I’m remarking on the guitar in this too… the gentle swing of it is so pleasing. Also in a surprise reversal I feel this is actually less sad than the original… Something about the way Melissa Etheridge sings it makes me think it’s not going to work out for these two. But there’s hope in yours! What is your concept of it??

@isaiahsays Oh yes, I hear Melissa's that way as well! She has a way of singing yearning and despair I never could, it's powerful! Mine is also influenced by the Trisha Yearwood version, which is actually what introduced me to the song as a teenager. Trisha's version portrays more hope, and I like to present it that way when I sing it. This is one of those songs where I find the original to be so profound the only way I think it makes sense to cover it is to change the tone a bit...
