The plus for you is you can dry your hair with a blow dryer. Look at the positive. You can dry and fix it. We thick haired people it takes a lot of time to dry. I do not blow dry my hair.

Try trimming off a few inches and see if it's easier to manage; you might be happier. Better to not do a huge cut immediately but something in between if you're thinking about going short.

I can see how she does everything except the last bit. What is she doing when she tucks the two outer twists under the ponytail to make it stay put?

It's that transparent and thin elastic which is usually disposable, i.e. you cut it when removing it rather than pulling it along your hair. They are sold in a bunch of about 30 pieces for barely 30 cents per set.

Don't worry, you are still lucky. Thick hair is harder to work with. You only need to study the right combination of hairsprays and texturizing sprays, so as to give your hair an illusion of volume and texture when working on your hairstyle on the one hand, but avoiding too overloading your hair with the said products so it doesn't flatten out. It also helps a lot if you crimp your roots a little, it does wonders really. Hair crimpers are still very useful for this, lucky me who hasn't thrown away that 80s trend tool. 😂 Don't worry, just watch videos of professional hairdressers demonstrating hairstyles and using that average, white European medium- or low-volume fine straight hair. Notice what hairsprays they use upon preparing the hair and see whether same or similar products sit well on your hair as well.
