Turn Of The Century is about an artist, who in mourning for his deceased wife, seeks to bring her to life through his art/sculpture, and to be able to dance and sing as they once did all those many years before. It is simply beautiful on all levels.

Nick, when I had my cancer, I listened to Yes a lot. It did make me feel much better. It is a life-giving force. Higher power is all through their music. Blessed.

To be over is a hidden gem. I would sit in my best friends basement and listen to these albums as they came out. We'd listen to Yessongs from the beginning to the end, 1973 and yeah I'm 63. Lol

I had Going For the One on vinyl in high school and Turn of the Century made me cry then at 15yo and still does now at 58 yo.

It is impossible to listen to Yes music and not feel up lifted Even the darkest subjects will turn to hope.

Yes is my favorite band of all time. I've seen them live about 30 times, starting with the Yes Album tour when they were the opening act for Grand Funk. "Turn of the Century" is one of their masterpieces.

My favorite too. I've seen them at least 15 times since 1975.

Nick/Lex: I often get emotional watching the two of you experiencing much of the music from various artists, but the compositions of YES are simply genius. Just imagine listening to YES, Pink Floyd and ELP as a young teenager. There are many others that stand on their own merit. I honestly believe that this music is a gift. I can go on and on with commentary but will keep it simple.

Turn of The Century is a masterpiece, beautiful story of a man sculpting a statue of his dead lady and how it comes to life. Makes me cry everytime I listen to it since I was 14 back in 1978.

Couldn't agree more. Been in love with Yes since 1974 at 13 yrs old. I believe Turn of the Century is my favorite Yessong. Maybe my favorite song period. Have heard it hundreds of times, and it still gets me every single time. So beautiful.

It is based on the Greek myth of Pygmalion and Galatea... so beautiful.

As a teen, I saw them live " in the round " on a revolving stage. Jon Anderson is a magi who transports you to another dimension. He's a very spiritual and deep soul who literally creates and performs from his heart. That's what you are feeling. Enjoy the ride.

They did Sound Chaser, so that’s all that’s left. However, they said once in a vid they’d be doing ‘Soon’. I hope they don’t do it separate from all of ‘The Gates of Delirium’. It won’t have the same impact

I can remember first hearing To Be Over, when the album was released all those years ago. I thought then that it was "other worldly". hearing it now, it still sounds like that. It is so beautiful. Every passage is full of hope. Superb.

Yes was the absolute best of the 1970s prog bands. I don't care what anyone else says. I am also a huge fan of Genesis, ELP, Pink Floyd, King Crimson and Rush but Yes are in an entirely different league. Jon Anderson is truly an enlightened person. I'm not even sure if he is fully human or some magical being sent to us from beyond the cosmos to spread positive energy. I agree with Nick. If everyone listened to Yes, especially from the 70s, there would be no war. Great reaction, guys! 🙏🌞🌌🎧☯

I just never got into them or for that matter too much of Jethro Tull for that matter. Queen are an amazing band. Absolutely. There's a lot of stuff by them which I like but I wouldn't exactly call them prog. Freddie Mercury was a legend.

Right on. Jon does have an enlightened spirit that elevates the music to something special. The level of creativity and musical mastery is just amazing. I love hundreds of bands, and the ones you mention are right near the top. For me, Yes, Beatles, and Frank Zappa. I’m also looking for modern bands that impress, and they’re so hard to find. There’s: Thank You Scientist (see “FXMLDR”); Octavision, Wagakki Band (Japanese prog: “Akatsuki...”); Triangle (feat. Senri Kawaguchi, Philippe Saisse, & Armand Sabal-Lecco).

Yes are masters of their music and I am so privileged to have had them I'm in my life. I seen them tour these albums as a teenager in Scotland in the 70's...mind blowing for anyone let alone a young boy.

