Ygra is mycosynth lattice for creatures. Weirdly enough, there’s never been a card other than mycosynth lattice that just statically turns your opponents stuff into artifacts. So just based on that fact alone there are brews that this card could be a part of. The downside is that outside of being able to potentially lock down your opponents lands mycosynth lattice is pretty meh, and at least ygra is a creature. So as long as you’re okay with running cards like nature’s revolt with your karn, it’s basically another mycosynth lattice

I will say that Nykthos is a substantially stronger card than Three Tree City. It is not particularly difficult for a Nykthos deck to get 4+ pips ready and accounted for on two permanents, while the pool of useable cards that make multiple creatures of the same type is substantially smaller. Nykthos also benefits hugely from Leylines getting Nykthos online turn zero, which is something TTC lacks entirely outside of Chancellor of the Forge.

What's wrong with this game's player base? This is why we can't have nice things.
Hot take, Three Tree City is much more narrow than Seth thinks. You have to have 4 creatures of the same type on the battlefield for it to be better than any other land. In a standard where 4 mana wraths are the baseline, how often do you realistically think that is going to happen? Heck even in tribal EDH decks, how often do you have that many creatures outside of token decks or super low to the ground decks like Elves? I think it will have a home for sure, but I don't think its as universally powerful as he thinks.

I love watching MTGGoldfish but since I follow spoilers on my own, on places like Twitter, i’ve never really needed to watch the spoiler videos. But for Bloomburrow I did my best to avoid spoilers outside of these videos and man was it rewarding. Seth does an amazing job on card analysis and also leaving my own mind to come to conclusions in a way that feels less knee jerky and more entertaining. I also love the long videos because my job requires a lot of driving so being able to put on a video and listen to it is a great way to pass the time with my favorite hobby in magic and one of my favorite channels in MTGGoldfish and Seth specifically.
Wow those reprints with new art is amazing. Bravo to the artist.

14:15 Wrong, you can definitely cast X spells off the top with Glarb - he checks the mana value of the spell, not the card.
@zacharybarbanell1064
15 күн бұрын
(conversely, this means you can't necessarily cast split cards off the top of your deck even if their total mana value is 4, the side you cast has to have mana value 4 on its own.)
@gabecoombs3021
15 күн бұрын
@@zacharybarbanell1064Unfortunately, what you're describing is not how Mana Value currently works in Magic. Also, mainly as clarification, the word spell is used to differentiate between lands and nonlands, so it's used here to say that you can play still play lands off the top, but not spells (any nonland) with mana value 0, 1, 2, or 3. The tricky bit is that Mana Value is different based on where the card is. In this case, it would mean that in order to successfully cast a spell and put it on the stack, it would have to have a Mana Value of 4 or greater while on top of your deck, and since X is 0 everywhere but the stack (202.3e) you couldn't use Glarb's ability to put a spell like Villainous Wealth or Genesis Hydra on the stack since the Mana Value would be 3 or 2, respectively, while on top of your library. From what i can see, though, you are 100% correct on split cards. But split card rules are pretty odd since each half is treated as a separate card when attempting to cast them.

I am not 100% certain if you can choose to cast it on top of the library because there it is not a legal target but in the current wording of the card when casting it X has a value and if the spell including X costs four or more it is legal to be cast. I am not a judge and the word of a random person of the internet is obviously not worth a lot in the face of the local judge. The one you should be asking before taking game actions you are not certain of and could cause you to be disqualified. Also it would not be the first time wizards changed a printed card to not work like it is wirtten. (companions being a prime example)

And with it, Lanowar Elves) since you can actually get Beza ahead of Curve which is very important to consider in Standard Bo1 with all the Aggro infesting the format which makes the Lifegain and the Fish come into play (which turns Beza from a 4/5 into a 6/7 in overall value)

Glarb can absolutely cast X spells. The spell's legality is checked on the stack, not in the library. That's why Mystic Forge allows you to Morph/Disguise cards from the top of your library.
@duathhadron5040

Not in this case. When you’re searching your deck for a spell, the X is counted as a 0. So if you have an X spell on top of your library, X is equal to 0. So unless it’s X+ 4 other mana, you won’t be able to cast it.

