** ABOUT ME **
Hello! My name is Jay, and I am a long-time veteran of storytelling and a semi-seasoned DM! I began playing Dungeons and Dragons roughly 5 years ago and began my first ever game as the DM. I figured things out by watching online games and fumbling my way through the rules, and never looked back! I've fallen in love with TTRPG's in general and want to share my experience and thoughts with the world and community I love so much. I currently DM two separate games regularly, and continue to learn every day.
** ABOUT THE CHANNEL **

Imagine being a dm in a series, tens of thousands of people follow regularly, and one of your players, that has been away most of the time, suddenly decides to down itself. Matt was horrified what would people have said about him killing of another player in a mediocre fight not even against a semi boss like before, but in a random arena fight. He had to convey that fight and what happened to all the people, show this is an emotional fight not one of strengths, and Matt was clearly not prepared for that one. That being said, this fight shows how good of a dm Matt is to improv this to such a degree that it's not just a one-sided slaughter but also shows the feelings and nobody gets mad. Also, I think this did a lot of positive development to Yascha .

This was my favorite scene of the campaign. Specifically because of all the precipitating events, the fact that we didn't know Ashley as Yasha very well... and it was such a mind fuck. I like it when players do things like this in my home games, they're small, and incredibly instructive but they also have a purpose. I hate chaos for chaos sake. But when someone comes out of the tall grass like this you just got to say "clever girl" and be about it for a minute.

In addition to Caleb understanding Yasha’s moment of self destruction. I think another valuable moment of RP between characters was caduceus asking “did you get what you needed”. Very subtle but it shows such care for his friend. Maybe he doesn’t know those feelings or understand self harm but in that immediate moment after there was no judgement just hoping she felt better.

Barbarians are always my favorite characters cause they fundamentally are either the healthiest individual or the most lost. This happens because of their rage and how we all know anger and rage and it can be one of the most intimidating emotions to handle, so for a barbarian to be able to confront this primal emotion so regularly gives them the most relatable situations in my opinion.

I was enjoying the break down... "Even if they won't hold her accountable, she feels like somebody needs to....because isn't that how the world works?!?" That's a hell of a line and got me choked up. That worldview is tragic. I can almost hear Yasha screaming internally (totally not projecting or anything) about needing to be punished for things that she knows no one else will ever blame her for. Such self-punishment is...cathartic. And truly sad. Your video is a great breakdown of the moment. I've never seen this channel before but I'm certainly looking forward to more content.

This is one of my favorite moments in the C2. Yasha actually had some of the best moments during the highest RP moments in the campaign only to have someone else steal the moment (example; Before cupcake Yasha had the best moment).

Let's not forget that Yasha admitted later on while aboard the Ball-Eater that subjecting herself to all that didn't help at all. It only made her feel even more lost. She didn't find the answer she had been looking for. It only made her even angrier at herself. She only just begins to come to terms with everything beginning with the voyage to Rumblecusp and then throughout that arc, just like with Beau after what happened at Kamordah and Jester regarding her relationship with the Traveler. All three of them left the island feeling more sure of themselves as a result of their adventures there. Honestly, I'd love to see a retrospective on how the Rumblecusp arc was an allegory for isolation as well as recovery, realization, and reflection.

Favoite 2 moments from C3 (i hope this is not spoilery. Everyone has a different tolerance level): 1. Scene with Liam's Orym learns who Marisha's Laudna is and what that means. 2. When Orym goes home, this is not earth shattering or an epic moment but the love and tenderness Liam brings to life makes me smile, with a tear in my eye. It is probably just me, but Orym is the one, the only one, who's not fairly insane so letting him step out of the background is great. His moments hit hard for me.

