In this video, we have listed down the top 10 interesting facts about the cute little Yorkshire Terrier.
A Quick Overview:
[Group: Toy Group]
Height: 6 to 8 inches
Weight: 4 to 7 pounds
Life Span: 12 to 15 years
Oblivious to his small size (weighing in at no more than seven pounds), the Yorkshire Terrier is a big dog in a small body, always on the lookout for adventure and maybe even a bit of trouble. Yorkshire Terriers are affectionate towards their people as one would expect from a companion dog, but true to their terrier heritage, they're sometimes suspicious of strangers and will bark at strange sounds and intruders. In consideration of your neighbors, it's important to tone down their yappiness and teach them when and when not to bark.
Most small dogs have teeth issues, and your Yorkshire Terrier is no exception. Check for food remnants and cavity development periodically and clean teeth and gums at least once a week. Like other small breeds, Yorkies are also prone to severe dental disease. Because they have a small jaw, their teeth can become crowded and may not fall out naturally. This can cause food and plaque to build up, and bacteria can eventually develop on the surface of the teeth, leading to periodontal disease. Yorkies often have a delicate digestive system, with vomiting or diarrhea resulting from the consumption of foods outside of a regular diet. So feeding your Yorkie the good way is very important.
If you want your Yorkshire Terrier to have a nutritious that helps maintain its coat health, satisfies the fussy appetite and supports its healthy aging, you might as well wanna check out Royal Canin, an exclusive kibble developed to be perfectly adapted to the jaw of your Yorkie.

Same I got mine In 2001, he had awful health issues from day 1 though, and then got hit by a car when I was in 6th grade. His health issues included epilepsy and hypoglycemia. Poor thing was always drugged up and had the worst luck in life. He would have survived his car accident if while he was staying at the vet he didn’t destroy his bladder from ripping his catheter out.

@@Vijayaconsultancies make sure you walk with them a lot. Feed them modestly so they don't get food habits depending on you too much if you work. Don't give them too much water either or they throw up often too. They need a bath maybe every week and a half. The food we got was pedigree but it's a soft food for helping my dogs jaw since he's older now.

@@michaelcdarby Mine is almost 14. She's trained to be an indoor dog, though she's allowed to have fun outside too. I work, and in keeping her as comfortable as possible, I kitty litter trained her. She goes potty by herself whenever she needs to, I come home and find her sand 'castles and doodles' and she gets her treat!! Very smart breed our Yorkies. She has over 30 toys and knows the names of each one, if she's asked to bring a particular one. Her best buddies are stuffed toys almost her size that look like puppies. One caveat--she goes absolutely berserk if she gets a RED ball. Anyone else have this problem? All other colored balls are neutral--just red balls! I believe dogs see colors because of this. Great memory, very gentle and loving. She's my 'Velcro Dog'. 🐶 Very vocal, and has learned a large vocabulary--i have to SPELL things out that I don't want her to hear. Extremely obedient and respectful of me and my things. Very compassionate. Pays off when you train from a puppy and teach every day. As most Yorkies, she has a touchy digestive system and has pulled the puke element on various occasions during her lifespan. Excellent teeth because I brush them every day. Bones are great. Fed grain-free since she was two, so no weight problems. Hearing is finely going though. Eyesight and mentality still good. She plays like a puppy. Very agile. She's my little angel. I wish all Yorkie owners a long companionship with their furry kids. 🐶🥰🙏👍

Lol I think I got a broken one. I love him but he is no fun he won’t play and if you try to play he barks until you stop. If anyone try’s to wrestle around or yell in my house he is like the fun police lol he goes crazy. He reminds me of an old man that hates the neighborhood kids on his lawn and he sprays them with the hose if they try to play it on it. He also hates other Dogs. He has the funniest personality on a dog. I had rats in my yard and one ran right by his face and he had not a care in the world he just ignored it like not my problem. He likes when I mess with him and pinch him and pull at him but he won’t play back but he will cry if I stop it’s so funny I’ll really get him pinch at him and pull him around it can’t feel good and I get bored after a bit and stop because he won’t play back and he cry’s like “no”!

