soooooooooooooooooooooooooo good.

Overall great! Some really, really fantastic shots! I didn't notice any drone footage - was that a specific decision? Were you editing this back in the Alps? Was that weird spending hours looking at footage of the ocean in Australia when you're so far away and in such a different environment?

Thanks man !! I wanted to drone as well but we only had 1.5 days and I was shooting by myself so wasn’t possible to do everything. And yeah actually it was strange but good in a way. Same thing when I was editing Antarctica back in Sydney :).

Hi love you work. I have been contemplating getting the pocket 6k or waiting for gh6 even though they are two different cameras the image quality out of the pocket 6k is amazing. just wanted your thoughts on if it would work for travel videos and food videos thanks.

Thanks very much !! I think both would work, if it is for travel then I would recommend the bmpcc4k instead, slightly smaller/lighter and much cheaper with the same amazing image quality. If all you want to do is video then the bmpccs for sure, but if you need photos too and weather sealing during your travels then the GH might be a better choice :).