@@duathhadron5040 Once again, the mana value in the library does not matter. 601.2a To propose the casting of a spell, a player first moves that card (or that copy of a card) from where it is to the stack. It becomes the topmost object on the stack. It has all the characteristics of the card (or the copy of a card) associated with it, and that player becomes its controller. Any continuous effects that modify the characteristics of the spell as you start casting it begin as it is put on the stack (see rule 611.2f). The spell remains on the stack until it resolves, it’s countered, or a rule or effect moves it elsewhere. The very first step to casting a spell is to move it to the stack. At this point, it is no longer in the library. 601.2b If the spell is modal, the player announces the mode choice (see rule 700.2). If the player wishes to splice any cards onto the spell (see rule 702.47), they reveal those cards in their hand. If the spell has alternative or additional costs that will be paid as it’s being cast such as buyback or kicker costs (see rules 118.8 and 118.9), the player announces their intentions to pay any or all of those costs (see rule 601.2f). A player can’t apply two alternative methods of casting or two alternative costs to a single spell. If the spell has a variable cost that will be paid as it’s being cast (such as an {X} in its mana cost; see rule 107.3), the player announces the value of that variable. If the value of that variable is defined in the text of the spell by a choice that player would make later in the announcement or resolution of the spell, that player makes that choice at this time instead of that later time. If a cost that will be paid as the spell is being cast includes hybrid mana symbols, the player announces the nonhybrid equivalent cost they intend to pay. If a cost that will be paid as the spell is being cast includes Phyrexian mana symbols, the player announces whether they intend to pay 2 life or a corresponding colored mana cost for each of those symbols. Previously made choices (such as choosing to cast a spell with flashback from a graveyard or choosing to cast a creature with morph face down) may restrict the player’s options when making these choices. The second step is making any choices such as X costs and alternative costs. This is when a Morphed card becomes colorless (which Mystic Forge's rulings confirm makes it legal to cast as a colorless spell, even if it is colored while in the library), and when the mana value of an X cost spell is set. 3rd step is choosing targets, 4th step is dividing damage/counters. Not posting the rulings simply because they are not relevant to this interaction. 601.2e The game checks to see if the proposed spell can legally be cast. If the proposed spell is illegal, the game returns to the moment before the casting of that spell was proposed (see rule 730, “Handling Illegal Actions”). The fifth step is when the game actually checks if the spell, with the current parameters, is legal to cast. This is when the game checks "Is this spell that was cast from the top of the library colorless" or "Is this spell that was cast from the top of the library mana value 4 or greater?"

Actually Seth, Season of Weaving is actually pretty good in Blue Decks that it might see some amount of play on many formats, specially on Bo3 as a sideboard staple - The 1 Paw mode, can actually be quite useful recovery option in Midrange/Control Decks alongside Farsight Ritual and Intrude of the Mind (very important to remember that we're losing Memory Deluge (which many Blue Decks have become so reliant on) with the Release of Bloomburrow) as that top end to allow you to get more pieces later on - The 2 Paw mode is literally the most broken of the modes since you can activate this twice per cast (and a the same time going +0 in hand advantage with that last Paw) since it can open some crazy plays in almost every Format it will be playable on. In Standard this can literally get you 2 extra Simulacrum Synthesizers out of the cast of one card (which is something i don't really want to be facing against) to give a example; In Modern, this can net you a new pair of Kappa Cannons in Mono Blue Affinity or two more Springheart Nantukos in Bant Nadu or 2 more Medallions for Jeskai Storm. Now you realize how crazy this is? - The 3 Paw mode is basically a Mass casting of Fading Hope. Which is not that good, but is welcome since we're lacking in Boardwipes outside of Black, Red and White

Ruthless Negotiation has such sweet art. Fireglass Mentor is one I am excited to try and play. A 2 mana creature that draws* a card on every** one of my turns?! Lizard bob is going to be fun.
most exited for the food cards one of my fav commanders is gyome and with the new food tech it looks really promising, we already got good tech not long ago in wilds of eldraine and now this, also need to mention the setting seems incredible with the freaking otter doing a power pose in every single art its just amazing
Just gotta clarify, the imagine critters are mostly in collector boosters, and of the ones we saw today, only Tamiyo is from the precons. The three others we don’t know yet.

@@tyleranderson3290 they’ve confirmed that only tamiyo is the one in the precons so far. All the courageous critters card have the commander set symbol to denote that they’re not standard legal, not that they’re from the commander decks. And Ral is in the main set because he isn’t a part of this courageous critters stuff, he’s in the actual story and all. Everyone else is either in collector boosters or precons, but they’ve only shown Tamiyo for the precons so far
Ygra and granting him protection from artifact basically makes him run wild through the board.
cant wait for three tree city in my kudo king among bears deck :)
Camellia & Ygra + a sac outlet and an additional food/creature make a functionally infinitely large Ygra. Maybe a smidge janky for constructed but certainly a fun strat in edh.
Beza being a 4 mana 4/5 reminds me of Siege Rhino. sure it misses the trample, but its extra bodies, and easy playability for being mono colored makes up for it.
You missed that Season of Weaving can go infinite with any creature that copes a spell on ETB, like Dualcaster Mage! Play season Play mage Target season with mage Target mage with the copied season Infinite ETB's, infinte spells cast, infinite card draw, and a mass bounce spell that leaves the billions of dualcaster mage tokens you just made I'm so putting that season into my commander Izzet storm deck

