YES Concert - Dallas Texas 7/20/2019

Музыка

YES performs a number of their well known 70's hits, as well as some lesser known gems. Fantastic concert! YES has always been in my top 10 Rock Bands of all-time. This is the third YES concert I have attended and each and every one was a unique masterpiece.
GO SEE THEM LIVE ON THE CURRENT TOUR WITH ASIA, JOHN LODGE AND ELP LEGACY!!!

Thanks! It was a great performance. "Bootleg" is an obsolete name and concept from the 1960's and 70's. Today everyone has video capability in their smart phone and I just record my concerts to remember them and share with like-minded fans. No way can my iPhone capture the sound quality like a professional recording... Unlike the old days when people sold bootleg records, I don't monetize my videos, and the performers themselves get royalty credits directly from KZread. Most performers like the fact that I expose their current tour to free advertisement and it helps them generate sales for their live performances. I know that is a true fact - they have emailed me and told me so many times. Occasionally I get notices to remove a video, but that is getting really rare these days. Many bands make a lot more money on tour than through streaming music. And audiophiles like me would prefer to purchase vinyl any day. Cheers

I had a perverse desire to hear “Gates of Delirium” with the Steve Howe Cover Band and all I can say is…..I’m glad they dropped it from the setlist. They could have hypothetically re-hired Tom Brislin but he has higher standards and a better gig. As a professional musician , I’ve previously refrained from publicly criticizing my colleagues but it’s just too distressing to hear Downes hack away and butcher Moraz’ (and , elsewhere on the set-Wakeman’s) iconic parts and to endure sub-par drumming. Among other aspects….. Hang it up, Steve, leave it to JA, Band Geeks, Awaken and School of Rock! Please , before you do any more damage to the legacy……

The issue here is not the lack of original members. Some of these players go back a long way. The issue is the poor performances, out of tune vocal harmonies, slow tempos, obviously telegraphed cues for Davison, who I'm guessing cannot count and the fact that they are clearly under rehearsed. This is an insult to the band Yes, unlike the fabulous ARW performances. This band should be called 'Steve Howe and friends attempt to play the music of Yes, with varying degrees of success'.

The Gates of Delirium is my all time favorite piece of music, by anyone, ever. The version here is a good try for sure, but I've never seen any band called Yes be this loose & sloppy, with giant telegraphed and safe cues transitioning the various parts. The first few shows on the Masterworks Tour really put the spotlight on how difficult a piece of music this is to perform, but even with the trainwrecks & re-starts the band were still *tight*. Today's Yes is unfortunately anything but.

It is not that bad. Alan White's drumming is not what it was and certainly Billy Sherwood is not Chris Squire on bass. But Steve is still Steve. Davison sounds as close to Jon as anyone will ever get and the keyboardist is not Wakeman but who is. Neither Kaye or Downes were Rick but the albums they did with Yes were amzing as well. This is about 90-95% of the Bands usual quality which still makes them far better than almost any other act you could see out there.

The mistake at 15:24 is NOT Jay Schellen's fault. It's Jon Davidson who fluffs his vocal entrance gets a beat ahead of the rest of the band. Jay then play's a bar 3/4 at 15:30 to pull the rest of the band into time with Davidson and they carry on. A similar mistake to this can be found in the 1975 QPR performance of Yours Is No Disgrace where Pat Moraz gets a beat behind the rest of the band with the keys riff and Alan White is forced to play a bar of 5/4 in order to pull everything together. It's always very uncomfortable for a drummer to be put into that situation and on both occasions, it wasn't the drummers' fault!
