Israel's 'Operation Focus': Inside One of the Most Successful Air Campaigns in Military History

In May of 1967, Egypt's President, Gamal Abdel Nasser, declared war on the State of Israel, telling his followers that "our path to Palestine will be covered with blood."
Nasser moved his troops into the Sinai Peninsula, expelled UN peacekeepers, then blocked the Straits of Tiran to Israeli ships.
For Israel, it was time to strike - or be struck. And for the next three weeks, the Israel Defense Forces were on high alert.

Free Palestine. Why this Jewish state was not built in the US of America ? As of the 1930s, the Jewish population in the United States was estimated to be around 4.2 million. Meanwhile the Jewish population in British Mandate Palestine experienced significant growth due to Jewish immigration from Europe. According to historical estimates, by the late 1930s, there were approximately 400,000 to 450,000 Jews living in British Mandate Palestine. This demographic shift played a significant role in the development of the region's demographics and ultimately had an impact on the political dynamics that led to the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948. When majority of the Jews were in USA why not give them a state there its simple 4,200,000 in USA vs 400,000 in Palestine. In simple words "Why was the State of Israel not established in the United States, where the Jewish population was much larger than in British Mandate Palestine during the 1930s?" Why come and live in a place where supposedly everyone is their enemy?

The RAF is a very good service and has a similar ethos to the IAF of fielding smaller amounts of highly-advanced jets, flown by extremely experienced pilots. Both focus on quality over flooding the skies with quantity, and so a lot of the tactics carry over between nations. This and Operation Mole Cricket 19 are two of the most taught air operations. The latter was a fight between 95 IAF jets and 100 Syrian Air Force jets, backed by 30 SAM batteries. At the end of the conflict, 85 SAF planes and 29 URSSR SAM batteries were destroyed, at the cost of only 2 damaged IAF jets (that still flew back to base and were fully repaired). This was the largest air campaign in modern history.

I was in the U.S navy on a carrier and I was a mechanic for the F-18. Our lead petty officer told me about how good the Israeli air force was. Israeli success during this conflict was impressive because Egypt had an advantage in airpower until they were betrayed and then Israeli was able to not only find out the weaknesses to their enemies jet but also able to destroy all their rivals airforces and take control of the skies. Not being bias and strictly speaking about strategy this was pure genius!

I was serving with the US Army in Vietnam at the time of the 6 day war. When it started, I was in the bar at Soc Trang in the Delta. I was having a drink with an Army helicopter pilot. I was serving in the Dental Corp and told the pilot that being Jewish myself and being trained with the M16 rifle, I wish I could be in Israel to fight instead of fixing teeth. He said “ Doc, I trained at times with Israeli pilots. You know we are good right?” “You are great pilots “ I answered. I was flying medic some nights because Dust off was short medics there although I was not on flight status. “Well doc, the Israeli pilots are better than we are. Israel will win this war in a week. “ It took 6 days!

No country is perfect, including Israel, but critics of Israel who do not criticize the extremists in Gaza who have fired nearly 30,000 rockets and missiles from Gaza at civilian targets in Israel are not just hypocrites, they are undeclared anti-Semites. The continuing denial by much of Palestinian leadership of Israel's basic right to exist, and their claim of a right to use violence to destroy Israel and her people is THE reason the conflict continues. Generations of hateful violence by Israel's neighbors have been self-defeating, showing Israelis that her neighbors cannot be trusted. "Give peace a chance" is an idea that escapes those who control Israel's neighbors, producing suffering for their own people.

I was only 12 but of course remember the Six Day War. My dad had served in Burma with the Chindits who were commanded by Major-General Orde Wingate who before WW11 had served in the British Mandate of Palestine and did all he could to help the Jewish people including helping them form the Special Night Squads to fight against the Arabs. My dad loved Orde Wingate and the stance he had taken in Palestine so from that moment on aged 12 I knew who's side we were on and of course that was Israel. This video is really educational for me and just shows the absolute courage and professionalism of the Israeli Air Force. God bless them and I will certainly watch more videos about this war. It wasn't until I was 12 that I really linked the holocaust to the birth of Israel as we know it today. I was just a young English kid but this war seemed to make more sense to me than Vietnam that was on TV news every evening

It was a replay on the night of June 5th, 1944, exactly 23 years earlier. On June 5th, 1944, Adolf Hitler had a wild party somewhere, in Berchesgarden, I think. Hitler did not go to bed until 4:00 AM, on June 6th, 1944 (D-Day)! When Hitler went to bed at 4:00 AM, he did not know that American and British paratroopers had already parachuted into France, over three hours earlier! Around 6:00 AM, the German Generals discovered proof that the invasion would begin at 6:30AM, but they were afraid to wake up the Fuhrer, when he had only 2 hours of sleep. Hitler had also taken a Sleeping Pill! Hitler did not wake up until 10:00 AM, over three hours after the Allies had hit the beaches! SOURCE: "THE LONGEST DAY" By Cornelius Ryan

Remember the USS LIBERTY! June 8, 1967, 34 American sailors were killed, and 174 wounded, in a two-hour attack in international waters by the Israeli Defense Forces.

During the Battle of Britain a German airmen bailed out close to an RAF field. He was captured and taken to the base. While waiting to be taken away, a bunch of RAF pilots took him to the mess and fed him food and beers and treated him with much curiosity and respect. When the authorities arrived to take him away, the now slightly drunk German insisted on making a list of all his new RAF friends. He explained that the German Army would be occupying Britain in a matter of weeks, and he wanted to ensure his new friends were treated well by his German comrades. A noble gesture. But his new RAF friends smiled awkwardly and looked uncomfortable. They knew that if their German guest was right, that they will have failed their mission to protect their homeland, and would most likely be dead. For they were also fighting with “ no alternative.”

That whole "keep on with the job" mentality combined with the sheer quality of training is why the IDF can, time and time again, punch out against what should be unbeatable odds.

2 years after this war, the "Soccer War" between El Salvador and Honduras took place. El Salvador is the same size as Israel with the same population and the flags are similar. They also struck first with warplanes against Hondura's much bigger air force, they destroyed over 60% of the planes on the ground. An acquaintance of my father was the pilot of a Mustang P-51 and he bombed the airfield in Santa Barbara, Honduras, on the way back he was intercepted by 3 enemy planes and received a .50 cal. bullet to the shoulder and his plane crashed in Honduran territory. Armed civilians with machetes murdered him on the ground. He crashed just 5 km away from the border.

@@Hchris101 It's said that the U.S. had armed both nations since both were U.S. allies and their soldiers had been students of the "School Of The Americas". That war (1969) saw the last dogfights of WW2 P-51's against Corsairs.

@@Hchris101 I though painting up some planes in a 'quiet location' and having them attack 'a prime target' so it could be blamed on an innocent (to that event) 'party' was one that was so good the real facts should be published, but alas we get something as goofy as the original 9/11 time to chew on. Any plans on changing that flaw, it is a flaw, are NATOites aware of that??
