The combo of Orim's Chant and Isochron Scepter was a real thing in Extended 20 years ago thanks to its ability to lock opponents out of playing Magic forever by casting Chant every turn, but can it work in Modern? Let's find out!

To me, control deck without commentary is boring. But as you usually go through your thought process as you go, I think it's entertaining and it's also interesting to know the process and the reason why you did what you did.

80 minute video. "What's our win condition? Elixir of Immortality" Yeah, that tracks
most disgusting thing have done in commander: turn 1- land sol ring pass turn 2- land, tap sol ring for iso scepter, imprint silence, silence the upkeep of the player that threatened to win on their turn turn 3- drew unwinding clock, cast unwinding clock, proceed to silence on every opponent's upkeep.
I really enjoy the occasional control content. They make for slower videos, but hearing you reason out all the point counterpoint and mind games that go on during them helps keep them engaging.
27:24 I like how you talked about using Strand to surveil for another land then proceeded to very much NOT make that play when a land = Supreme Verdict against an opponent with 3 lands in play who had just cast summoner's pact and was relying on creatures to pay for it on their next upkeep.
Seth: I don’t play control because I think it’s bad for content. Meanwhile crim: (No hate towards crim btw I love his content just thought your mentalities were funny)

27:26 It depends on when he does this, but if he removed mana dorks while Nadu is on the stack he could have possibly shut off enough mana to get them to die to their pact. However, when Nadu resolves they have two more mana untapped to possibly plan another dork and a chord in hand we know about. If you wait longer for them to maybe tap out then you're giving them at least two coiling oracle triggers to maybe find more mana to pay for the pact anyways. There is still the Pendelhaven to get two triggers before paying for pact that might have saved them as well. Finding the right time to interact with Nadu is actually really annoying.

I think that the control play, and specifically the control mirrors are enjoyable enough to watch with you at the helm. You explain your reasoning, and fill what would be called empty turns with interesting and enjoyable commentary. Heck, one of my favorite decks recently, and one I built, was a control style deck with your 'exile everything' deck. That was incredibly enjoyable to watch, and it is hard to play, but so, so fun.
We love the control content Seth! Keep it up.
I couldn't click any faster! I LOVE scepter chant and I love Goldfish and Seth. Thanks for the awesome content! You could also run the Teferi creature as a backup if you wanted.

