Kahalani had nothing to do with infantry - he was a tankist. In the Yom Kippur War he commanded the 77th tank battalion - though his unit was far from complete. That said, his unit destroyed over 300 Syrian tanks. ...moreover, the battle in Sinai was never progressing better than that against Syria - both fronts were on the brink and in dire straights. Min. 19.50 ish - NO TANKS were transferred from Sinai to the Golan. The opposite is true. Israel finished off Syria after many casualties and bitter fighting and then transferred tanks to Sinai. Whomever wrote this documentary did not have the basic facts. This documentary needs some work.

I visited the Israeli tank museum once in Latrun. An older guy was a volunteer and answering questions that day. In all seriousness, I asked him why the Israelis did so well in their wars and his reply was a pretty matter of fact, "The only reason we did so well in those wars was that we were fighting Arabs. If we had fought anyone else, we'd have lost." I was a bit taken aback at this statement but as I looked into it more, I realized that while his racist statement is pretty common in Israel, he wasn't wrong. In the end, the Arab caste system that separates officers from enlisted by a huge margin was really the key to all of it. What I learned in my three visits to Israel was that the Arabs were led by brutal regimes that treated their soldiers poorly, paid them poorly, gave them little to no benefits, and used conscription. Under those conditions, led by selfish and entitled officers who had very little respect for them, made for very low morale when the casualties mounted. The officers, who actually had a lot to lose as they were mostly politically appointed, didn't have the stomach or motivation either once the dying started on the battlefield. So they abandoned their troops or led so far from the safety of the rear that the poorly motivated conscripts had very little communication amongst each other and to them, it looked bad, so they ran. The professional NCO's and a few outstanding officers in the Arab armies are all that really saved them from total collapse. Contrast that with the IDF and they were mostly volunteers, all fighting for their very lives and homeland. Backed up by a professional officer corps and first-rate equipment and training. They knew exactly what they were fighting and dying for and losing wasn't an option. They say an enemy is most dangerous when it's cornered and the Arab armies cornered the IDF hard but had no plan to overcome that with anything but numbers.

Actually, I was watching a couple of documentaries about the Iraqi army in 1973 war. It lasted from the 10th of October to the 22nd of October and they won many battles and they were able to deter the attack on Damascus. Many Iraqi officers said when the Israelis first saw them they ran away and even left their tanks. I can give you the link to the videos but it is Arabic. Besides, the Israelis are most likely have lied about their losses. The iraqi Airforce also participated in the Sinai front and Iraqi pilots were one of the first to launch the attack on the Israeli HQs and SAM sites. It's very known that if the Iraqis didn't join the war, Damascus would have been lost to the Israelis.

They did not stop them but they managed during the last phase of the war to bring more than 15,000 men to damascus and its vicinity between troops, armored units,... and the iraqi government at the time pressured to soviets to stop the israelis, no need to mention that the syrian command at the time refused to push with the arab forces on its territory, something that many baa'th members ( the ruling party in syria and iraq at the time) would later on reveal, as some syrian officials feared the growing strength of the arab forces on its territory and the rivalry it had with some other regimes, mainly jordan in the south ( after the war of 1970) so it refused to commit forces to their offensive.

They did technically win in a more tactical and politcal way We destroyed the israeli military and forced them to run to the USA for reinforcements and support We liberated small parts of sinai and golan heights The Israeli military command admitted that they were humiliated and should have been able to destroy both countries The war is considered a turning point in the Arab-Israeli conflict. It demonstrated that Arab states could challenge and inflict significant losses on Israel, which had enjoyed a series of military victories in previous conflicts. This shift in the balance of power was seen as a victory in terms of altering the perception of Israeli invincibility. The Yom Kippur War led to diplomatic and political gains for the Arab states. The conflict prompted international attention and involvement, leading to initiatives for negotiations and peace talks. This included the United Nations Security Council Resolution 338, which called for a ceasefire and negotiations to achieve a just and lasting peace in the region. The Israeli military faced heavy casualties and had to mobilize reserve forces to reinforce their positions. In the first few days of the war, Israel struggled to effectively respond to the Arab offensive. The situation was particularly critical on the southern front, where Egyptian forces crossed the Suez Canal and established a bridgehead in the Sinai Peninsula.