I wish you guys could have see Yes live in the 70's. I'll never forget the first time I saw them at MSG NY. Sold out show. When they started playing I looked my friend in disbelief, our mouths were both wide open. We couldn't believe how good they sounded. It was so much better than listening to the studio albums. Over the next 25 years I went on to see them 60 more times. They never disappointed!! There was nothing like a live Yes show!! I know people try to compare them to other groups like Rush and Styx, but to me they are so unique. That's really what drew me to them. I loved being a Yes fan! It felt special somehow. Watching you guys react to these songs really brings back great memories. Of course I've probably listened to everyone one of those songs a 1,000 times 🙂

Same here!! I couldn't have said it better. First time for me MSG NY...my YES home away from home. The Topographic Oceans tour. My friends and I were blown away. Magically perfect. They really were beyond stunning in person! Always outperformed the albums. My best friend had introduced me to YES after seeing them at Gaelic Park (maybe 1971?). He came to me as if he had discovered the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Anyway, great, beloved memories. I'm so heartened to know that others felt that same way too...and still do. 💙💚💙

I'm right there with you Phil. My first Yes show was Relayer in 76 at the Nassau Colosseum. I was still a bit too young to go by myself, but a couple of young coast guard guys took me and my best friend. Blew me open in a way there was no going back from, and set me on the course of my whole life. I was fortunate to see them dozens of times in their heyday, many of which at MSG, before I left NY. There's no comparing Yes to anyone, they're in a class by themselves. Their classic epics stand up to any of the great romantic period symphonists, and I say that as a classical fan. In fact, I'd say that the pinnacle prog of the 70's is more fully the evolution and extension of the great romantic period symphonies than later classical works are - Yes took music to an altogether new level. And the world has seen nothing like it since - best music ever made.

Tormato was one of their most overlooked and under appreciated albums. Its a kaleidoscope of different songs the uniquely blend together and should be listened to all the way through.

I love Nick's comments about Yes music making you think and feel, perhaps like no other music. That's the gist of my personal journey with Yes music. So great to see young people appreciate it as much as I have in my life.

Yes is so atmospheric! It's the most transported band there is. And Nick you are so right about Jon's voice being an instrument. Always will be my favorite band of all time!

You hit the nail on the head. Think about the odds…the odds of Jon Anderson, Chris Squire, Steve Howe and Rick Wakeman (and Bill Bruford) coming together. The loooong odds for these people to come together and to bless us with these melodic, powerful visions of how life and the universe SHOULD be viewed. Jon’s lyrics taken in and of themselves…seem notational at best…but along with the musical intonations are like impressionist art. BTW…This prog that Nick is talking about…the 5 bands…totally concur. I do throw Tull in there…as I have learned many Tull songs (as an at home Guitarist) and love that Celtic vibe.

I think they YES played their music to please us… and in doing so pleased them! It must have been so awesome to create together! I think they wanted us to sit back and listen without making a sound…. We all were in awe!! Especially live!!!

"Turn of the Century" is a Yes song that tells a story with lyrics that make sense. A beautiful love song too.

I totally agree with your comments about Jon and Chris. They are a magical duo that cannot be duplicated. These 3 works of art really are gifts to us, and I appreciate that you both hear the same things I do. Close To The Edge and Going For the One are my favorite albums. Drama is so very good even without Jon on lead vocals.

To Be Over is a song I fell in love with when I first heard it back in 1986 as a 13 year old. It is pure emotion and such tasteful and delicate sounds along the way. Steve Howe's guitar playing on that song still makes my heart quiver.

Sometimes I have a hard believing that 'Turn of the Century' is on the same album as 'Awaken'

To Be Over has never had the attention it deserves. To Be OverLOOKED is more like it. Somehow that’s ok - it feels a song just meant for me 😉. Happy to share it with you today.

Patrick Moraz did a superb job on Relayer. He never got fair treatment, because Rick came back on the next album. The Moodys later never treated him well.

3 of my favorite bands are YES, King Crimson, and U.K., and Bill Bruford played drums on all 3. Did I tell you Bruford is my favorite drummer? 🙂

The beginning of To Be Over, so slow. I'd forgotten what it turns out to be. You have to wait for it, as they say. Watching videos with you, I'm spoiled now. It's the best way to appreciate them.

Can you imagine a Yes record with Two of the greatest songs of their entire catalogue, Turn Of The Century and Awaken. Going For The One is their best record. 🤩😍 I suggest to experience the Steve Howe’s version of TOTC with the beautiful voice of Annie Haslam from Renaissance.

