YETI Presents | River Pirates

The mission is simple: finish the race. It’s 270 miles through Texas riverways ending in the Gulf of Mexico. 270 miles that are in no way straight, that are as inhospitable as only Texas can be, and afford no time for sleeping, only paddling. It’s something that sounds so terrible it’s appealing. After all, it’s simple: finish the race. And don’t go crazy.

I was next door neighbors to JT growing up. The impact he had on my life, the stories he shared and the trust he placed in me was incredible! He is a true river pirate and should be an inspiration for all of us!

The physical endurance required to complete this race is insane... but overcoming the mental battle is what's really mind blowing. 270 miles. 2+ days. No sleep. Pure exhaustion. Paddling. Portaging. Paddling. Portaging. Pain. Suffering. JT is a master of mind control, and Lauren is an absolute badass! Hats off to them and to the YETI team on bringing crazy race and story to life ⚡🙌

I hired JT to guide me on a 3 day fly fishing red fish trip. I have fished all over the world with a number of captain and guides-many of which became friends. The 3 days I spent with JT both on and off the water were among the best. He is not only a great guide but a brilliant story teller and a truly nice person. He told me some stories about these trips among other tales and turned me onto some books that are still my favorites. People like JT make the earth a better place to live. I can only wish him the best

@@harshagav one that comes to mind immediately is Empire of the Summer Moon by SC Gwynne. It is an excellent history of the Comanche, Quanah Parker and the Texas Rangers. I know we discussed poetry including Dylan Thomas. I am sure their were others but it has been a few years ago. He is excellent company and extremely well read. We also talked fishing, canoeing, music and movies. I have fished with a number of guides and he was an excellent one-couldn’t recommend him more.

Love JT & have a lot of respect for him. This was a neat doc but let’s be real here…. “there’s no other race” EXCEPT for the Great Alabama 650 which is 2.4x as long on a far more treacherous watershed. I challenge Yeti to make a documentary on this race

Its interesting how fast they hallucinate in these conditions. I work in an inpatient psych unit and without the exhertion it takes most people about 4 days without sleep to develop visual hallucinations (usually they have been using meds, can't sleep due to auditory hallucinations or are manic). Usually we see VH when a pt is medically ill. I bet they primarily have electrolyte changes and hyperthermia (as the cause of their delirium). Its just weird that they can stay on task and primarily have the VH. Maybe the long stretches in dark conditions help explain it as well.
