I've been following your channel for a while, and recently I've decided to join your first course, C1. It's incredibly helpful in improving my understanding of native speakers. I've been living and working in the UK for more than two years, and sometimes I find it challenging to comprehend natives when they use slang or have fast-paced conversations with my colleagues. I've learned a lot from this course, and I appreciate it, Lucy. I'm considering joining your other courses as well.

As a native English speaker, you just blew my mind. I use stuff like "cleft sentences" and "post-modified superlative adjectives" without knowing why I do them or what they're called. Truly fascinating stuff! Another fun thing for me... is since I'm from the US, we'd say it like "No sooner had I *gotten* dressed" which I didn't realize was different from British English. I watched a whole video on that topic a few weeks ago , so it was fun seeing it written here! I love that I can learn so much from a video like this; I'll be sure to check out your other videos! Thanks for making fun content! :)

Great video! That's how I really love to use the language. Your very precise and detailed description of the daily routine reminds me of John Cleese's intro when he entered the cheese shop. Remember, he was sitting in a library reading Hugh Walpole's Rogue Herrys and got hungry. After explaining this to the owner, he added: "And I thought to myself, 'a little fermented curd will do the trick', so, I curtailed my Walpoling activites, sallied forth, and infiltrated your place of purveyance to negotiate the vending of some cheesy comestibles!" - So great I can't stop listening to what John Cleese describes. 😇

Wow, thank you so much for this splendid lesson, Lucy! As a non-native speaker whose mother tongue is Mandarin, I feel comfortable using non-finite clauses in writing. But when speaking, I just can't bring them out naturally. In the past few months, I have been trying my best to shun the use of fillers. And where a subordinating conjunction should be used, I'd avoid a colloquial preposition on purpose. So at times I would go as far to say 'as he said' instead of 'like he said'.😂 But still, I make many mistakes when speaking. And I can't stop repeating 'and uh...', lol.
