A note from a Yank: your layouts surpass us in attention to scenes packed with tremendous detail. There is a sense of intimacy because of the modest sizes of engines, wagons and villages. I have a modest 2ft. x 12ft. switching layout. I am studying your scenes so I can make mine better. Cheers!

This is of the best model railway video,s i have ever seen on you tube it has some wonderful appealing scenes and full of novel scenes, so who cares about stark cold reality, these layouts are full of warmth, escapism, and for me have some of the most important elements we should capture in a layout.

Video better than being there, as it was well attended, many details were missed. Personally, I travelled over a hundred miles to see it with my son and grandson who live locally.

I went to that on Saturday morning, but I'm afraid to say that I stayed about half an hour or so.. It was just too claustrophobic for the size of the venue(s), as there was two other buildings next to each other, the third being a place to get refreshments.. There were just too many people crammed into such a small area... May I make the suggestion that the organiser's use one building for layouts only the other building for traders and the third to be left for refreshments... Such a shame really as it used to be held at St Mary's Church and church hall...

I have come to a conclusion that there are 2 types of almost finished/finished layout builders; 1 those that want to run trains on a half arsed layouts, which is fine. 2 the diorama builders/modelers who want to make a high quality representation of the "real" with representations of real train formations that they can't be arsed running trains on their perfect track and points. Being OCD I fall into group 2, with a stupid number of DCC fitted engines and an insane number of matching coaches that may at some point move out of the perfect station. There is another small group, The Tech Brigade with their fully automated points. signals, train movement systems that spend their time faffing about with wires and ripping up points and almost never having working track to run anything. Well just go and look at probably the 3 top model railway KZreadrs. The point is........ Its a hobby to enjoy where you do something physical in the Real World. Cheers Callum and thank you for your time and effort sharing this.

I think it's all about finding where you fall in the intersection of those three groups. I even think there is a fourth group: the planner, who spends months and years planning the perfect layout and collects more than a few bits and bobs, but never gets beyond a few false starts (which is where I will fall if I don't get cracking)! BTW: I would surely think Everard Junction is one of the top three and he has been running trains the last several years and he is also building diorama quality pieces - so a balance is possible.

Hi, I hope you don't mind an observation. You do great video quality but so much of it is on close up shots which do not give an overall view of the layout. If you did a panned out shot of the layout before concentrating on the close up shots it would provide context and show why trains were going from A to B and back again. When I go to a show I look around the layout, read the info, watch a few trains running and last look at details. Your videos are excellent quality but too focused on detail to give the layout builder full props for their overall creation. Please don't take these observations the wrong way, I really do think they'd be better showing the whole layout too. To put these comments into context, you have thousands of followers so what do I know !

I'm glad I'm not the only one who found the venue too overcrowded and claustrophobic.... Like I said in my comment, I stayed for about half an hour and I couldn't even view the layouts.... Such a shame.... And IF there had been a fire....... Well, I won't go down that road... Sodbury Vale Model Railway Club really needs to consider a much bigger venue.
