The USA was never told about the plan by France and the UK. The USA was very angry and worried that the USSR would get involved, because both the USSR and USA had been trying to court Egypt. The USA built infrastructure and shipped tons of wheat to Egypt every year. The USSR shipped tons of weapons and trained Egyptian officers. Egypt was a strategic country that controlled a major artery to world trade. Both the USA and USSR didn't want France and the UK involved so they both demanded the UN stop the conflict

Maybe such actions seem to be a good idea for national security, but they create a dangerous precident. The same logic Israel used to millitarily attack iranian atomic facilities, could be used for attacking the ones in Israel, since we know by now that Israel used and probably still uses those to build nukes.

Its called business. He worked as an LPG salesman so had nothing to do with resource extraction. If not you can be directed to my previous comment where I state that my grandad did nothing wrong, he was not some imperialist he was just working abroad for an oil company that operates all over the world. You then wished him dead, Die in a fire. As for “muh history, muh colonialism” I have studied the British empire as part of my A levels. Nice attempt to compare the Spanish empire to the British though under the label of “European colonialism”. Its a lot more complicated than “redcoat man bad”.

2 key things you didn't discuss here. Firstly, future Canadian PM Lester B. Pearson was the one who formulated the ceasefire and was subsequently awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his actions. Secondly, one of the sticking points of the ceasefire was that the Straits of Tiran were not to be blocked again under any condition. Egypt violated that in April 1967 to close Israel off from the Red Sea, effectively setting the casus belli for the Six Day War two months later.

The other thing is that Nasser only blocked the Straits, because of disproportionate Israeli attacks in the Golan Heights.

I feel Kings and Generals should bring out the fact that both superpower at the time were angry with UK, France and Israel for invading Egypt. Soviet premier Nikolai Bulganin warned that the Soviet Union was ready to fire nuclear-armed ballistic missiles at Britain, France and Israel unless those nations withdrew. Equally shocking was the reaction of the United States. Eisenhower and Secretary of State John Foster Dulles threatened economic sanctions against Israel if it failed to withdraw from the Sinai. It also threatened Britain’s oil supply (Saudi Arabia did embargo Britain and France) and considered selling off British bonds, which would have devastated the British economy. A UN resolution, spurred by the United States, called for a ceasefire and withdrawal of foreign forces.

I've always believed that Egypt should have sided with the USA after 1952....none of this would have happened. We had a narcissist son of a ***** ruling the country with a bunch of wannabe- uneducated officers and they introduced the concept of nepotism in Egypt. This concept ultimately ruined the country and its army. Brigadier generals were assigned according to their loyalty and not according to their qualifications. Shortly after that, all of Egypt was being assigned jobs accordingly and the country fell into dismay and chaos. A very sad but true documentary.

20quid Dude, Brexit has very little to do with Britain wanting to rule the world. There are various factors, but overall, the people who voted to leave, wanted UK independence from EU. People in Brussels making laws for Britain didn’t sit right with many people, the handling of the refugee crisis didn’t help that either. Many people also just wanted to send a message to parliament and the government, since they felt that those higher ups stopped paying attention to their demands anymore. And the Brexit issue has highlighter the many problems in the inner workings of UK parliament, which citizens wanted to change.

@Marcelo Henrique Soares da Silva It's not about the size of the military or its quality, but rather about how you can leverage it for your political benefits. There was a time the US wouldn't face any serious opposition in most areas by any other power, either by itself or by proxy.- when after the fall of the USSR , both Russia and China could not project their power either economically, politically or militarily outside a limited region. Things have considerably changed since, and considering Russia seems to be on route to getting two of its chief goals completed - dismantling the EU and NATO - they probably won't become better. And it matters less that you can win a battle, and more that there's the possibility of actually going into it, with its associated risks.

GB used Pasha’s inability to pay the loans to seize and colonize the country (illegal) and continued to interfere in Egyptian politics even after granting nominal independence in 1922. seizing the canal might’ve been illegal as a technicality, but nasser was fighting back against British interference in Egypt going back to the 1880s