I used to play teferi criature Back in the Day. Being able to flash him EoT surely comes in hand sometimes.
I enjoy watching the control gameplay and control mirrors. It's fascinating decision making, and I still go back and rewatch your old Lantern Control Much Abrew playlist to enjoy some intense control gameplay.
The real sad thing about the nadu game is if you had silenced then fetched to help find the land for verdict they couldnt have paid for pact.
I very much enjoy control decks and would love to see more of them from you!
I enjoy seeing control decks from you. It’s a very different kind of game, but it adds an extra level of mind games for when to hold counters or not.
I love watching the control mirror! Especially with your commentary, it is really cool to hear the thoughts behind every play in such a precise match
Love the control content with your commentary!
I enjoy watching whatever you play! I love your commentary
Seth forgot about Nimble Obstructionist to counter a Scepter activation under the lock
I like watching Control because of the learning that you provide. You explain your moves well, and its really good.
Big fan of you Seth, I actually really like watching control matchups. It usually makes for an interesting slow burn that has very dramatic and exciting end games
Love watching control mirrors! It's great content when you're talking out your decisions, even when there isn't much happening on the board.
Seth I love watching you play control decks! Your commentary makes it very enjoyable to watch
I really enjoy you playing control. It explains a lot.
Seth, I love seeing you play control decks. The more, the better.
I absolutely love control mirrors, I love playing them and I love watching content creators navigate the matchup
Seth, we love watching control decks! Please play more!
I like watching very good control players who describe their thought processes so I can learn.
Control is the only content I watch (and play pretty much), so keep the control videos coming. Also I love control mirrors for the exact same reasons that you mention in the video.
Control vs control matchups are the best way to learn how important resource management (including life as a resource), stretching the value of your cards, threat assessment and playing to your outs. I would not mind seeing more games like this.
Seth forgot about cycling Resounding Wave to bounce Teferi and Scepter under the lock :)
Enjoyed watching you play control and the mirror!
Control mirrors are very interesting, I think. They're very cerebral. The thing that makes it work is the fact that you're describing all the things you *could* play, and the things your opponent *could* play.
i love these control mirrors. im trying to learn the underlining strategies of magic and control is the perfect example of something i have no i have no idea what to do with. control gameplay is super cool to watch
I like watching control mirrors they can lead to some very interesting and sometimes hilarious plays
Personally love watching control decks and control mirrors. It's very interesting seeing the perspective of the person playing and I think it's valuable information for people learning how to play control and what to expect playing it.
Yelling at my screen everytime he goes the safe route in clear moment of advantage 😂
I started playing magic right at the time isochron scepter came out in Mirrodin. Super nostalgic watching this video!
I like the controller mirror because you make it enjoyable, I like that you also get happy making people salty it’s light fun.
If Modern wasn't so expensive to get into I would totally build this deck! It looks so funny to me, even if it isn't that good meta wise.
I love watching control mirrors, CGB got me into magic and gave me an appreciation for a good control mirror
I love watching control decks/control mirrors.
Love watching control decks when you are the pilot. You should brew more of them
That starting story was me like 20 years ago. Iso Lock was my second ever deck. Good memories
I don't particularly enjoy playing as or against control, so i'm unlikely to be in a control mirror; watching is great, i like your commentary, i gain context for what control decks want to do, and how to play around. also the "Oops all board wipes" deck was hilarious. my only complaint, there are lines that i don't understand, especially in modern with cards i don't know what they do. TLDR would like to see more control content
Sounds like that friend & Crim would get along great.
I think these kind of decks are definitely more polarizing. On average more people seem to dislike watching these kind of control decks and control mirrors. I absolutely love it. As a control player myself I love watching you play your control deck here and love it when people play control at tournaments. If there is a control mirror I strap in for the long haul. And as you pointed out, yeah not a lot actually happens, especially in the early turns, but it's a dance. Not a lot happening on the board doesn't mean there isn't a lot happening decision wise. And I love thinking along with the players. But can also understand how that is not for everybody. My personal favorite deck was from a couple of years back where you would win by embleming big Teferi and kept tucking him back in the library. With the Elixer Of Immortality I got similar vibes here. So I loved this. All control all the time would get boring though. But if you manage it switch it up every now and again and play a bit of control I certainly don't mind. I also did not know you are a control player, but because of that you probably don't mind either. But in the end it does depend on all the viewers. If this video tanks that is a clear message. It would suck, but the health of the channel is more important. So if these kind of videos are very unpopular I would understand not getting them in the future.
Reminds me of when I first started playing and my brother was using a weird isocron scepter fog/ mill deck while I was playing the 2021 challenger aggro deck. Had a horrible time until I realized bone crusher giants adventure also says damage cant be prevented, that was a big moment that got me to keep playing because it was so satisfying after losing so much
this was dope, so cool to see seth playing control games, more control >:D
We had similar friends when starting Magic. While he had scepter chant deck (back then fire//ice still worked), he didn't use it when we played for fun. His fun card of choice was Capsize:)
Loved the control mirror
I love watching control games. It's always interesting game play to see how you get out of tough situations. Combo decks can get a bit dull after you know what the combo is. Control games are like watching chess.
My favorite. I played on deployment. It took my friend 2 turns to realize...
Fellow controller player here, but I LOVE watching control for the exact reasons you said: the choices are EXTREMELY important.
liked and comment to tell you all content from you is good. even control!
Waaaaaaaay back when Extended aka Type 1.x was a thing, I played a Scepter Chant deck that was not really that good, but it cleaned up at the kitchen table. This is awesome.
Seth: plays a full lockdown deck Also Seth: it feels bad when they miss landdrops Me: 😅
The early turns of the control mirror are just expected to not be super interested in general, after the first 3-4 turns is when it gets interesting. Deciding what to run out, what to counter, etc. are some of the most fascinating choices and plays in Magic.
As a control player, I enjoy the control content with commentary, lots of interesting decisions. Agree with others that the content isn’t as good without commentary/thought process though.
What does Nadu have in the main deck to stop a chant in response to drawing the last card in the deck?