After some time these three bullies tried to take him down again but this time the kid struck first and they were severely beaten leaving their things for the kid to take. For the third time, they struck at the kid while was praying, but although they managed to beat him at first the kid fought back and defeated them again even chasing the biggest bully to his house. As time passes they dare not attack him again, but throw stones at him hiding behind the skirts of women and children and complaining every time he struck back.

A few interesting bits not really mentioned in this video: *The Syrian commandos taking over the mount Hermon outpost was actually devastating for Israel. That outpost is mainly used by the Israeli intelligence which is bad enough, but one military intel soldier who was captured knew A LOT about all sorts of Israeli operations & he broke before the Syrians even had a chance to begin torturing him - spilling EVERYTHING he knew. The other Israeli POWs - all of which were being regularly tortured, actually tried to have him killed to shut him up, until the Syrians separated him. Israel spent years scrapping operations & changing methods because of it. *Zvika Force - Zvika, a young Israeli officer in the 188th armored brigade spent 20 hours holding the line mostly with just his tank, during the initial Syrian push, while Israel was fighting a delaying battle until the reserves arrive. When his tank was knocked out, he switched to another tank & continued fighting. He called himself on the radio Zvika Force, in order to make the Syrians think they're facing a larger force. His tanks took out dozens of Syrian tanks during the battle. After the war he won the Heroism award - the highest military award in Israel. *The naval arena - while in the 1967 war the Israeli ground forces & air force performed brilliantly, the navy kinda blundered and as a result they made some serious changes between the wars. in 1973 the first 2 struggled, but the Israeli navy completely dominated the seas. This war actually saw both sides using surface to surface missiles & culminated in the battle of Latakia, which saw the Israeli navy attacking the Syrian port town, sinking naval ships & installations & forcing the Syrian navy to remain bottled up until the end of the war. *Outcome - part of the reason the Arabs celebrate the 1973 war, is that it was considered a disaster in Israel, which is not reflected in the videos. There was an intelligence failure in predicting the war & gauging the capabilities of the new Soviet made weapons used by the Arabs, which changed the battlefield, forcing the Israeli army to adapt mid war & change it's tactics. As well as the Israeli reservists being badly equipped. The casualties, close to 3000 KIA were disastrous in Israeli terms. There was a lot of public anger following the war & a committee was formed to study the failures during the 1973 war & how to correct them going forward. Mind you that the Arab outcome was far worse, though... As a side note, Israel & Syria are in a state of cease fire, not peace, as mentioned in the video. However, following the war Israel & Egypt did sign a peace treaty, with Egypt becoming the first Arab state to make peace & recognize Israel. Which is interesting, considering they were Israel's most powerful enemy & the driving force behind the previous 2 wars.

We were on equal grounds in progressiveness with Egypt, Iraq, less than Lebanon, equal to Tunisia, Libya, Morocco and Algeria...and even that doesn't imply advancement as some would consider progressiveness as weakening and demoralizing, in contrast to strict religious doctrine which would work greater in war

A collectors dream, except that they've been wrecked by shells from Centurions. The sight of Israeli Merkava tanks parked up on the hillsides of the Purple Line is very impressive. They won't be caught napping ever again. The Golan is a prosperous farming region now, as it was before the Romans expelled all the Jews. The original olive trees of the ruined Jewish town of Gamla are still growing strong almost 2,000 years later. It's well worth a visit but if you see a sign saying " Danger: Mines " , believe it.

an interesting detail about the war that was revealed only a few years ago (release of 1973 recordings) - the israeli cabinet (including former commanders responsible for successes in 1967) was extremely pessimistic and wanted to reach armistice asap, while the idf high command was reluctant and dismissive and continued the counter attacks

Well, the '73 war caught the Israelis pretty much off guard. The Syrians and Egyptians had done their prep work well and for the most part, their initial attacks we also well planned and executed. The Israeli reserve plan called for 24-48 hours to fully muster but much of it was accomplished in less than 12. When the plan starting to go a little different, the arabs couldn't figure out how to take back the initiative. In the Valley of Tears (I've never, ever heard it called the Vale before) there was once six Israeli tanks facing off against 150 Syrians. And when 30+ of the Syrian tanks were destroyed, they gave up even though only 2 Israeli tanks were left. Your enemy will always make mistakes so your plans have to be versatile enough to take advantage of them. Trying to follow some stupid time chart to the letter has never, ever worked out in war.

