"Yes, I am Nakhat Khan" I Khushbu Sundar on her abusive father, being muslim & leaving Congress

Barkha Dutt speaks to actor-turned-politician, BJP leader and National Commission for Women (NCW) Member Khushbu Sundar in the 30th episode of our podcast 'Inside Out'.
Khushbu makes a shocking revelation saying she was sexually abused by her father and he also tried to sell her sexually to film producers for an amount of Rs. 25,000 for one night. Khushbu says she was only 16 then.
She also spoke about her political stint with the DMK, Congress and now in the BJP. Khushbu talks about working in films as a child actor, her association with Hema Malini, 46 police cases against her news article, being in love, relationships, her husband and daughters, and also - for the first time- opens up on the biggest regret of her life.

I'm 5th generation Malaysian of Indian ancestry. My mom is catholic from a staunch christian family, dads a hindu from a staunch hindu family. They got married early 80s with resprctive families approval and neither converted. They brought me and my younger sister up with the freedom to choose our religion we felt comfortable with (both of us finally chose to be hindus in our 20s eve though were much closer to mom's side of the family ). We grew up celebrating every hindu and christian religious festivals. My mom despite not a hindu did all the religious preps for hindu festivals like ponggal, deepavali, karthigai deepam etc even when dad was working overseas for a couple of years when we were young. Dad loved buying and decorating christmas trees and buying presents for all the children in moms extended family. Feel very blessed to have progressive parents like mine.

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻those days never interfered with other religions. Even my mama(uncle) married a Christian girl and my grandma in those days late 70s never forced my aunt to change anything, though she did change her name from Dorothy to Nandita . But my mother and respective aunts and cousins all of us would call her Dorothy aunty and my grandma never objected. She was the only one calling her by Hindu name but never ever forced my aunt to do any rituals or visit temples and all that

Dear friends It looks sensible, peaceful and reasonable not to hurt or convert. Yes one has to respect the other faiths. But in a family mother and father are from different religious backgrounds that situation is lukewarmness in their respective faith. Faith is something one has to be focussed and sincere. Honoring and compromising are different. One has to stick to their faith if they know it's the Truth without any compromise. One can compromise on any other issues but never when it comes to faith and God. It's the ultimate one and decides the destiny of the Spirit. So, I am sorry for this family. Father is Hindu and mother is a catholic. Children are something. Religion or God must be the priority in anyone's life. We honor but never compromise in selecting the partner. Partner should be of same faith. If you are hurt by my comment please excuse me friends. But it's the truth Truth is absolute not relative.

Waheeda Rehman did not speak English. She spoke in Hindi even at Simi Garewal show. Not saying that English language decides something about you. But Muslim girls and women are kept away from the education and they lack many opportunities in life. Zinnat Aman’s mom was Hindu. That is the reason why she got modern upbringing. She was not kept behind hijab.

I loved Khushboo then and even now, great fan of yours. I really enjoyed listening to your interview, raising from being an actress to entering politics it’s quite remarkable. I like what you stand for women and their rights which is much needed in India. I appreciate your openness and vulnerability and even saying that you’re sorry for your past relationship. I myself went through a very abused marriage suffered immensely and loosing my children for over a decade. Through this process of pain, agony no where to turn too I realized if I cannot fight this out by myself nobody can really help. I must say that through the pain and trauma I have become a strong and courageous person I don’t fear to speak and stand for the truth. As you know when you speak the truth it sets you free. So keep up your good work wishing you and your family loads of happiness and blessings. ❤

So true about the insecurities of men that cannot accept a strong woman ever. Thats the Indian way of life. We blame the women for everything and dont even realise how in each and every day we continue to put them down in order for us to feel important. Shame on all of us. Thank you for your refreshing honesty Khushboo. You are a brave, honest, intelligent, grounded woman. We need more like you in the country to change the blatant sexism so rooted in us that we no longer see as a problem. My appreciation also goes to the interviewer!

Speaks volumes for all concerned about them all being friends now. It takes a lot of courage for Mrs P to forgive and have a cordial relationship with Khusboo and her children. Very very rare.
