This story as told here corroborates the Spiritual Evolution theory of Creation when in the beginning there was nothing on earth but water and every creature came out of water . You only need to look at the Chameleon (agemo) Closely to discover its dinasaur like make up . The agemo as it is called is an old creature, one of the earliest in the line.

King Ṣango of Ọyọ Empire is not the same with the Oriṣa Ṣango. King Ṣango of Ọyọ was a devotee of the Oriṣa Ṣango. Oriṣa Ṣango era was thousands of years earlier. Oriṣa Ṣango was born in Ile-Ifẹ and his mother was Yemọja. King Ṣango of Ọyọ was born in Ọyọ-Ile and his mother was Torosi Iya-Gbọdọ from Elenpe in Nupeland (Tapa). IFA is the historian (OPITAN) of the Yoruba Worldview.

A female Babalawo is called Iyanifa. Among Yoruba, we have iyanifa. The difference between Babalawo (father of spiritual knowledge of ifa) and Iyanifa (mother of spiritual knowledge of ifa) is that a woman cannot see ODU because ODU is a female energy. "Like poles repel, unlike poles attract" (MAGNETISM). On the spiritual plane, women are more powerful than men. Remember the spiritual power of women, IYAMI/ẸLẸYẸ/AJẸ. Every woman is born with the spiritual power of IYAAMI but might not yet be activated, which is done through initiation.

Aboru Aboye Abossise ogbo ato Ausre IworI Wofun, wrong... That is a western view, women are not "born" with some super power. If so we can say men are born with oro, this is not the case. Only men see IGBAODU, Igbaodu means a place were you marry odu. If a female cannot ITELODU sge can not be an Oluwo. Elegan is an Atamaki intiation, this is the modern way women intiate to Orunmila....this Atimaki is a worshiper not a priestes Iyanifa is made up, in Abeokuta to ode remo this is known.

Dear sir I would happily believe this if you could back it up with some evidence. if not it's, as you said a story.

this story is older than other religious stories so by date this preceded other religions. the divination and Oracle of Ifa is further proof you might want to visit a babalao to see this for your self.

Of course it is a story, as all myths are. Yoruba tradition is oral, the only evidence you can find is whether it resonates with your heart. As simple as that.

By what I gathered, The word "Yorubawa" literally means "The people of the South" as described by the Hausa/ or some Northern tribes. Also ... it is also believed that when Islamist Jihadist conquered the North to change their culture, some of the people who refused Islam moved southwards, and probably mixed and get absorbed into the Southern tribes ... and that is why there can be no one story of how the Yoruba formed as it evolved over many generations of different migrations, even the Aworis, who are clearly not Yourubas are getting absorbed till today.

The creation story is very sophisticated and metaphorical but unfortunately many ppl would take it laterally. The quantum physics and string theory postulates that the idea of a cosmic serpent/dragon/Chicken that spread the galaxies of stars across the universe like a sand. The Chief's reference to 200 chain is very similar to Jacob's ladder (Judiasm) used as a tool to transition from astral/etheric plane to physical plane(our world). However, I disagree with the chief about the yoruba not coming from sudan/mecca. Up to 150 yrs ago, only ppl from the oyo kingdom were called yoruba while others that shared the language were called something else(i.e. ekiti, ewe, edo etc) and all groups were origical called Sophi and the language "Sopho" -(now referred to as incantenation) which belongs to an afrosemtic/afroasiatic language family. There are 500 words that modern day Yoruba share with ancient egyptian. Modern day arabs are not native to the land. Prophet Mohammed(peace be upon him) fought against ppl he referred as pagans(worshipers of many gods(orisha)). Ever wonder why arabs enjoy yoruba songs because its octave is very similar to all afroasiatic language including arabic, aramaic & turkish etc. Message me if you want to know more.

Yoruba always call themselves Ọmọ Karọ Ojire or by their respective subgroup. It was the people of Ancient Mali Empire that gave the name Yoruba to anyone that speaks ANAGO dialects. Ancient Mali could care less if you were Ọyọ, Ekiti, Ijẹbu or Ajaṣẹ. People are known worldwide by what outsiders call them. Germany (deutschland), Hungary (magyar), Finland (suomi), Japan (nippon) are known by what others call them not what they call themselves.

I agree with you except the speculation that orishas' are "gods". No they are not gods. Yoruba has just one God 'Eledumare'. Orisha is shorten from 'awon ti ori sha', meaning 'the Special Ones' or 'Heros' . You'll never hear any yoruba call Ifa 'Oluwa ifa' or 'Eledumare Ogun'. I hope this information helps.