Growing up in Israel, we were always honest with ourself and admitted, in the classroom and in the media, the disaster of YOM KIPUR October 1973 war, as opposed to our amazing victory of 1967. We say the reason for the disaster was our light-headness after 1967 victory: a self delusion. Yes we are strong, but we were wrong to disrespect the enemy after his defeat in 1967, and say we are invincible, and if the Arabs attack again they will surely lose. That made us loosen our guard. My parents, who lived between 1967 and 1973 (my father fought as an infantry in the Golan heights in 1973) say all of Israel, civilians, government, education system, army and media were in a state of Euphoria. Yes, we won in the end, due to the American air-train of weapons and ammunition (Phantom jets, m-16 rifles and more) and due to our brilliant generals and commanders, our brave, smart and disciplained soldiers (In the IDF we teach even low level commanders and officers to both obey orders and being creative and think for themselves, and take the right initiative if needed, in case there are no orders from above, instead of being robots. It makes us a much deadlier fighting force). But we sustained huge casualties and we weep for it every memorial day... Also, we didn't consider the honour-based Arab culture, in which a very strong element is "return the honour if you were defeated and lost respect. Avenge, blood for blood" (absurdly they don't speak about it out loud, they don't like it to be famous among westerners, but it's very real: for example, in murder cases in Arab society, a chain of "blood vengeance" in which every side's family suffer a kill in turn, is very common. And it is the same in inter-country politics. Also, due to Arab initial success, and Israel's geographic structure, we are always "with our back to the sea". Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. In this situation, people fight fiercely. Add the fact we suffered genocide in the Holocaust, and we absolutely won't let it happen again. Lastly, an ironic fact: indeed, a major reason for Israeli loses in 1973 was the innovative and sophisticated Soviet-Russian military technology given to the Arab armies. The irony is that after the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991, loads of Jewish-Russian people were finally allowed to immigrate to Israel. They brought with them the high quality adducation, and values of disciplane and excellancy from the Soviet school system, and gave those values to their children. Today, in Israel, Jewish-Russian ex-Soviet immigrants and their children are top of the military engineers, creating excellent weapons for Israel, just like the excellent Russian weapons provided to the Arabs in 1973. Their education of children, for bravery and moral behavior makes a large part of the IDF elite units to be composed of ex-Soviet immigrant's children. And they are also prominent businessmen in the high-tech industry, due to high emphasis on math and science in the children's education. TODA ACHIM YEHUDIM RUSIM YEKARIM , spasiva, droogs! תודה אחים יהודים רוסים יקרים! :-) 🇮🇱❤️

It's quite amazing how the Arabs lost wars after wars against Israel (Of course they were well trained and had a better understanding of the terrain). It is totally embarrassing for Syria not to have totally defeated the Israeli defenders at Golan heights with such large army military and armaments; it was very small strip land they had to go through and take over. Instead Israel forced Syrians to fight in Syrian territory went unbelievably close to Damascus ! All the 4 Arab-Israeli wars were more than humiliating for the Arabs, The wars were like early Islamic Conquests Israel ! Winning wars after after against better equipped n trained armies of large well established Empires of the region ! Arab ineffectiveness even stunned the Arabs themselves, it became worse when Iraq failed to capture Khuzestan in it's Iranian invasion for 10 long years !

