I mean it doesn't really matter if it's a comedic song or not. Music is music, you can't just put something on a lower pedestal just because the lyrics is not serious. So I don't think it's fair to put music and humout in opposition like "it's funny but despite that it's good" Do you expect joke songs to be bad? End of the day, that's just my oppinion.

It's 2023 and I find myself coming back to this video often because it reminds me of a nice time in my life. Always makes me smile.

I had this theory as well, but for me, the old guy was a previous mister Toot, who made the same mistake. Believing others were interested in him, and not the music.

It took me 3 years of listening to this song before I realized that Mr. Toot called himself Mr. Ibanez not because it's a cool name, but because Ibanez is a name of an electric guitar brand...

What I learned from the story: the toot is actually a evil artifact that possesses the user and corrupts them under the guise of fame and fortune. Then when the toot drains all of the good in the users soul, they turn them into a soulless husk that lost their identity. The toot is “discarded” and finds a new host.

Ok, I'm just blown away by the incredible talent here. From the singing with the accent, rolling the R's and nailing the semitones in the 4 note trills in the vocals, this is just a prime of example of how to perfectly nail a musical genre. (which I now see Ylvis has done all in each vid) But to actually nail the vibe and feel of turkish groove was totally badass. And even down to a smooth jazz midi guitar solo! damn! I'm a fan of Punjabi music so this was just a pleasure to hear! (and I'm a midi specialist, seriously he could have just used general midi #105, on a Sitar patch!) Please tell me exactly how that oud was recorded, it's awesome!

Underrated is Balkan Beat Box, who actually created the music and everybody credits this guys. Yeah yeah funny lyrics and stuff. But not big deal here. They just put the lyrics in a 2005 song. For sure, not a big deal. Balkan Beat Box - Adir Adirim is the big deal.

I was wondering that too. When I read the song title, I thought it is about Egypt because of toot ankh amoon. Then when he sang Istanbul i was surprised. The costumes and the music is Arabic. Do they think all the middle Eastern are Arabs? Or do they think that turkey is an Arabic country? 🤔

My 4 years old sister is a great fan of Ylvis and I really like his music. This song and video are great also, especially Ezan like backsound at the ends. Of course this is humor but being a Turk and living in Istanbul, I am afraid of wrong perception about Turkey among young audience. Istanbul has no relation with these scenes.

Think of it this way: You are vegetarian and have a restaurant that cooks well for you. Not the owner wats to expand and serves a lot of meat dishes and every single one of the vegetarian options disappears. He cooks wonderfully, skillfully, Beef Wellington, masterfully cut Sashimi, everything you would get at a high class restaurant. Why do you not appreciate it and eat it? You are vegetarian and while the food might taste amazing, you will still not go back to the changed restaurant, because there are only meaty options left. Here it is the same. You have the sound of that Toot instrument and people love it. Not there is this guy with an electric guitar and it is not the same anymore. It is the same cook, but the meals are completely different.

I saw hundreds of comments like "It's not İstanbul" . Hey guys, keep calm of course it's not. And this video does not claim that "It's İstanbul" Take it easy, it's a fun video, they're kidding.
