From the bottom of my heart I want to say thank you Garry Tan. I have been watching you since March 2020 and your videos have been the main influence in a lot of really big decisions I have made this past year that have all been right decisions looking back. I can't put a price to all value I have received from watching your wisdom-filled content. I have shared your channel to many of my like-minded friends and family, but I just wanted to say thank you and that I am so excited for the day I get to pitch my startup to you as you have been so influential to it!

Meticulous planning and noticing a really potential addressable market opportunity is what’s needed. Far too many hasty startups today. As Thiel says, the product or service must be a x10 improvement and not incremental. This may take a while but good luck. I’m in the same boat but we’ve just got to embrace our inner frontal cortex and think. Patience is key.

The Google hiring process is program. Their hiring process only selects candidates that are good at memorizing leetcode and algorithmic problems. This is something that I’ve always had a problem with when it comes to many of the big tech companies. Many of them focus their interviews on your knowledge of search algorithms. I last studied search algorithms in college, more than thirty years ago. Do you know how many times I have implemented a search algorithm during my career? Zero. If I need to search a collection, I will use the language’s built in search facility, which will be faster and more bug-free than anything I can develop. So why are you testing me on something that you will never have me do? It makes no sense to me. It is to most software engineering as a karate kata is to real self defense - more performance art than anything actually useable.

Most big tech companies have this problem of excess cash on their balances... It happens that, if they invest it in other things than tech or self projects (or distribute it as dividends), they just unfortunately signal to the market that they are lacking profitable projects, and therefore "losing their edge"... And this certainly will have a consequence on their present stock price...

One thing to note is that companies led by the actual founders are more likely to reinvest in (what is essentially thier dream) innovation. That's why car companies that have been around for eons can't beat Tesla: because the head of engineering at Porsche is off home at 5 pm while Elon is just getting started. Also why Jeff is doing what he's doing. Case in point: the difference between Steve Jobs' Apple and Tim cook's.