Is it infinite spells cast? Or just copied? Edit: nice find

One danger of doing this is that, if you use Dualcaster Mage at least, you need to have an out or else it’s an unbounded loop. Dualcaster Mages trigger is not a may and you can’t change modes due to the way it is copied so once everything is bounced you just have to target Dualcaster Mage over and over unless there’s a treasure token or something for you to target. If you choose the card draw option you’ll need something else on board to copy or die to milling out, but that shouldn’t be much of an issue.
Beza should be in the sideboard of panharmonicon decks. I feel it could be a very good sideboard card with how versatile it is. It can catch up in basically any direction
This set reminds me of Lorwyn, which was part of my all time favorite block. Even the words from those sets are included "Bramble" "Duo" "Mentor" "Thistledown". Glad MTG is going back to high fantasy.
did they find a way to fix energy? paws are just you get x energy then pay energy to do things but it stays contaied to the casted card over what energy did
23:26 I think it's a great blink target. Just blink it when it gives you value. You can sac a fetch land and blink Beza in response to guarantee the treasure trigger. You can pay life, play cards, whatever -- if you have the option to instant speed blink Beza, you can kind of always regain your lead. It also gives a little disadvantage to first/double strike decks because you can dip below the opponent's life total from the first strike damage and then blink Beza before the non-first strikers deal damage. 27:52 It makes an infinite loop with at least 2 Cauldron familiars 51:19 lol. Prowess, cast triggers, landfall, creaturefall. This is just another way to be rewarded for playing cards. I think it's pretty cool
Maha in Doran, the Siege Tower seems pretty wild too
Ygra, with 2 caldron familiars is an infinite combo as well no? Sack familiar (food) to familiar from graveyard.
Bello, Bard of the Brambles is actually super sweet with Leylines. The Leylines don't even need to be good - as soon as you hit 3 mana and drop Bello, you have a bunch of 4/4s that refill your hand.
Stormcatch Mentor is probably going to even see Modern play replacing Goblin Electromancer. Zinnia goes well with that new Eldrazi dragon, since Offspring tokens have the same mana cost as the normal creature does and are fantastic fodder for Emerge.
Love the basic land in joke at tomer
I love that when Seth thought of using the big cat as a sac outlet hist first two thoughts were "mindslicer everyone discards their hand" and "bearer of heavens mld" xD This set is looking gorgeous and super flavorful. A friend of mine told me the calamities were all "normal" animals because to mice and otters and small birds and lizards, facing a tiger or a big dog or an owl is suuuuper scary, as its a beast several times their size, known for eating their kind for breakfast.
As someone that's playing a token-based combo deck right now, I'm always paying attention to token card spoilers. Not a competitive combo, but an interesting one nonetheless: Yrga + Chatterfang + Camellia - if you sac a squirrel, you now get 2 squirrels back (the squirrel is food due to Yrga, you sac it to an effect, Camellia gives you a squirrel due to sac'd food, Chatterfang makes it 2). If you have a free sac outlet somewhere that's infinite squirrels (keeping in mind that something that sacs artifacts would work given that the food creatures are also artifacts). Of course, you can omit Chatterfang, and Yrga + Camellia makes infinite food/artifact/creature sacs. Now, that one might actually be viable with the right sac outlet (is there a standard sac outlet that costs no mana?), given that they're both on color and both in standard. If nothing else it's a 2 card combo that grows your Yrga infinitely large, but of course the cat doesn't have evasion. Basically, keep an eye on those two, Yrga + Camellia might be legit.
Ral became an otter due to Bloomburrow's planar gimmick (think of Segovia's smallness) - only a certain list of creatures exist there, and everything that enters becomes something on that list, whatever fits best. So, Jace is a fox, Nissa is a frog, Tamiyo (would have been) a rabbit, etc.
I'm high on Artist's Talent. I think there's some SERIOUS legs with the level 2 ability for artifacts. You can cast multiple artifacts for free if they are 1 mana, and if you do get it to level 3 you can probably close out the game fast if you have something that pings when you cast artifacts.
I haven’t seen people mention this but Ygra and Experimental confectioner go near infinite in standard? When you sac a food, confectioner makes you a rat, which ygra turns into a food. Add a Bartolome del Presidio into the mix and you go truly infinite. We already have a few good food cards and a lot of creature tutors in standard, as long as the deck gets like 1-2 extra other pieces from this set I could see it become a real thing 👀

Camellia, Ygra, and any free sac outlet also go infinite
With cards like One Tree City, maybe we should use "devotion" beyond colors. "Devotion to creatures of the chosen creature type" has 2 less words than "number of creature you control of the chosen type". We did change "enters" with "enters the battlefield".