"We have offered them (the Arabs) a sensible way for so many years. But no, they wanted to fight. Fine! We gave them technology, the latest, the kind even Vietnam didn't have. They had double superiority in tanks and aircraft, triple in artillery, and in air defense and anti-tank weapons they had absolute supremacy. And what? Once again they were beaten. Once again they scrammed [sic]. Once again they screamed for us to come save them. Sadat woke me up in the middle of the night twice over the phone, "Save me!" Atrocities against Israeli prisoners Syrian atrocities Syria ignored the Geneva Conventions and many Israeli prisoners of war were tortured or killed.[367] Advancing Israeli forces, re-capturing land taken by the Syrians early in the war, came across the bodies of 28 Israeli soldiers who had been blindfolded with their hands bound and summarily executed.[368] In a December 1973 address to the National Assembly, Syrian Defense Minister Mustafa Tlass stated that he had awarded one soldier the Medal of the Republic for killing 28 Israeli prisoners with an axe, decapitating three of them and eating the flesh of one of his victims. The Syrians employed brutal interrogation techniques utilizing electric shocks to the genitals. A number of Israeli soldiers taken prisoner on Mount Hermon were executed. Near the village of Hushniye, the Syrians captured 11 administrative personnel from the Golan Heights Force, all of whom were later found dead, blindfolded, and with their hands tied behind their backs. Within Hushniye, seven Israeli prisoners were found dead, and another three were executed at Tel Zohar. Syrian prisoners who fell into Israeli captivity confirmed that their comrades killed IDF prisoners.[371] A soldier from the Moroccan contingent fighting with Syrian forces was found to be carrying a sack filled with the body parts of Israeli soldiers which he intended to take home as souvenirs. The bodies of Israeli prisoners who were killed were stripped of their uniforms and found clad only in their underpants, and Syrian soldiers removed their dog tags to make identification of the bodies more difficult.[372] Some Israeli POWs reported having their fingernails ripped out while others were described as being turned into human ashtrays as their Syrian guards burned them with lit cigarettes.[373] A report submitted by the chief medical officer of the Israeli army notes that, "the vast majority of (Israeli) prisoners were exposed during their imprisonment to severe physical and mental torture. The usual methods of torture were beatings aimed at various parts of the body, electric shocks, wounds deliberately inflicted on the ears, burns on the legs, suspension in painful positions and other methods."[374] Following the conclusion of hostilities, Syria would not release the names of prisoners it was holding to the International Committee of the Red Cross and in fact, did not even acknowledge holding any prisoners despite the fact they were publicly exhibited by the Syrians for television crews.[375] The Syrians, having been thoroughly defeated by Israel, were attempting to use their captives as their sole bargaining chip in the post-war negotiations.[376] One of the most famous Israeli POWs was Avraham Lanir, an Israeli pilot who bailed out over Syria and was taken prisoner.[377] Lanir died under Syrian interrogation.[133][378][379] When his body was returned in 1974, it exhibited signs of torture.[378] Egyptian atrocities Israeli historian Aryeh Yitzhaki estimated that the Egyptians killed about 200 Israeli soldiers who had surrendered. Yitzhaki based his claim on army documents. In addition, dozens of Israeli prisoners were beaten and otherwise mistreated in Egyptian captivity.[380] Individual Israeli soldiers gave testimony of witnessing comrades killed after surrendering to the Egyptians, or seeing the bodies of Israeli soldiers found blindfolded with their hands tied behind their backs. Avi Yaffe, a radioman serving on the Bar-Lev Line, reported hearing calls from other soldiers that the Egyptians were killing anyone who tried to surrender, and also obtained recordings of soldiers who were saved from Egyptian firing squads. Issachar Ben-Gavriel, an Israeli soldier who was captured at the Suez Canal, claimed that out of his group of 19 soldiers who surrendered, 11 were shot dead. Another soldier claimed that a soldier in his unit was captured alive but beaten to death during interrogation.[381] Photographic evidence of such executions exists, though some of it has never been made public. Photos were also found of Israeli prisoners who were photographed alive in Egyptian captivity, but were returned to Israel dead.[380][382] The order to kill Israeli prisoners came from General Shazly, who, in a pamphlet distributed to Egyptian soldiers immediately before the war, advised his troops to kill Israeli soldiers even if they surrendered. They also defeated the mongol empire many times in Syria when the rest of the world was struggling to beat them, the modern Arab militaries are very corrupt and used only as poltical tools.

Waiting for it impatiently but it is still a very tough subject since there is no consensus around the rationale behind many of its events.

I and all Syrians were taught that the 1973 war was a win. Just because we got this ridiculous thin UN strip back in 1974. A regime that cannot govern/manage a fucking barn cannot fight a war with one of the strongest armies in the world. Authoritarians only care about their seat, Asad would have done anything to stay in power after this loss. Yet someday, I believe we will win the Golan back, once Syria becomes democratic and stands on its feet, with politics or war.
