Jake ( lead singer of cs) is so amazing. Went to see Citizen soldier in concert last year. It was a small venue. A fan had a sign saying how many days she had not self harmed and Jake saw her sign got down off the stage and hugged her. Didn't care that he stopped singing just wanted to tell her how proud he was of her and how happy he was she was there. He hugged everyone and talked to every fan even though the venue was threatening to charge him because it was taking so long. He was willing to pay a fine so that he could talk to all of us. He is just as kind and compassionate as he seems. Just thought i would share. ❤

So a bit of the history referenced here. In 2016 Jake Segura the lead singer of Citizen Soldier did attempt to take his own life. Obviously he survived and following that while in the psych ward he wrote a set of lyrics on a napkin, those lyrics went on to become Citizen Soldier’s first single Let it Burn (great song by the way I highly recommend checking it out). So yeah, just emphasizing the point of their music coming from a real place, what they are singing here is very real especially for Jake.

When you mentioned that kids who listened to Linkin Park are now the ones who are listening to Citizen Soldier, I was thinking “OH WAIT, THAT’S ME” I’ve had depression since October of last year. And ever since, I just go to music when I need it. Citizen Soldier is one of those few bands that will never fail to not make me cry. (I’ve listened to ICU way too much lately and the way I sob) but uh yeah.

This song is exactly what I love about Citizen Soldier. That mix of devastation and hope and acceptance and love that we all need. I think some of the best things about their songs is that they speak to me. There are so many times where I have felt alone and at my limit. I've had medication where the side effects were worse than what they were supposed to fix. I've been there...and knowing I'm not alone makes it a lot easier. DJ, thank you for this raw and real reaction. Thank you for feeling as much as you do with your whole heart. Thank you for the community you have built that has given people like me a home and a feeling of being safe and cared for. Thank you to all the members of the Herd for being you. I only recently found your page, but I needed to say thank you. I have lost so many people and have been feeling so alone. I hadn’t heard this before, and I think I needed that message of strength when you’re at the end of your rope. I don’t think I could have processed it without you pausing to take things in; so again, thank you.

Love them . Few understand mental health issues and how often those of us challenged with it keep our mouths shut OR just don't have the words to explain . I appreciate them for making it easier to even start the conversations in the first place. It is so much easier when you can be honest without resorting to self deprecating jokes. I still default to the jokes but I'm working on it. I was trained to not love me. I was trained to believe I'm valueless, that kind of thing takes a lot of time to even get to the point of understanding the trauma. I don't know if I'll get past it. I have accepted that it happened and I don't "hear" things correctly through that filter. How to undo it?! Oh I'm not even close. *chuckle good thing I can laugh at myself.

This is probably the most important, accurate, and real video I’ve seen you post. I struggle to stay within my limit daily. Thank you. This validation is empowering.
