Yes! You read that correctly: 5200+HP!!!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Is this the world's highest recorded power on a dynamometer?!? Andrew Alepa’s 7th gen Corvette made waves when it put down over 5200 horses on FuelTech USA’s Mainline Hub Dyno.
This record continues to amaze people still today! Let’s go a little bit deeper with Luis de Leon about that car, Pro Line Racing’s engines, 70+ PSI of boost, and the whole run and dyno used to achieve these crazy numbers powered by FuelTech FT600 and FTSPARK-8!

    I was searching for a certain race cam for an engine that I was building, found a speed shop that had the part in stock for a great price. I called to order by phone and had the deal all set up when the guy informed me that they were located in Brazil so it would be like 60 to 90 days shipping. I unfortunately drive the vehicle daily so I had to buy it somewhere that would send it within 5 days. They do have some really good speed shops. Brazil also raced a really cool class of car called cutaways. I will try to find a video but they would build low budget vr6 gti engines and all sorts of tuner cars but they cut off the whole hatch including mounting area and spare tire well, remove all doors, hood so the car is 1400lbs and then they basically race in skeletons. They run 9s with modified cut out shitboxes. Its impressive. Like holey cheese cars.

    My first thought was that there is no way the car could use close to the 5200 HP level on the track. Well, I was wrong. RVW rules state that a big block twin turbo car weigh about 2750 lbs (Duck X rules). According to well respected published calculators, a 2750# car doing 220 mph to the eighth mile needs 4567 HP! The corvette was putting down over 4500 HP on a drag radios tire. Incredible.

  • @btwbrand

    @btwbrand

    They need this power to go fast. As explained with a turbo'd engine they have to run in the heaviest class. To go 200mph in 3 seconds with a 2700 pound car you need 4500HP. This car weighs more and once they are at the end of the track they are using all of the HP the engine can make. Why so much HP? because that is what is required. How much of that is actually used..all of it.

    Turbo engines make 20-25% more power than superchargers due the amount of power the engine uses just to compress the air with a supercharger. These are not mechanical losses btw. This is why the turbo classes must run more weight that supercharged to help level the playing field, amd why all classes of motor sport, from tractor pull to f1 are dominated by turbo, where the rules allow. Turbos are banned in top fuel as the nrha doent want top fuel any faster. Steve Jacksons car was allowed to run less weight due to less power in supercharged.

    I see Steve Petty helped with tuning that Vette. Kinda tells you all you need to know. He has also been working with Justin Swanstrom and his screw blown Lexus. Complete with new paint and a new combo,...Steve appears to have that thing RRRRROLLIN'. Just watched them testing, and it looked really quick. And consistent. Big Country has always done a phenomenal job tuning Justin's car. But in the tuning world,...it doesn't get any better than Petty. He also knows how to set up a car to track straight down the track.

    Seems like the proline engines can take a ton of boost. I know hemis are great handling boost as well.. proline hemi with forced induction is a winning combo. I know of cars that are throwing 70lbs of boost every run with 0 issues (you know what I mean) incredible

    They won't run those cars that distance maybe the 1/4 but the others naa, top fuel switched from quarter mile to 1000 feet because they have reached 300+ mph speeds and literally can't stop the cars, technology has to improve things like breaks, lighter, stronger materials before it can continue

    Phil Smith NHRA ran 300mph for 16 years before switching to 1000’It was actually Scott Kalettas death the made them change the distance and it was originally just suppose to be temporary but it only took them one season to go faster in 1000’ than they did in 1320’

    I'm pretty sure but not 100% positive but I think on both tire on dynos and hub dynos they don't do full power gear changes or use 2step or Trans break due to longevity of the dyno's. They run through the gears into top gear and then do the hits from a low rpm. And like I said at the beginning I could be wrong and love being proven wrong because I love learning. But that's how I ran my 51 Chevy business coupe with a Lingenfelter 454 tweaked to the max. And every dyno video I've ever seen.