I call my Yorkie the velcro dog because she follows me wherever I go. She loves squeaky toys and to play fetch with them but cannot seem to play with them on her own, she insists I play with her. I brought her home when she was two months old, she just turned two years old, has blonde hair, and is a little over six pounds. She still sometimes messes in the house when she feels like it or is too busy to go on her potty pad. Punishing her does not change this habit, although she does respond to verbal praise when she goes potty on a potty pad. Potty training is never ending with a Yorkie, they seem to have a stubborn streak about that. They say Yorkies are yappy dogs, but my dog only barks when she hears a noise outside, even when I can't hear it, she is always right about something going on outside. She never barks when she goes out with me. She loves to sleep with me and must always cuddle up right next to me, but she also likes her crate to sleep in when I need a break but only if she has her blankie and she knows I am nearby. She sleeps a good 8 to 9 hours each night. Yorkies are not a dog to be left alone for any length of time, they do best with someone who is always home. They will cry if they are alone, become depressed, and have bad dreams. A Yorkie crying will break your heart it is so soft and mournful. My Yorkie's favorite food is chopped-up beef and rice for breakfast, the Wellness brand Tender Bites dry dog food during the day, and small cans of Merrick Lil' Plates Grain Free Small Breed Dog Food for dinner. It took me quite a while to find the food she would eat as she would rather starve than eat food that doesn't smell good to her, she would not even taste those, and there were a lot of them that ended up in the garbage disposal. She also loves to chew on beef Bully Stick Spirals and Newman's Own Beef Jerky for Dogs. My Yorkie is very social because I take her wherever I go. She loves to go grocery shopping with me and wants to stand up in the child seat so she doesn't miss a thing. She loves people and would kiss them all if she could. She knows her commands such as sit, lay down, stay, come, shake hands, although if she is busy playing or we have company she doesn't always respond, only when she feels like it. I put her in her crate until she can be polite and listen again. She gets brushed usually every other day because she still has her long hair. Treats don't win her obedience but praise does. If you're looking for a small dog who will love you no matter what you do, in fact a Yorkie will adore you. If you're busy a Yorkie will sit and just stare at you waiting patiently until you can join her again in play or rest. Even if she isn't sleepy if I lay down she will lay down with me and fall asleep with me because that's what I'm doing. I am a senior citizen and do not move around easily anymore, but my Yorkie doesn't seem to mind, she matches my slow speed on purpose so she can stay with me. She knows that I love her and am doing the best I can.

Amen! My Maddie, a rescue Yorkie from Key West is the best companion EVER! I’m 75, she’s 12, great health, and we trained her to be a therapy dog since PT has become my middle name! In KW she went everywhere with me an friends would come and take her with them, and she was the hit everywhere! We were included in the many festivities on the island until Hurricane Irma hit, devastating my life there. My friend asked me to come to AZ to live. Nothing to do, boredom’s our life now. No tricycling, no parties or parades or friends... not a pet friendly place AT ALL. We exist out here, but the probability of another Cat 5 hurricane and the increased cost of living has killed our thoughts of return home... My Yorkie is my life’s love! Loyal, joyful, jovial, caring, faithful-all the good things♥️

Our precious baby is a rescue from a puppy mill where she was grossly abused. Her poor feet had to stand on chicken wire cage so she still hates anyone messing with them. She bonded with my husband and is now a therapy companion and the BEST thing is she alerts me at night when my husband stops breathing! She is an amazing precious soul. The fur babies who suffered the most seem to appreciate the love and great treatment the most.