Back in the early 70's I had a little wildcat stereo (before I got a whole system) and I would buy every yes album as they came out and then when I got all the components I played yes all the time..so great to see you react to them .they were such a part of my life and still are but those 70's albums should be sent in to space so that the whole universe could resonate with love and beauty...keep em'.comin' my rocky mtn friends..much love Kent.

I knew instantly upon first listening to YES that their compositions would long outlive the artists themselves. Like the greatest composers, YES will be admired for centuries!!!

So wonderful to see how you enjoy this music together that reaches your ears for the first time. Would love to go back 49 years to when I first put this album on.

I am 69 years old and still listening to this band, I remember waiting outside the record store for the first album...I have seen Yes 37 times over the years and met every single personnel line-up after the gigs. My kids grew up with yes, and now my 21 year old granddaughter is a huge Yes fan.

Sometimes the beauty resides in the space between the notes.

Great thought! I love the spaces in To Be Over. They're like extra spaces...or hesitations in the rhythm. There are several of them. During this listen to this song I really noticed how much I love those. They add drama to the music. I've been thrilled by this song since 1977. It's probably in my top 5 favorite Yes songs.

"Turn of the Century", transports me to the deepest part of my soul, is in my top 5 Yes songs.

LOVE ALL 3 OF THOSE SONGS. Ive seen Yes in concert about 40 times and they are incredible. There will never EVER be another band like them. RIP White and Squier.... FYI - the greatest YES live recording is 1979 Wembley Arena - its called Ten True Summers Long. check it out.... THE BEST!!!!

One could argue that some of the greatest classical composers were overindulgent, yet we couldn't imagine the musical landscape without them. The same goes, at least for me, with YES.

OMG Mark was really going for maximum tearful euphoria on this marathon. To Be Over has been on my possible Requests list. It's like the plastic bag scene in American Beauty where the boy next door says there's "so much beauty in the world, I feel like I can't take it". It's like the revealing looks that Lex gives at 9:12 and 9:18 where she seems to say, yeah you got me. You might find some critics pan Tormato but I've always like it as well as anything else they've done. Nick, my story behind the music of Turn of the Century is that I enjoyed playing it over a big PA one day back in college for a community social event where there were older people (beautiful music choices were necessary). And afterwards my girlfriend asked me "what was that song" and I knew she got it and that I loved her more.

Another great job guys. Don't relent, there's only a couple dozen more great Yes songs to still explore. Say Yes to the Yes.

As beautiful as Turn of the Century is, I'd have to say that To Be Over is even more so. It has my favorite Steve Howe solo (including the steel guitar part at the beginning before he does the breakdown section with the Telecaster,) and the keyboard solo by Patrick Moraz is just wonderful. I think the fact that the song is in D major just makes it even more happy and beautiful.

Wonderful choices here, a beautifully diverse selection from their late classic period. Brilliant!

Turn of the Century is my favorite piece by Yes. It is a fantastic representation of the acoustic/electric guitar, bass, keyboards, drums and vocal/lyric. It is a masterpiece.

I actually attended the YES concert back in 1977 in NYC's Madison Square Garden featuring the "Going For the One" album. I was there also, (MSG NYC 1977, and every year before and after until...) but truthfully, I cannot remember seeing Donovan. I'm very vaguely remembering something, but it's like looking through very hazy, colored glass. Thanks for sharing!

Could I say that "To Be Over" is my favorite YES song? No. But can I say no other YES song brings more peace and joy to my heart, mind, and soul? Yes. And it is absolutely one of my favorite Steve Howe songs. Bouncing from electric guitar to electric sitar to pedal steel guitar brilliantly and effortlessly. Okay. I'll admit it. This might be my favorite YES song. Ah, Madrigal. "Sacred ships do sail the seventh age".Reminds me of "Olias Of Sunhillow", Jon Anderson's phenomenal first solo album. A space-faring fantasy it you will. Madrigal touches on this: "Celestial travelers have always been here with us". Short, sweet, and to the point.Oh dear, "Turn of the Century". Such a heart-breakingly beautiful song. The artist, obsessed with his art loses his love, his muse, and sculpts his love after her death as if that creation could come back into life. Heart. Yes, To Be Over is wonderful, Madrigal is sweet, but Turn of the Century is exquisite!

