Through AfricanAncestry.com DNA analysis I just found out that my lineage is Yoruba!!! And this is the first book that I ordered. It's definitely on point! I'm also teaching myself the Yoruba language. I strongly recommend that our other African American brothers and sisters seek and find their ancestral roots and reconnect with our African brothers and sisters in Nigeria and elsewhere.

readytofight100 I'm not African that I can definitely say that the Yoruba are one of my favorite cultures to study in the world. I love the Yoruba religion and I prefer it to the Judeo Christian tradition.

People under estimate the importance and influence of the Yoruba people in the world. As a race, Yorubas are progenitors, our peoples, enslaved or free, can be credited for world building on a massive scale, continually through out history. The proliferation of Yoruba culture, be it through slavery, or our curiosity, which encourages us to persist on spreading across all lands, almost indicates a real uniqueness, affinity and special importance/place amongst all people.

O se for this my brother, I ain't Yoruba but used to roll with them a lot. Always fascinated by the culture and learnt some of the language too. Since having a newborn I can't read as much (used to always go through books quick) so now I listen to audio books at work. I have wanted to read this but no time and you gave me a glimpse into it! Thanks again family and may Allah/Oluwa/God bless you!

@Arias williams I hope you will remake this and other videos you have about the Yòrúbá people when you review the proof of the real origin of the Yòrúbá as can be found in works by western explorers far before 1886 as sourced by the writer of the book you have reviewed. The Yòrúbá are the Old people of ErhVerh, the hundreds of thousands of years statements by the "dating" systems we know are no longer majority accepted as the "shroud of turin" debacle has proved, I refer you to the channel run by Akwetey Amaah (KZread) the videos show the references needed, the publications: "The Call" to THE HEBREWS, The Bible Is The Black Man's History Book (these books provide recorded proof and links to verified academic references for further verification / study, as well as the scriptural proof evidenced by the actualisation of the Prophecies, description of the traits of the Israelites tribes which are still evident among the Yòrúbá spread across the entire west African coast, thus proving the SCRIPTURES "Bible" as FACTUAL not a fantasy or incoherent body of work but actually the record of a special people blessed and Chosen by the Almighty Supreme One YHVwH... this book from your dissertation on it so far limits the YÒRÚBÁ to the present south western "Nigeria", but in reality they are spread right across the entire west African coast.

In the diaspora different tribes from all over Africa were brought to Cuba, Haiti, Brazil and many other places as slaves. Being that the word Voodoo stands for Spirit. Palo Mayombe is Spirit worshipping that came from the slave from Congo. Being that eshu is an orisa from Yoruba. Has me to believe that Voodoo came into existance from these tribes coming together as one to worship while trying to hide it from the slave masters. In Cuba santeria came into existence because the slave masters where catholic, so to hide it. They synchronized the orisa with each catholic saint so that the masters didn't know they were really worshipping orisa which was forbidden. The beauty is that we did what we had to to to keep the religion alive. Voodoo is also the reason why Haiti won its independence.

Peace brother, One of the best ways of tracing the root of a people is through their language. Even though I'm skeptical about the myth of Obatala and Oduduwa coming down to carry out the mission as I was also told as a kid during the after sunset story time. The Creator of the world knows best. However here is my inspiration; the name Obatala seems to be a portmanteau of 2 words which are "Oba"=King and "tala" which could have easily be evolved from the word which is found in the Arabic language today as (Ta aa la /تعالى) = most high. I believe the Arabic language is from the Ajami language of the hausa people also from Nigeria. Putting the 2 together, we have, "The Most high king" in other word "God". Does that make sense to anyone? Here is a fact; most of the significant historic and religious entities even some angels carry the name of God in them for example "Isra EL", the arch angel is called "Jibr EEL", "Ishm EL" or Isma EEL which means "God heared my prayer" and so on. As the story been tampered with through time? or even manipulated by some dominant tribe to proof superior? but kept the name intact till today as hint.God knows best!!!

smh.. Obatala has nothing to do with Arabic. 'Ala' as in 'Aso Ala' is a sacred white cloth that Aworo(Priests) wear, Obatala(the Historic Man) had a cotton farm from which he had all his cloths made in White... People started calling him Oba ti Ala...King of White cloth

mark faleye I respectfully disagree. Firstly the pronunciation of the word "ala" in that name is different from the pronunciation in the word ala meaning white. Secondly, according to you, oba ti ala should " king of the white". unfortunately, i can't leave a voice comment to clarify the pronunciation. Thirdly, black nations are suffering from lack of the true historical knowledge and have been mostly brainwashed to think they can NEVER be from Arabia and they have nothing to do with the land. Whereas, the land of Arabia belongs to us. And the prophets including Muhammad were black. There are some names in Arabic that makes sense only in Yoruba, and that's because the original and ancient Arabic and other afro asia language are our language but have been remodeled by those foreigners living there today to hide your past. from you.

