I was born in 1970. Sometime in the early 90s my mom visited a traveling display of the Vietnam memorial wall. She found a name on the wall and I watched her start crying. She told me she had a boyfriend before my dad and he was killed in Vietnam. My mom has since passed away. I always think about that when I hear this song.

What I love the most of these stripped down sessions is Cody’s demeanor. His eyes are closed 99% of the song. You can tell he is just as caught up in the emotions of this song as we are listening to it. Takes a special kind of artist to “tear your heart out when they sing” as George Jones would say. Absolutely love the amount of passion and vulnerability he shows to help us put ourselves on his songs. And how he relays it in the lyrics especially in the songs he’s written himself.

I'm feelin' pretty low" She said "I'm off in an hour and I know a place we can go" So they went down and sat on the pier He said "I bet you got a boyfriend, but I don't care Cause I got no one, to send a letter to Would you mind if I sent one back here to you?" [Chorus] I cried Never gonna hold the hand of another guy "Too young for him," they told her Waitin' for the love of a travelin' soldier Our love will never end Waitin' for the soldier to come back again Nevermore to be alone When the letter says, "A soldier's comin' home" [Verse 2] So the letters came from an army camp In California then Vietnam And he told her of his heart, it might be love And all of the things he was so scared of He said, "When it's gettin' kinda rough over here I sit and think about that day on the pier And I close my eyes and see your pretty smile Don't worry but I won't be able to write for a while" [Chorus] I cried Never gonna hold the hand of another guy "Too young for him," they told her Waitin' for the love of a travelin' soldier Our love will never end Waitin' for the soldier to come back again Nevermore to be alone When the letter says, "A soldier's comin' home" [Verse 3] One Friday night at a football game The Lord's Prayer said and the anthem sang And a man said, "Folks, would you bow your heads For a list of local Vietnam dead?" Well, cryin' all alone underneath the stands Was a piccolo player in the marchin' band And one name read, and nobody really cared Except that pretty little girl with a bow in her hair [Chorus] And I cried Never gonna hold the hand of another guy "Too young for him," they told her Waitin' for the love of a travelin' soldier Our love will never end Waitin' for the soldier to come back again Nevermore to be alone When the letter says, "A soldier's comin' home" When the letter says, "A soldier's comin' home"

I'm feelin' pretty low" She said "I'm off in an hour and I know a place we can go" So they went down and sat on the pier He said "I bet you got a boyfriend, but I don't care Cause I got no one, to send a letter to Would you mind if I sent one back here to you?" [Chorus] I cried Never gonna hold the hand of another guy "Too young for him," they told her Waitin' for the love of a travelin' soldier Our love will never end Waitin' for the soldier to come back again Nevermore to be alone When the letter says, "A soldier's comin' home" 664.9K539 The Chainsmokers 'Ipad' Official Lyrics & Meaning | Verified NOW PLAYINGThe Chainsmokers 'Ipad' Official Lyrics & Meaning | VerifiedOmerettà The Great 'Sorry NOT Sorry' Official Lyrics & Meaning | VerifiedLil Tjay 'In My Head' (Live Performance) | Open MicOmah Lay 'Attention' Official Lyrics & Meaning | Verified [Verse 2] So the letters came from an army camp In California then Vietnam And he told her of his heart, it might be love And all of the things he was so scared of He said, "When it's gettin' kinda rough over here I sit and think about that day on the pier And I close my eyes and see your pretty smile Don't worry but I won't be able to write for a while" [Chorus] I cried Never gonna hold the hand of another guy "Too young for him," they told her Waitin' for the love of a travelin' soldier Our love will never end Waitin' for the soldier to come back again Nevermore to be alone When the letter says, "A soldier's comin' home" [Verse 3] One Friday night at a football game The Lord's Prayer said and the anthem sang And a man said, "Folks, would you bow your heads For a list of local Vietnam dead?" When the chick's sang it I feel like I heard the girls opinion in it but when cody sings it its like I hear the pain in the man more. I totally sympathize with this song and it hits close to home. My grandmother and grandfather were alot like this couple in the song grew up a farm away from eachother and was in love , He got deployed, him and my grandmother got married had a baby (my mom ) and he died when she was 6 months old in the Michelin rubber plantation due to a grenade hitting the tank he was driving. She never knew her biological father but would go on to hear stories of his bravery. You bring out the side that I didn't get to see from my pap and I hear the hurt he probably felt in those last seconds as his wife and daughters face flashed in his mind as he felt the explosion take place. Thankyou to all of our veterans.

I'm shipping off for Basic Training in 2 weeks, and let me tell ya, I'm nervous as hell. I know it really won't be that bad, but it's a big step for me. I love this cover so much, and I play it all of the time. Thanks Cody!

I want to thank you for what you are doing no matter the branch you chose that you may pay the ultimate price but for protecting something and some people you love. This is why in 2025 im enlisting my self after high school

Think of Basic as getting paid to work out and get mentally tough. You can do it if others have!
