    Where is the discussion? You all agree with each other, hilarious that you think that there even is a discussion. When the heck was Chris trotter last in a University to be able to make that completely categorical statement. It’s just wordsalad with no basis apart from that he is talking.

Many of my Labour friends who would never vote National...just because they never will! They won't vote ACT either but have determined to give Winston a go again... he cuts through all the so called "cultural war" rubbish that the old school Labour hate, Winston talks their straight talk language. @@valeriehughes1008 ACT is by far the best party to vote for right now. Personally, I'm not a centrist voter, National are trying too hard to appeal to the center and that's boring. You get no clear answers or vision by the centrist Labour/National Parties. I've been a NZF voter for the last ten-ish years since I was able to vote, but I'm definitely switching to ACT now. ACT is the smarter vote and they need all the seats at the table they can get so they can make fundamental difference in the way our next government is formed. Seymour is much smarter than Luxon and if they are able to form a government, Seymour will be able to push Luxon hard into doing a deal which favours ACT Party policy. ACT is the smarter vote.

    We need to move from woke to wake... to have a world where discussion and debate is encouraged.

  • @brucegibbins3792

    @brucegibbins3792

    5 ай бұрын

    Woke actually came from awake being aware of social injustice and has it's origins in African American culture. A slang term. Now though conveniently repurposed as a slite or a derogatory term to describe liberal views. So prevalent now in this country's media lexicon with its generally limited vocabulary and child like excitement to have themselves heard their personal opinions passed off as truths that woke is a utility buzz word. Woke's Originall meaning as been now subsumed in a rush of conservatism and discomfort in other folks opinions. In the peculiar world of today, the human rights movement of the 1960s and 70s would likely to have been thought of as being woke and certainly by the media's talking heads in more recent times. Since he made an appearance in the print media some decades past, Chris Trotters views have been well thought out, middle ground and where good sense has often calmed a turgid sea of sometimes hysterical discourse. A society being a place for all peoples, the outlayers and boundary riders would have him emasculated, being drowned in a pool of mediocrity where entrenched opinions are never challenged. The bitter pill of truth Sugar coated to make the going easier to swallow. True things need oxygen to gain support this is helped along by media explaining more than offering personal political views on how to think and often occompanied with name calling slang terms more commonly heard where ignorance and poorly formed opinions have their gestation. The world's great orators and thinkers impart their truths without hysteria and hyperbole.. It's still early days for The Platform and so it is of interest to see how The Platform develops over time. They've identified a place for themselves among the media landscape and in that are doing a pretty good job. I'm unsure how it's current soapbox or town square identity wil continue undiluted but it deserves a chance to continue its nessesery point of difference where it's prime competitor appears to be the commercial free National Radio where once Mr Plunket was once an employee. There is an alarm click radio close by set to Mr Plunket's nemesis he derisively refers to as "Red Radio" although in all the years that I've been tuned into this station I can honestly say that I've never has cause to believe there is any conection there with communism, perhaps Rural Report needs to be investigated- there's bound to be communist subversives hiding under the bed there planning a peasants revolt. The Platforms onto it so there is still some hope left for our country. The Motu is, for the moment, safe enough. I think you'll find that the folks Sean Plunket gaslights for special attention where Sean can unleashes his vitriol are mostly doing and saying what they do in support of a legitimate point of view. These folks are not rubes, but instead intelligent and articulate people. The Platform allows them a place to be further heard. So that's nice, eh. But in truth, these folks have been invited onto the killing floor where their positions are challenged not by skill, but with the ambitions of a spider catching a fly. Yet seemingly few are shaken, instead maintain decorum in the face of a breathless interigation interview style. Fair dues, most appear to press on with their response in spite of it all. Most likely to have been media trained - thank goodness for that. Who needs a sh*t fight on The Platform.

    IMO, there should be a referrendum based on a defined bill so we can all see exactly what we are dealing with. Water is NZ's principal economic asset and its stewardship must be fully accountable to the people of NZ via their elected representatives. It is democratic accountability, not the number of moko per millilitre, that is the essential issue in my view.

The Uni's know it. Be open minded and have debate, at some stage they have to grow up and conform to the commercial world, earn money or find a profession that you've studied for. It's the students who have no idea what they will do after uni and just drift, not a great investment for the countries tax.

I believe Ardern got the idea from the Canadian PM who had succeeded in doing this in Canada...it is considered to be a classic WEF policy of taking away corner stones of democracy... free press, free speech... then divide and conquer! Ardern knocked out the free press, was working hard on the free speech and she has divided us like no other time in our history with her race based policies. WEF and Labour do not like democracy! No Government must be allowed to "buy out an entire MSM" as Labour has done.... Sink or swim the media must do so on its own merits.

    This is fascinating. Chris Trotter has been hard left all his professional life but in the past couple of years he has moved to the political centre - perhaps even right of centre. A similar transformation has happened in the USA with Bill Maher. Refreshing.

    Thank you, Sean, for being the most neutral! That is something we should be grateful! Just one thought. The most typical journalist is quite extroverted and interested in being in the spotlight. Anything that leads there is good from their perspective. But, this attitude does not mean they are seeking truth. There is another type of person who intends to seek truth by all means. These people do not necessarily want to be in the spotlight. The first group is the typical journalist. The second is more leaning toward conservative people who stick to the truth first and are more sceptical about anything. It is quite natural that the media is left-leaning because people in the media are interested in being in the spotlight rather than seeking the truth. Those journalists who seek truth are closer to conservatives; it is natural in this sense.

    At the end, there was a very good point made. Politicians like minor distractions such as race, sex and sexuality, etc. For the good of the average person on the street we all need to hold our politicians accountable for what really matters to the majority. Things like housing, the cost of food, power, employment and health, oh, and also law and order. Get these things somewhat near sorted and the rest will probably improve as well. Thank you for another very interesting discussion.

I don’t know anyone that hasn’t drawn the conclusion that mainstream media are left biased and don’t appear to have any ability to provide balance reporting of events, and have zero ability to conduct fair balanced investigative reporting on pretty much any issue. A very sad state of affairs - keep the pressure up Mr Plunket and friends. Is it coming from editorial policy or is it a statement of how biased our education system that educated those working in Journalism or both ?, it seems to be endemic.

    It's been like that for years. NZ media would slavishly peddle out pre-written pap from American sources instead of giving a considered opinion. The anti-police stories were a case in point and just like the American press the New Zealand press never offered a retraction when it was found the cops were in the right - the same with the story about the school boy accused of racism because he was wearing a maga hat but it turned out he and his classmates were the victims of racism that day - no real discussion about the NZ media following the lead in attacking a schoolboy based on biased information because checking the facts before publication is so last century.