Favorite moments from C3? Episodes 8-12 (I think?) are just pure fun. Smiling just thinking about it. 33-38/39 and the events leading up are incredible storytelling & rp. 43 has a npc reveal that still makes me so excited. Episode 51(!!) to 64 is just...fun chaos & devestatingly amazing rp by everyone that graces that beautiful table. I hope that is vague enough 😂

Learning some of what Ashley was going through in real life during this time makes this incredibly hard for me to watch. It’s an incredible performance, but I can’t imagine it NOT being rooted in some real life trauma. Actors use that shit all of the time, so I have no doubt she channeled hers into her work. I truly hope she’s happier now.

Interesting take on why she did it! I never saw it as a way for her to get punished for her wrongdoings. To me, it was the rawest way she had to take back control. As Oban’s thrall, faced by combat, she would not have been able to do anything but fight. She was powerless, because she was fighting. And this fight was a way for her to negate that, a way for her to prove that she wasn’t under his domination anymore. She proved her freedom by losing.

Kinda reminds me of the most important roll I ever made with my Half-Goblin Monk in our current campaign, it was also the last roll I made with her. So she had trouble saying No to any request, this was her main flag n I had established with the DM that I needed to make wisdom saves in order to voice said disagreement. After several near death experiences this once joyful n friendly monk whom had never killed, had become a murderous psychopath as she had not found a way to process her fear n pain. The party's Pirate Barbarian had betrayed the party n joined the enemies. The Paladin had challenged the Pirate Admiral (whom had killed his father) to a duel n promised to let everyone else go. When the fight was done my Monk made the first of her rolls n told the Barbarian to stay as we had unfinished business. An at least 17th level Wizard that the pirates had hired to read the Scroll of the Comet said that I was violating the deal. The party didn't back me on this as they were afraid to fight him with our only healer barely clinging to life after his duel. That Wizard wanted to sell us the Scroll for a high price n we had fought tooth n nail against these pirates for so long over that Scroll after the first copy of it blew up the Paladin's home town. I knew the DM had calculated that the party had just enough to buy it but would be back to level 1 amounts of coin... the Rogue refused to pay up, n he had the most money of all of us. We were just going to let our betrayed leave, we were just going to let this Scroll be out there waiting for the highest bidder to buy it from the Wizard, wut had it all been for? She found herself wanting to strike down her companions n kill every single pirate... n then she thought back to the day after her first near dear experience, where in her rage at the prospect of someone stealing somebodies dog n cooking it, that she kicked their door to splinters only to find a teen boy trying to feed his 3 younger siblings... she had grown up in poverty herself n that was the first time she realized that she was becoming a monster, raging at her party was the last time. She didn't speak for the rest of the boat ride to shore n as soon as we docked I tolled her last roll, nat 20 wis save n she chewed the party out on their lack of dedication to the cause, she had never wanted to be a hero, she just wanted to sell her family's rice n be a business woman, but she was broken at this point. Not fight left in her, no ambition left, no will to push on even tho she knew the mission wasn't finished. She tore out her Ersatz Eye, removed all her gear, n emptied her pockets (coins n bank notes included) n placed them all on the party's wagon (technically her wagon) n left with nothing but her clothes n her mule named Donkey n went home to her village to be a simple farmer. Not at all how I imagined her story to end but her sudden n aggressive departure left the party n players shook. 1st time I've ever retired a PC (had a few die n most games fizzle out) n the next time I retire one, I only hope the moment is even half as epic. The Paladin, having avenged his people also retired n went to rebuild the village. Now the only original party member is the Warforged Fighter whose player keeps missing sessions so we just use him to watch the wagon n animals, but the party pushes on to earn enough coin to buy the Scroll with party loot rather than the Rogue having to give of his personal stash. The Barbarian's player had started playing a Warlock just before my Monk's departure, n now the Paladin's player plays a Bard n I returned after a couple weeks being sick IRL as a Cleric n have returned to playing a person who is generally opposed to killing. She stabilizes downed enemies n has thus far only killed 1 enemy after watching him flee n abandon his comrades cuz she firmly believes that u should never leave a person behind. Ima have a lot of fun with her n maybe in the future I will have a tale as epic to tell about her.