We rescued our female yorkie 3 years ago. Right after we brought her home we almost lost her. Then again a year later. The vets never could figure out why each of her organs began to fail but, they treated her with love and support and she made it through both times. When we got her from the shelter she was named PBJ. After her first recovery, we changed it to "Pretty Tough Jezzi" (Jezzi for short). We loved her so much, 2 years later we got Toby. He is such a character. I never saw a dog that lays on the floor while drinking out of his dish. He loves to pounce on Jezzi like a frog to get her to play. Squeaky toys don't last a single day in our house. Toby uses his front teeth to nibble through whatever it's made of in order to get to and destroy the squeaker. He is what most people would refer to as "all boy"; snakes and snails...he's brought them all in to us as gifts, and he loves to army crawl under our deck to chase whatever he might find. His funniest antic though is chasing the neighborhood squirrel when it gets in his yard. We have a doggy door. In the morning the squirrel sits on the corner of the deck eating his acorns. Toby charges out through the door at full speed and flies off the deck onto the grass 2 ft below, never seeing the squirrel sitting there (probably laughing at Toby as he flies past like Under Dog). Our yorkies have brought so much love and enjoyment to our lives. They're the best!

My wife and I have 3 Yorkers. T-Rex, Thor and Bear. We had our rescue baby girl for 6 wonderful years but lost her back in Mar this year. She was a Daddy’s girl through and through. Spent two years in combat zones and that was easier than losing her. So much of this video is true. This breed is amazing. You do have to be careful of their personalities though. They become VERY possessive of Mom & Dad. And yes everyone of them think they’re 125 lbs Rottweilers.

I have a female Yorkie who is 3 years old. She’s such a character!!! She thinks she’s big and tough so I call her the mini Rottweiler. She defends me with all she’s got. I’m lucky that she’s not a barker and when she does I immediately tell her no with a stern voice. She follows me everywhere and hates to be alone so I have a sitter come for 2 hours in the morning and afternoon to play and walk her. Plus I have nanny cams to see her and talk to her while I’m at work. She hates swimming. We’ve placed her in the heated pool, regular pool and moderately heated jacuzzi and she still hates it. Oh she also hates to step in snow. She makes a face and will refuse to move so I have to pick her up. I always thought that I needed a big “manly” dog, yet this tiny pooch has invaded my heart. I love my Yorkie named Lola.

My Yorkie “Scrappy” is a found on the street dog that was chipped, but the original owner declined to pick him up, so we adopted him. He loves to sleep upside down, and can be found either on top of, or usually under a pillow or blanket. He’s a great little watchdog, and you can tell what he’s barking at by the tone of the bark. My son-in-law found him, and was supposed to be my wife’s dog, well he pick me as his pack leader, and is with me constantly. The strange thing about him is that he’s not a lap dog, but occasionally, on his time, he’ll lay next to my leg in my chair.

He barks at other dogs on TV and does watch tv with us sometime. We get a kick out of that. He tries to climb trees going after squirrels and chases every chipmunk he comes in contact with. I would recommend one to any older couple.

My Jeter loves unscrewing water bottle tops. He’s not happy until he even gets the ring around the top. I used to put treats in there to keep him occupied as a puppy until he figured it out. I’ve had cats my whole life due to a very demanding job. Now that I’m retired, my patients dog had puppies and this one lil guy stole my heart! Never felt this much love towards an animal. Don’t get me wrong, I love my cats. But as you all know, dogs show and give more love than imaginable! My mom has his sister princess and they are 2 totally different personalities. Just pure love!!! God blessed me with this beautiful, perfect best friend, and I’ll never be more grateful! He’ll be 6 in a couple of months, and I pray everyday that he lives a very long time. I just can’t picture life without my heart, Jeter. Stay safe and well everyone!

Our Yorkie is 15 going on 16 in August. I met him 5 years ago. My husband has had him since he was a 6 months old. I’ve always had large dogs so he was definitely a change for me. Before I read and saw videos on Yorkies (like this one), I noticed all the traits mentioned. He also suffers from seizures but being treated with potassium bromide, his seizures are under control. He’s definitely a daddy’s boy with Napoleon complex. He used to only bark at us when we hugged but now that he’s older and grouchier, he barks when we are 3ft apart talking. We still love him very much.

