    Thanks for this! I may pick this one up for the the multifunction capability. I use EQ for correction rather than an effect. I really like tweaky EQ's in the studio or in post production. I do a lot of location recording and tweaky EQ's can save a live capture. I don't like tweaky live, decisions need to be made fast so too many choices don't facilitate a live mix. I would agree that the most useful thing about analog emulations IS the imparted nonlinearity and again I find that most useful for post production duties. I appreciate an associated RTA or FFT display while applying EQ, it helps to zero in on the offending frequencies. I have a bunch of EQ's and lately I've found the Sonible Smart EQ 3 for mastering and the Radial Surfer EQ 2 for fixing leakage and other problems. I also like DMG Audio's EQuick and have used it on a lot of releases over the last few years. I do a lot of M/S and Blumlein mic techniques in my live work and like DMG Audio's [free!] TrackControl to process M/S to stereo in post. For that matter ReaEQ that comes with Reaper keeps improving and I do find it useful and quick. I'm not a fan of Fabfilter due to their feature for price ratio which I perceive to be a bit high for what's offered similar to the ProTools model.

    I don't know if you've addressed this, but having the curves without the saturation is advantageous and not snake oil, since it gets you where you need to go faster. Especially if you are familiar with how the curves work. It's the same as having different curve types in the Sonnox EQ, etc, etc.... There are plenty of saturation plugins that let me create the tone I need.

    Well to me a good plugin is not about all the features a developer can cram into its code. I like the idea that this is a limitless Fabfilter Pro-Q3 but I'm pretty sure I'd use it like a Fabfilter Pro-Q3 99% of the time and use the additional features occasionally. Yes, Pro-Q3 is kind of limited but it's also waaaay more focused and you don't need to spend too much time in the settings to get amazing control over your EQ. It already is extremely powerful (enough for me anyway) and, to a certain extent, it can already ruin your mix if you don't use it carefully. Putting the Kirchhoff into the wrong hands could be devastating for their mix.

  • @haslo_
    @haslo_2 жыл бұрын

    If I was somehow unhappy with Pro-Q 3, or wouldn't already have it, or would have too much money, I'm sure I'd buy this. Choosing between this and Pro-Q 3 it looks like this one would be better. But anybody who already has Pro-Q 3 will have to think three or four times whether this really improves their workflow this much. I don't see that happen for me, but it's great that there's some real competition in that space!

These guys (and most audio programmers) are not making new audio secret techniques. New setups would be making your own panning algorithm between 10 speakers or making an eq plug that can make all speakers sound different but you use one GUI|[graphical user interface]. Or making an eq scan for feedback and remove it. Or making an equalizer that scans mobile phone signals|[5g] for a single voice. Good video.

    You can get the same result with a dynamic eq and with an huge plus: with a dynamic eq you can set many curves with different thresholds and attack times whereas you have only a global attack time in spliteq for all curves. Moreover, spliteq has an huge latency, then it's not viable for tracking.

It's very CPU heavy for obvious reasons.

Moreover they developed Physion some years ago which uses the same approach of spliteq but with a different interface. Spliteq is a good tool and you can get good results faster but nothing you can't get with a dynamic eq, a multiband transient designer or a multiband compressor/expander.

    I need some help with this - I'm trying to make sense of what the plugin is doing when using external sidechain, and I click on the Detect & Relative "Free" buttons one by one (or both). I've got a Kirchhoff EQ on a bass, and the kick is sidechained to that bass. Kirchhoff is listening to it. At this point I'm clear on why the dips are occurring based on the bass frequency activity. Where it gets foggy is not when I click "Relative", but when I Click Detect (both are SC enabled). Do you guys understand how this is working? Obviously Kirchhoff is supposed to be reacting to any signal coming from the sidechain input that occupies the regions where I have my Detect and Relative horizontal lines spread within the audio spectrum, right? In this case what's happening is that the kick is short, and the attack and release is set the same as another bell doing the same thing on a different frequency. However, in the 2nd frequency, when I switch from Relative to Detect (both have SC enabled) the dips go way out of sync, possibly a 16th out of sync! I don't think there is an increase of frequency material coming in that late from the sidechain input from the kick, if you see what I mean.

    To me this ends up in the "multiple plugins smashed together" class. There are a lot of great features here, but I can already do all of this if I just use more than one plugin... And I think I can get the different tasks done BETTER by using multiple plugins instead. Like the analog style filters, I would rather just use an actual analog emulation EQ. And for dynamic EQ, I would rather use either a multiband comp or one of the fully featured dynamic EQs I have. The list goes on. I see this being great FOR THE MONEY though, like if you don't have all these different plugins you can get a TON of utility for very little money (relatively speaking).

Whereas with this ie u have to tweak so many knobs to get the eq behave like the FF. Raise you hand if you think the learning curve for DAW based recording keeps getting steeper and steeper. Who has time to: 1) understand the parameters/features of such a plugin, and 2) get enough practice with it so that it becomes a second nature part of your workflow? One thing could be said for analog gear in this case - the limitations of having just a few knobs and faders might actually work in your favor. We are so caught up in minutiae these days . . . .

    Ask yourself what you need. Then hold onto that answer. It depends entirely on you. When it comes to dynamic eq'ing, you might want to revisit the part where he uses it. If you don't need it, well that's good too! I can say that I really like Pro-Q 3 and the stock EQ's like Cubase's Frequency, also from FL Studio, Logic and Ableton. But what I like having at hand in the same package is offered by this plugin which is, well, great! But hey, that's just my opinion. I can make the hits with any of these EQ's no problem. But I also like Kirchoff and honestly I get something beneficial out of its features. I believe that matters to me. While I do like the "analog" filters, there's gonna be some work done before it's worth calling an asset to the plugin itself. Who knows?