Devotion is specifically about mana pips in mana costs. It’s not counting the number of black permanents you have, so it’s not really the same thing

I think that's a really cool idea, maybe if there's gets a tribal set in theros that could make an amazing mechanic. Also it's three tree city.
Been waiting for this all day. It’s time to get Whimsical.
So if someone from bloomburrow planes walks or takes an omen path to another plane, do they stay animals or turn into a humanoid?
10:51 The difference between these two cards is that one of them is a BOARDWIPE. Which can ALSO grant you a creature that STICKS AROUND.
It's like with that tiny things world, planeswalkers autoudapt to some aspects of the world they visit
the fact that no one has mentioned CADIRA CALLER OF THE SMALL for the bunny decks is wild to me. my rabbit token deck is already my strongest and it is about to get even better and even more thematic
So the kitty makes everything food, and the squirrel make token when u sack food, there has to be some kinda infinite combo somewhere no?
I play Tatsunari as a sultai enchantment deck with a frog tribal subtheme cause Tatsunari can give frogs evasion so I'm excited for Glarb.
I just saw an infinite combo with the new Squirrel Legendary, Camellia, the Seedmiser, and Ygra, Eater of All. A little set has to happen, but with Ashnod's Alter or the Ironworks where you sacrifice an artifact or creature for two mana plus any draining effect when creatures go to the graveyard. All you have to do is sacrifice one creature it will start draining people. Ygra turn everything to food. You sac a food/creature and get a 1/1 Squirrel token due to Camellia, which in turns becomes a food again due to Ygra. Just rinse and repeat.
So paws counters are like energy counters. That’s pretty cool

3:59 my glissa deck will love this for phyrexian spam
I would tell you why Ral got turned into an Otter, but I am not sure you would want to hear the tale, it's otterly devastating!
I like expend as long as it doesn't have a cathaclismic effect of some kind. It's a good wording, easy to understand, helps you when you have stuff to do but it does nothing when you're flooding or having a activated abilities kind of turn. I like it. Hope they don't go over the top with it.
in cEDH the season of the bold is an instant win for magda decks. turn 5 mana into 5 treasures, sac them to magda.
Wait doesnt Ygara + Camellia + free sac outlet just go infinite? I know its alot but kinda surprised
Rarely get to watch their live stream and I’m really liking this set, it’s just “fun” lol
Three tree city will be hard to play because it's easier to cast a spell with three pips than get three creatures of a certain type. If usefull it will probably be elves or goblins or something (I don't know).
Three Tree City, is flat out amazing for any creature type focused deck especially if it's multicolour, even if it's mono coloured and has tokens, it's going to produce more mana for you than the Nxy land by a long shot, and it's still going to be better most of the time compared to a like a Secluded Courtyard which is only going to give you 1 mana of that colour. Depending how rare the card actually is, that thing is going to become a steeple in alot of decks. The only fair thing about it is the legend rule and having to pay 2 mana first.
Really impressed you never noticed Ral was an otter. Good on you for not seeing race king.
Season of Loss looks like it fills the void left by the Invoke Despair ban. It clears the board, draws cards, and can kill. What more could you want for 5 mana.
That racconta 3 mana combo well with the new racconta two mana that grow
To anyone to doesn't know already: When a Planeswalker arrives at Bloomburrow they transform into a Humanoid Animal, if you want to complain you probably have to go back in time to do so since Kylem also has a weird effect of shrinking everyone down to mini size..
With Expend, do you get the Expend benefit if you spend EXACTLY the number listed? For example, say I cast an Etali. Does that mean I wouldn't gain three life off of Muerra? 🤔
Beza seems insane against mono red in standard at least. Gain 4, get a 4/5 blocker and 2 chumps. Sounds pretty great to me as a minimum sideboard all star.
I initially thought this was stupid. But the designs and mechanics really pull this together. Gift... classes like baker... look at the spoilers the cutest one is "run away together."
Seth, what’s your fursona? Everyone wants to know.
