My grand-puppy is a shorkie and he does this very same thing as this puppy while getting groomed in his face. You just gave me some insight on how to handle this. Thanks!!

I recommend spending a lot of time getting to know this breed and the specific yorkie you're looking at - I adopted one from the humane society and he was reported to have some behavior issues. Turns out these 'quirks' are probably common for the terrier breed and just something you have to understand. He was adopted once before me then returned! But I have the patience to get to know him and I'm sure some of his issues were due to the original owner babying the dog instead of treating him like a dog. It's very important to socialize little dogs with other dogs and people - otherwise, they can bark excessively! Once you earn their trust they are loyal, sharp as a tack and miss nothing, and loaded with little dog energy.

Bless you for adopting your Yorkie. I adopted my first yorkie from the SPCA and he was so perfect. He passed away at 16 in December 2023. He was my baby.

I would’ve never thought of using the diaper band to help with grooming. That’s out of the box thinking 🤔. Thanks for sharing.

He's not a wolf in Yorkie clothing So smart using the head wrap to trim his beard I will use that technique for sure! TY Suzanne and Wolfie

Great job with grooming this dog is very smart

Such a well behaved dog. My six month old yorkie is so nervous and jumpy I can barely get through her daily combing. I end up getting my husband to hold her when it’s time to do sanitary trims.

I ask the client what kind of haircut that they have in mind. After that I examine the coat and consider which blade, snap on comb , or hand scissoring technique will best achieve the request from the client. Different blades cut different coat types to different lengths. What works best comes with experience.

Hi Jean, the mats were wet from washing, so I decided on this one dog for this one appointment to skip it.

When you’re trimming the legs, how can you tell you’re not cutting too close to the skin? I was trying to cut off a knot and I accidentally cut her on the inside of the leg. Now I’m scared to scissor her. 😢

The have been grooming professionally for over 40 years. So I have developed the ability to move around the dog safely. It is easy to cut skin when cutting off a knot, because people tend to lift up the knot as they cut. The problem is that they are also lifting the skin as well. The secret is to put a comb between the skin and the knot and cut on top of the comb.