I do hope Lex is feeling much better, much luv to you both... I'd say you picked some great songs, yet I will state "Turn of the Century" is one of my favorite Yes pieces if not among my of favorite of songs for all time, the eloquences and emotion it paints I could stare at for hours if it were a painting... It is one of the great musical masterpieces to my ears, and I've heard plenty a magnum opus. :-)

Jon Anderson was, and remains, a proponent of psychedelics. I think of him as a shaman or spiritual leader. He has always embraced a positive vision and his conviction, as you noted, comes across through his music.

An incredible and beautiful journey from beginning to the end. This band is indescribably wonderful to experience. My heart rate jumps with the emotions stirred by Yes's music.

WOW WHAT A TRIO!!!! That's like a Wholy Trinity of YES LOVE! OMG so I was in my teens & early 20's during the post-60's, 1970s. WE NEVER SAW ONE LIVE YES SHOW without LSD or SHROOMS from 72-79!!! ? not for most other bands but ALWAYS for YES!!!! I can't even explain what those experiences were like. I'd have to relive those times to remember how unbelievably magical it was, they were, I was! It is! BTW even amonst Progfans there is a strong HERD MENTALITY for certain band's songs and even certain bands. BUT there are SO MANY GREAT SONGS or bands that the masses will never recommend, Sadly!!! OK there are other GREAT bands close to those you mentioned but they are much more out of Mainstream of even "progressive" fans.. Do very early YES pre-Howe and Wakeman before moving on

'Turn of the Century' is one of, if not, THEE most beautiful songs ever recorded, and the Going for the One album still has a special place in my heart. (Oh Nick.....Peace on Earth.)

Great Yes marathon! "To Be Over" is the mellow closer on the Relayer album because the other two songs are wild, especially the opener to side two "Sound Chaser," which is one of the wildest, most experimental songs Yes ever made, and great. Of course, the first side is "Gates of Delirium," which is a classic, transcendent song, of fury and sublime awe. "Madrigal" is a gorgeous song from a very controversial album, which was the first one the band produced by themselves. There are great songs on the album and a couple of stinkers. It took me a while to warm up to "Turn of the Century" because is was such a departure from their usual sound and lyrics, but I came to love it. The album it's from is great. You have already reacted to "Awaken," which is one of the band's greatest songs. Nineties Yes is great, but don't sleep on the Eighties album that came right after their big hit album "90125," which contained that #1 hit, and the album that is now considered ever better than that big hit, "Big Generator." The great thing is, Yes kept making great albums until 2001, when they put out two great albums. A few years after that, everything started to fall apart, and, even though their music sounded decent, it never lived up to their past glory. And the main reason is because of their falling out with Jon Anderson, who was a bit controlling and wanted to do an acoustic tour, after a one-time, wonderful acoustic TV concert, which I think you will love. The rest of the band did not agree, and while Jon was recovering from a throat problem, the band moved on and refused to let him back in. I think he and Steve Howe are estranged. But, Jon is still making great music on his own. Love you two. From a huge Yes fan, since 1972.

I listened to Relayer for the very first time this past Easter weekend. It was life changing. I only wish I could hear it for the first time again.

It's so interesting watching you guys. Watching you and knowing what you are about to experience, because it's what we all have experienced as Yes fans. I knew Nick would be undone by it as I was undone, again, watching you. You were so right about "if everyone would just listen to Yes music there would be no war." It emotes peace and harmony! Good vibrations!

the Going for the One album needs to be heard on a massive hifi, to appreciate the majesty of the pipe organ. it's worth the effort of finding someone to do it for you. if you have a high end audio salon where you live, i bet they'd do it for you. you'll weep. for real.