In response to 53:50 As a control player, I'd really enjoy watching more control games from you.
When the Isochron Scepter deck appears and the first cards I see are 4xKarn and 4x3feri, my first thought is I bet this is loads of fun to play against.
To answer your question I love watching control and prison style decks as well as other archetypes
Love watching control gameplay a lot more than any other aggro
Seth: "Is there any other good birds?" Paradise and Mindcensor: "Am I a joke to you?"
This... This is the video I have been waiting for even since Orim's Chant was revealed in MH3.
YES! control is very fun to watch
I'm probably an oddity but I actually really like watching control mirrors, particularly when there's a lot of discussion around decisions
Does teferis ability get fizzled if they sacrifice the target? Is that how that one works?
You're taking me back to 2002 :)
Seth broke free from Scepter Chant, and ever since, he refused to be restricted by locks, Stax, and cost paying affects. Some say that to this day, if you're extra lucky on a warm summer's night in the woods, Seth will come lumbering out from the tree line and let you draw cards from your Rhystic Study.
So weird when Seth complains about needing an answer to flute when he has Karn and two creature removal spells in hand :| Just turn flute into critter and exile it!
I like watching control, and control mirrors
for what it's worth, seth, i think control decks make for way better content than combo decks
I love the control content, I would really love to see that jeskai miracle phlage deck in much abrew or something
That control match up was super interesting to watch. I enjoy winning and making opponents miserable. Especially with commentary on down each and every intricate decision that you make. But if you lost that last game after punting with the Orim's Chant kicker I wouldn't have forgiven you.
the second game vs nadu when they pact'd, it would have been hilarious to watch you draw a land, verdict and they lose to their pact.

If he had just Solituded the halfling they lose to pact
Arcane Elitist is Scepter with legs if you want recursion in your deck
I love all intricate magic matches, magic was built on non games, the foundation when i started was Armageddons and stasis which is real hard to make exciting if ur not playing, i loved that magic though and content is all about how you convey your thought process, you do that right and it all works. Blindly playing the best pushed carda to win is hardy thought provoking
how is it posasible that there is no link to the merch in the description?
Gotta say I'm happy with phlage's design, simple and perfectly rw, hoping the rest of the cycle is like this. hoping the golgari one is a 1/7 wither and etb/attack fight
I would love to see you play more control style decks, as long as you are narrating your thought process and why you are doing nothing for X turns. I think it'd be very engaging and instructive, especially for Arena Zoomers who might want to learn more about control as a deck type.
I would love to see more control content. More modern and more control. :)
Conyrol is great. I would watch you play a deck of 60 basic lands. I could watch any other magic content creator I come here because I like watching you play Magic regardless of what deck it is. Love all your work keep it up.
id love to see more control gameplay
I looove control mirrors ❤. Longer, better, grindier matches are so much better than one side eating the other by turn 2 😊
As a heavy blue player, control is super fun to watch
Other good birds. Derevi. If it were modern legal, it would have made an archetype.
I say this every time, but "Gield of Guin" is my favorite Goldfish in-joke.
Seth, I know, its a bit late, but can you try pairing up Brisle Bill with Kami of whispered House? Basically, Kami taps for a mana dor brisle bill, which makes her tap for even more mana to activate bill even more often. You can cap out the counters limit on like turn 5-7.
Hey Seth! Comments here slamming out a pile of powerful birds for you. How about an Against the Odds with Nadu in a Bird Tribal deck? Is Nadu so good it can help Bird Tribal?
I would trim a removal spell for a copy of The Wandering Emperor. Gives you another win-con to help against timing out and is still good removal.