I grew up with German Shepherds so, naturally, I had a preference for big dogs until I got my little baby Bella. She is 3 years old and had puppies a few months ago. She is very spoiled and absolutely loves my boyfriend. She smiles whenever he comes over and gets grumpy/jealous whenever he plays with the pups, it’s quite funny to watch. She jumps off the bed and leaves the room if they’re on my bed lol. She is a cuddle bug for sure. She always needs to have contact with me while she sleeps, maybe to help keep her warm since she doesn’t like being under the covers. If I stay in bed until noon, she will too. She sleeps crazy, but my favorite position is when she’s on her back and sticks her front paws straight up in the air like a little statue. I absolutely love her with all my heart, and I can’t imagine my life without her. I’m 22 years old so I’m hoping I have her for a very, very long time 💖

My Yorkies name is Joe... He's almost 18, he's mostly deaf and blind, dementia and has about six tumors (non cancerous) and sleeps about 21 hours a day. ( Still has all his teeth, which are clean and healthy) In all his years we've never been apart for more than an hour or so. I know he still thinks about and loves me because he will be in a deep sleep, dreaming and all of a sudden wake up from that dream and crawl up to my face and start kissing me. I can't imagine life without him, when that day comes I feel like I would just want to go with him.

We have 2 female Yorkies. The personality these girls each has is hilarious. I never thought I would want a little dog. I used to think of them as hairy rats. But no one ever told them they are little dogs. We had a 110lb male who's momma was a floozy, he had at least 5 different breeds flowing thru him. When we first brought Evie (12), our first Yorkie, home she could be held in one hand. We were a little concerned at how Scotch would respond to her. He adored her. And she was NEVER afraid of him. When they would play he would hold the toy in his mouth and stand up. She'd try to jump for it. But after just a few mins she went to his back legs and bit one of them. He dropped the toy and she'd run on the side she didn't bite, grab the toy while he tried to bark at her and she took off. So proud of herself. We laughed about it for years. They ended up being an old married couple. She would sleep beside him until he started snoring then she would jump up onto our bed and go to sleep. Duchess (10), our second Yorkie is a couple years younger than Evie. After 8 years, she finally accepted my husband as backup snack bi?$& if I am gone. Their personalities couldn't be more different. You can tell exactly what they are thinking by their expressions and their eyes. It will be very sad days when they join Scotch in heaven, but I am so thankful we took a chance on these 2 hairy rats. We adore them both completely.❤

Thank goodness he scared the bear away. I don’t ever want to have an encounter with a bear again. I live in Maine, USA. Oh, and the day before he caught a chipmunk 🐿. Because of the breed’s teeth issues, he has no teeth so the chipmunk got away. No animals were hurt in this encounter. 😂😂😂

I've got a little Yorkie myself, he's a purebred miniature Yorkie named Connor. He's my best friend and the biggest diva. He cries all the time for attention and is a very social dog. He's protective of me usually, and when I tell you hes attached to me the most, he's glued to me. Even if he's protective, he's usually never aggressive, except with younger kids that treat him rough and people who threaten me. He's 4 pounds of love and I'd recommend a Yorkie to any teenager or adult looking for a loyal, small dog who'll want to do everything with you.

I got my Yorkie from the pound. I was so fortunate. I’ve had him ten years and he was supposedly a year old when I got him. I call him my “ride or die.” He goes everywhere with me, he loves to walk, loves to play and he is quiet as a mouse when it is just the two of us. When we have visitors, he’s a bit nervous and barks a lot if they move around too much. I love him to pieces and can’t imagine what life will be when he is not around. I’m bracing myself for that day. Meanwhile I am enjoying him --even when he does crazy things that upset me!

Our Yorkie is named "Miss Kitty" after the character in Gunsmoke. She has the sweetest nature of any dog I've ever been around. What a joy!

I have 2 yorkie rescues and getting a 3rd this week. It is so true they are so loyal and great watch dogs. They let me know as soon as anyone is around the house. My kiddos are super spoiled.

My Yorkie passed away 1 week ago today. Went in for dental surgery and something went wrong. I miss her more than I can begin to process. She was the best funniest most spunky dog. Beautiful blonde hair. I loved how she’d cut her eyes like she was giving side eye. I’d give anything to have her back or at least 1 day with her. I miss you so much Baby Sid. Xo.