listen Mr. man, In yorubaland, we trace our history by Oriki of our Idile( or clan if you may), No where in this part of the world will you find an arab descendant. Just because some thing does not fit into your fantasies does not make it brainwash. The so called foreigners did not come and form Yoruba orikis. You know nothing about the Yoruba people or language. I will go over this again; Ala is the white cloth used by Aworo, Obtala wore only Ala all his life, hence was called King of the Ala (white cloth) Please do not disrepect my ancestors, trying to call lthem what they were not is an insult

Calm down brother, being arrogant won't take us anywhere. The world is in a darkness of multiple layers. For your information, I'm an oyo man, that is a confirmed Yoruba descendant. There are proofs that Yoruba people lived on that land (arabia) before the foreigners invasion. I advise you to do some research on that. Those people you see in Arabia today arrived recently. It's not my fantasy, it's the truth keeping you in bondage. As I've said I'm an oyo man, I have quite some good knowledge of my people and i speak good and original oyo yoruba. Think about it, you say people called him obatala because he wore white all is life, which means obatala was his nickname; here is my question, what was is real name then?

You are not yoruba minded mr. man, your father might be Yoruba does not mean you are yoruba yourself, What do you know about your Idile, what is your oriki? it is simple to say 'I am oyo yoruba' I can say I am japanese, but without the mind I am really not. I should do research? research materials prepared by who? History is a social SCIENCE, it has methods, in this part of the world the Method is Oriki, Festival reenactment and Oral tradition...if anything of great historical weight is discussed without the use of this method, you can be sure that is just useless claim.. Nw let me tell you, I am not Arab, nor do I have blood ties with any arab of any time Obatala was also know as Oseremagbo

Well I'm happy to know you're interested in the YORUBA culture so i'm going to give you a first hand update on how it all began. The world indeed started from Ife, but of course by now you know that if the west agrees with that then the identity of Israel will be very clear so don't trust all the archeological findings. I also believe by now you have more info on the true identity of OBA TALA this I'm saying cos the account the YORUBAS have of HIM is the creation account & not so much HIS physical account. OBA TALA is YAH HASHUAH (BREATH OF LIFE THAT CREATED US as YAH is "Breath" & HA is "The" SHU is "Create or Birth" while WA is "Us") i believe many people cluelessly call HIM jesus. The missing part of the YORUBA story that you're looking for is how YAHUWA (OLUWA; OLORUN, OLODUMARE) drove out ADA AMAH (WE created clay as in "Let US!!! make man in OUR!!! own image") & AFA (WE pulled as in "YAHUWAH pulled out a rib from ADAMAH") from Eden. Much of this history is missing however due to the great flood & by the time life started proper, what you now know as Nigeria was birthed in Egypt east Africa with the people of Benin being the great Egyptian rulers. This is why many researches will point to all of Egypt being Israelites & this is why language wasn't a barrier. Ofcourse Nigeria was rediscovered when the children of Israel wondered through the Sahara desert (Which as you rightly said wasn't a desert then) & while some of them went back to Nigeria, some pressed on to the promised land. Years later, the Queen of SHEBA (Lady YORUBA "SHE BA" which was really ADESHUWA, ADE standing for queen but of course if it is written this way the identity would be too clear) went in search of her people on hearing of a good report concerning those who decided to press on to the promised land. When she found them, King Solomon (Shola omo Daudu Shlaomo for short) went back with her to her kingdom & this was how the Israelites who pressed on knew their way back to their source. ofcourse the map back to Nigeria was always with them & after several years of warring & desolation, the tribe of Judah (Oodua) was the last to relocate back to mother land after fleeing Israel for Europe & then from Europe after being the great conquerors, the "MOORES" The rest of course is what you see now. The Obas were able to put the missionaries in their place cos back then, the real names of the prophets were used & the obas immediately knew they were their people soon after this, some deadly transliterations took place which totally displaced the YORUBAs & don't forget the loot of our heritage & the slavery of our fathers. Have any question?

Oh! alright. What is the past that I'm mixing anything with & what's the history of other ethnic group that I've gotten wrong? Do you not know that I can take you step-by-step on a journey of all that happened from the very beginning? You must first ask, "who is this man?" I hate it when people try to refute what I have to say with western knowledge cos it's the west that confused us all. Consult an Edo elder & they will tell you the truth. I love something you had said earlier though & that is the fact that the YORUBAs were slaves in the past, slaves of the Benin people & doesn't that make perfect sense? Someone on youtube told me the Benin people came from IGI-SO so my question is, have you ever asked what that means? The land of Egypt has you know it is IGI, that's the land of the ancient Benin people & whether you believe that or not is a different story entirely. Many of the SONS of YAHUWA generated off springs & not all of them were evil. The evil ones were the ones who needed to be destroyed. Do you know who IGI-SO is? DO you know what that name means? IF you don't ask I will tell you.
