    Just went there this past summer (2019) I went to the National Railway Museum which was amazing!!! We also went to places like The Shambles and walked along the wall But unfortunately we didn’t have time to go fully inside and pay for the tour of the Minster We walked around the surrounding park and over by the river!! If you haven’t been it’s awesome!!!

    Tourists reading the comments, take it from someone who recently moved from York and lived there for over two decades: The Wetherby Whaler chain does the best fish and chips in York, but Mister C’s in Selby, 17 miles south and 20 minutes away on a train, does the best fish and chips in the UK

  • @UltimateBucketList

    @UltimateBucketList

    It's always subjective of course, but anywhere in Yorkshire that's close to the coast generally does good fish and chips. Avoid London, they wouldn't know a fish and chip if it slapped them in the face!

    Saw all these sights and more in York just last month. There are also some very old pubs that are supposedly haunted such as the Golden Fleece, and part of a roman bath house under a pub. Me and the wife loved York so much we when back for a second time during our trip. Seriously historical overload!!!!

    Absolutely! Yes there are some really haunted places in York ... and it doesn't help that they do look like they're from the Tudor times! But glad you had a good time here ... I also have a video on Whitby Abbey that's like what you experienced in York. Be sure to check that out!

    I spent a week there in 2013. Found a cheap hotel and bought a YorkPass. It was well worth the money. In that time, I had about three excellent meals at the Golden Fleece sitting next to the skeleton at the bar. I went back the next year, but stayed in a nearby town, and did a day trip to York by train. What a fabulous place!

    Suggest you start your visit to York with the AVG (Association of Voluntary Guides). This is a completely free walking tour guide. No tips even. Tours last around two and a half hours. Open everyday except Christmas Day. 10:15 and 13:15. No need to book just make your way to exhibition square just outside of the Northern gate of Bootham Bar. Stand next to the A frame sign and a friendly trained guide will meet you there. Following the tour, you will have a basic understanding of what you are looking at, as you complete your visit.

    Nice video footage to promote the city of York in northern England. Camera quality and timing are good played. It's better slow narrative for better listening. The tastiest Drake's fish and chips filled my appetite reminding my past days visit in the city of York. The historical cool building in middle of the city Clifford tower view were magnificent. Concluding with facts great idea. I await next video and subscribed💂

    @facecrash243 жыл бұрын

    Great video, however (constructive criticism from a long term resident) ; The walls barely surround the modern city center, let alone the city itself, which although fairly low in population, extends a tremendous territory. Also, the Minster has been 'currently under reconstruction' concurrently for decades and will remain that way for a long time due to its limestone brickwork that requires constant re-masonry. Also also, the Shambles is a single street in York, not the multiple that was pictured. One of the streets (the one with my friend's uncles armory shop) is Stonegate, not the Shambles, which is on the other side of the city center. Drakes is okay, but inconsistent at best. Not all Gates have access to the rest of the wall. Correct, Clifford's tower, is pretty mundane, and not really worth it. Just prior to the pandemic, we had a Shakespearean Globe Theater behind the tower which was good. The best parts of York are; 1) There are literally hundreds of pubs and restaurants, which is significant for such a small city center. 2) The riverside is wonderful and if you want, you can follow it all the way from Fullford to about 10 miles out of the other side of the city (Roughly 16 Miles in total). 3) The history is incredibly dense and rich. For example, York was once the capitol of England, the biggest viking trading city outside of Dublin and London and immensely important to the Romans as both a regional power point and staging post for escapades more Northern. Honestly, I've lived her roughly 13 years and still have lots to learn about its history.

    Thanks bro. In short: you're correct on all of those, but for ease of presentation - I've omitted several of these details. Remember, this is a travel guide video and geared towards tourists, not residents. That said, some of what I said is subjective opinion (i.e. Drake's) - which I suggest as part of my experience there, not necessarily what is objectively true.

    There's no public bike hire facilities like you'll find in London (where they're already on the street and all you have to do is pay using an app). If you do want to hire a bike, you'd probably have to go to a bike shop and do it that way.

    I think if you're a worshipper it's free. They open up the Minster for prayers and it's free to go inside if you tell then you're there to pray, but you're kept in a certain area/chapel away from the tourists if that makes sense?
