I have recently shot a short film with these so In this video I will talk about my experience with them what I like and don’t like about these lenses and finally whether or not I would recommend them.
I also go over the kits that I used which includes the DJI Focus Pro and Ronin RS4 Pro.
Hopefully you find this video helpful if you are considering these lenses!
Let me know what you think and if you have any questions :)
Cheers,
Flo

Of all the cleaner under $10K a lens cinema glass, this is the look I'm reaching for, DZO finally made my list, exciting times for the budget shooters out there. Thank you for another direct informative video, your reviews are some of the best as you actually shoot with what you review, and your stoic approach reviewing is very refreshing and appreciated.

Great video as always! Thank you very much! I like how you never fail to provide plenty of real life footage filmed in different lighting conditions in your reviews. I never miss any of your videos and try to learn from each one of them. The composition in your videos is always spot on. Are you planning to do a video on composition by any chance? As an amateur videographer, I would find it very helpful and educational. Thanks again for another great video and best of luck with new projects!

So insightful, thanks! If you don’t mind, what are your export settings to avoid banding once uploaded on KZread? H.264 and H.265 still seem to get heavy banding for example in blue skies. No banding/heavy compression on the file itself.

Lovely work, Flo! These are the highest on my list. You and I both rock with ext variable NDs, but I'm very interested in putting this L to PL adapter to the test: MOFAGE POCO Drop-In Filter Lens Mount Adapter Kit (Leica L to PL). It would solve the criticism of no internal NDs in both the Pyxis and the BMCC6K FF. Would be curious to here your thoughts on this.

@OfTwoLands
21 күн бұрын
Thank you!! Unfortunately I don’t have the vespids anymore but I’ve shared my thoughts on both in this video ☺️
Great video, I appreciate knowing how to say their name correctly! I would say what would be my concern, is these not having tapped screw threads on the top and bottom (maybe they do and I didnt see them). Though for a lens thats pulling in this sort of weight you really want to be properly stable and balanced and this would help. While you did a wonderful review and your shots look fantastic you can see the strain in your arm from the photo of you holding the camera and lens! I imagine it would feel like a chore towards the end of the day shooting by your self, and shows these are really not designed for a bmcc 6k - as you allude too! You really want them on a camera with a locking mount and have a crew with you. These really seem like the the lenses for small production companies looking for a solid alternative when renting isnt an option. Or for smaller rental houses for tighter budgets or even film schools looking for something to cover a large format sensor camera such as the Pyxis.
@OfTwoLands
22 күн бұрын
Thanks!! It was definitely a heavy rig and i would have relied on my Easyrig if I wasn't shooting in the middle on a city with expensive gear I don't own haha! That being said I often shoot that way regardless of the kit :). And yes, 100% these are better suited to small crew and larger setups as I mentioned. I still made it work though which is good to know in case you are forced to shoot minimal at some point :).
@heartshapedfilms
21 күн бұрын
Absolutely great that you can shoot this way if needed getting some gorilla type shots where you wanna be stripped down or just to strip the weight for a smaller gimbal set it's great. Honestly this is why I never really understand why people moan about cameras to that end
In recent years the market for 'affordable' cine lenses has grown a lot in terms of quality and these DZOs seem to me to be of good quality and quite versatile. Even the 'Big Boys' seem to have understood that there is a potential market for those who want to buy quality cine lenses at an affordable price: Zeiss has come out with the Nano Prime and it seems that Nikon also wants to enter this market (perhaps with lenses based on the glorious AI-S).

I have a few times, including with the Arles lenses, and no problems at all. I stay at ISO 400 and 1250 when possible but I have shot before at 2500 and 3200 and it was very easy to clean in Davinci. I talk about it in my NYC video breakdown :). I often expose for the brightest point even the rest falls into black.

@@OfTwoLands i’ll go check out that video! thanks!😄
Just curious if you are using the Nisi C5 matte box. I believe it has an 82mm max thread and the Arles lenses are sitting at 86. I was going to try using a step-down ring (86 down to 82) to adapt the lenses but am suspicious this will create a vignette especially on the wider focal lengths. Has this been your experience, or is this something you could possibly confirm?
@OfTwoLands
22 күн бұрын
The NISI C5 has a 95mm diameter same as the outer one on the lenses so that was perfect without adding anything else :)
@mtnfolkmedia
21 күн бұрын
@@OfTwoLands My guy! Thank you for the response. You seem to be one of those rare creators that is actually committed to helping his viewers. The max thread size listed for the C5 must be for it's largest adapter, and not the diameter of the matte box ring itself - Very good to know that opening sits at 95mm! I have found your channel recently and it's been a huge source of inspiration and information. You had a subscriber, but you have now just made a fan. Keep up the good work

@OfTwoLands
22 күн бұрын
Congrats! Super easy to do, all you have to do is unscrew each mount and swap it. I believe they might come with the lenses when you buy them. Takes 2 mins per lens. Only 6-8 little screws to remove each time.

Dude! Where's the charts and graphs with circles and arrows telling us incomprehensible stats? Instead you wow us with gorgeous footage. You'll never make it on youtube with this sort of review! Ahem. Another great review showing us real world footage and examples of how you work and what the lens can do. I'll have to go back to your DJI Focus thingie review to see how that works. Sounds like it was super useful here. These lenses on my short list though I can't afford them. It's weird, they are so clean, but the transitions to the out of focus areas are where they get their character without having what we normally think of with character (cue up the word: "vintage" for those other lenses). I hate to say bokeh in this context because it's more than than though it's definitely in play. Perhaps je ne sais quoi says it best. Can't believe I'm so enamored of a lens that's so clean, though not clinical and perhaps the fact that people use the former tells us something. Anyway, I'm happy to see your usual thoughtful and measured take on something I'm interested in. By the way, you need more hyperbole in your titles, something like ARE DZO LENSES STILL WORTH IT IN 2024!!! That's how you get the clicks.
