I think it's pretty freaking sweet that you're using a *Sony* tablet (of all things!) to connect to an old *Ericsson* phone...

Genius!! Never imagined someone in 2020’s could still do this.

Janus is obviously a genius, but i remember few months ago having lots of fun mapping all key combinations and determining bitrate of an old TV remote using arduino and IR diode to make myself a little RGB LED string remote.

@@tritonmole I sent my first ever email on a Psion 5 via infra red modem on one of these (I think it was a GH888) over 3g back in 98, it would normally work after a few tries and long waits not sure what the bit rate was over infra red but probably close to the 3G speeds. I used to check once a day for about a month or 2 I thought mobile email was going to be useful to me it wasn't at the time I was seriously wrong

I had this exact phone, 2 different sized batteries, and i had a long range antenna with a whip at the top, all Genuine Ericsson stuff, back when that was a damn good brand. It was never as good as my Nokia 2110, which i still do have (also had a Technophone 2110 for a while!!) these were all exceptional phones, that Nokia 2110 would work well outside the Optus digital map range back in the 90s!! Remember the 2110e and 2110i ?? I'd love to see you do something with one of those, it has been decades since my original 2110 has worked. The next one i had was a Nokia 3810(?) It had the nick name "the small phone with the big display" Similar phone to the one used in Matrix, but without the slide plate.

You had a Technophone branded 2110? Was it the same functions with GSM and everything? I do have an original Nokia 2110i. I would like to make a video when I find out more of it's story.

@@JanusCycle i did have a Technophone 2110 yes, it seemed to function identically to a Nokia 2110, i can't recall any difference. I will have to look at the old one i have and see which one it is, think it's a 2110 plain. Pretty sure i sold the 2110i wayyyy back.

@@CaseTheCorvetteMan I don't know if I have a 2110 or 2110i, they look so similar and I'll have to dig it out to check. The 2110e has a noticeably different style though. As I recall these Nokias didn't have a clock. Something Ericsson did have at the time :)

@@JanusCycle yes the 2110e was visually quite different. The 2110i was visually almost the same, but had the antenna from the 2110e. The keypad layout was different in terms of the alpha locations, the e and the i had them in alphabetical order, where the plain didn't. The one i have is a plain, the battery is buggered and has been for many years. I had that phone repaired by Mobile Phone Solutions in Maroochydore back in the 90s, still has their sticker on it!

How on Earth do these charge? I have a car charger for this that connects to the bottom but the LED or the LCD does not indicate that it is charging. Only when it is powered on. And no LED charge signal when powered on, either. In the original box, when I opened it, there was a 2nd battery and an external charger for the battery only.

A car kit adapter cable might have the pins. I think this is where I got mine from. But anything this old is so hard to find. I'm lucky I kept these boxes of old junk. You could try adding some pogo pins to yours, that might be easier.
