Fleischmann HO Scale Model Railroad - Realistic Model Train Layout built by Artist Bernhard Stein

Ойын-сауық

In every country there are artists and masters in the field of model railroading who have the ability to depict nature, trains, buildings, landscapes and rail traffic as realistically as possible in the model. When these artists build model train layouts, these stand out with many details. In Germany, there was a model maker who was known throughout Europe. His name was Bernhard Stein, and this video presents one of his largest model railroad layouts in HO scale.
Bernhard Stein was a German model builder who died on September 5, 2002. In addition to his original profession as a church painter and restorer, he also worked as a journalist and photographer. However, he seems to have found his true destiny as a model railroader, as his model railway layouts and model train dioramas gave inspiration for many other railway modellers.
The model railway layout in this video has all the classic elements that make a model railroader’s heart beat faster, because Bernhard Stein has thought of everything: Long railroad lines, a large train station, a locomotive depot with engine shed, a branch line and lovingly arranged landscapes. The model railroad has a total track length of almost 360 meters and is built on 14 segments based on the model track system of the German company Fleischmann.
The segments arranged in an L-shape require a footprint of 4 x 11 x 11 meters. The size of the whole miniature world allows model railroad operations with prototypically long trains. Along the main railway lines, the model railway layout is equipped with a filigree overhead line (catenary) made by the German company Sommerfeldt. While steam trains and diesel trains are used on the branch line only, all types of trains run on the main lines. If you are interested in European model railroading, especially in German railway modelling, then the books written by Bernhard Stein are an infinitely large knowledge database.

Fantastic. I can't believe this was built using the old Fleischmann track system; I used to have that when I was a kid. Those brass rails were a pain to keep clean compared to the modern nickel silver alternative. In that old Fleischmann track system longer turnouts were not available until very late, so whilst some nice large radius curves have been modelled here, most of the turnouts have the comical toy-like dimensions just like Märklin turnouts of the same era (there are a small number of longer turnouts with active frog shown in the video, which didn't become available until very late in Fleischmann's older track system.)

Les caténaires c'est chouette mais j'ose pas imaginer en cas d'intervention pour attrapper quelque chose tombé en-dessous d'elles.

Hmm... I don't know who runs the model railroad now, but if Bernhard Stein was really such a stickler for realistic designs, then now he is probably turning in shame in his grave when he sees that electric locomotives run under overhead lines with pantographs lowered...! But otherwise a very nice video!

Bernhard Steins layouts look much to sterile for my taste. He admitted that when we talked in the late 1990ies. Her told me that this had to do with his profession as a restorer where his customers - mostly the catholic church or the state of Bavaria- want items restored to nearly new condition.