You said that turn of the century is uplifting. What is amazing is it's about death. Jon has this gift where he can sing about death and war and the song always resolves on a beautiful uplifting end. " Like leaves we touch, we dance. We once new the story as autumn called and we both remembered all those many years ago". This is about the tree if life. We are the leaves. We touch the few leaves around us and then in the autumn we fall and die. We then feed the tree and in spring the cycle starts again. We are all connected through the tree. Jon is a gift to us all. A pure soul looking for enlightenment. Genius is too often used but Jon is more than that. His lyrics paint pictures of a beautiful world connected to a spiritual journey. We should all follow that path.

One of the great talents of Yes is their ability to play quietly as well as loudly. I love these three ballads. ABWH did a quiet one called The Meeting, which is also beautiful, and really shows off Jon's song writing and vocals.

I discovered the Going For The One album as a kid and was not able to listen all the bubble gum pop out there. Turn of the Century and Awaken are just on another level musically and spiritually.

Thank you Mark for a great YES marathon. I love the 'Relayer' album and 'To Be Over' has always been my favourite track off it. I will always hold Patrick Moraz close to my heart, as he contributed such beautiful keyboards to the one magnificent Yes album he made. They really do make the most wonderful music; there is so much going on but it is arranged and orchestrated so well that it flows perfectly. Take your time Nick, and explore the rest of the 70's Yes, before moving onto the 80's and then the 90's. There is lots of good stuff there, but the 70's was the golden age of Yes and you both must listen to that first. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you have reacted to 'I've Seen All Good People' #nicknlexrequest from 'The Yes Album', or 'Heart Of The Sunrise' #nicknlexrequest from 'Fragile'. They are non-negotiables from those 2 albums. Thanks guys, I was tearing up too, and what a joy to see Lex in a marathon! Take care.

This was a truly inspiring marathon. I REALLY enjoy this marathon format ! I of course know all these “jewels” very well but have a renewed appreciation for them listening to them again in this context. Mark did an AMAZING job coming up with this combination of song!! Yes always brightens my day and seeing your reaction to them is wonderful. You both do a great job…. Cheers to you both (this STYX marathon was amazing as well as the Elton John one..keep up the great work)!

I am practically without words in describing how I feel knowing that these songs are now experienced by you. Yes, it was an amazing time for those of us growing up with this music and (Yes Nick) it took our breath away. The only other thought I have is this... they played To Be Over and Turn of the Century live. I am sure many out there will tell you that we feel honored to have witnessed such wonderful music performed for us. You have plenty more 70's Yes to go (looking forward to it) ... some of the 80's and 90's Yes had great moments...then again sad to say didn't. Have you thought about going back to some Renaissance? Maybe try some of Jon's solo work or Jon with Vangelis. LOVE YOU GUYS!

Steve Howe is playing a Coral Electric Sitar Guitar which is now made by Danelectro. He uses it throughout his career but today it’s a Line6 Variax. I own a Variax and it’s awesome. Check out Do It Again by Steely Dan.

The whole production of Going For The One is etheral through and through. As you can recognize again by listening to Turn of the Century. What about 'Wonderous Stories' - big 70' s radio-hit (!) - at least here in Germany.

Deffo is worthy of a place in the top 5 league of albums,alongside-Darkside,Rumours,Pepper,and Pet-Sounds imho.They channeled some godly essence with this one.

Beautiful marathon guys, am pretty sure Rick played an actual harpsichord on Madrigal which was built by an English chap called Thomas Goff. Such a delightful & enchanting little piece. The other two are immortal classics, so unique, so intricate, so uplifting, so beautiful. The remaining tracks on Going for the one are fantastic, the title track, Parallels & Wonderous Stories. Best wishes.

To Be Over. the title says it all. Never/can't be done again. Thank God for being around back then, to be in the moment of great musical creations and talent.

Turn if the Century is one of fhe most beautiful songs ever written. Apart from the main story of a love lost and Roan trying to recreate the feeling through his sulpture, as with most Yes songs there is a higher meaning. Like leaves we touch is the key to life. We are alive for such a short time and we touch others momentarily. The tree of life remains which we are all.part of and in autumn we die but new life begins in the spring for another moment. What Jon does is lift you from the ego to the spirit and manages to turn sadness and loss into a wonderful feeling of love and hope. Stunning!

Yes's most captivating, emotionally charged piece IMHO.

At their best Yes are simply magical 🙂❤
