From the Makani auctions. I realize I'll never have time for a project with this motor so letting it go. Contact me if you are interested.

How can sb calculate what bearings to use for this type of motor?
@katinar4o2 жыл бұрын
This is actually mostly a generator. Under the yellow cap is the terminal socket for the thermocouple (you are right). The cables are for the hall sensor. The encoder is not there, only the encoder's rotor is visible on the video. As far as I remember, the voltage was about 1200 v, but I am not sure was it generated voltage or power supply voltage. The controller was unique for those motors/generators, for more info you should turn to Makani. Unfortunately, I don't think they will share this kind of information, as they developed the technology for about 10 years. Advice: Never try to open that motor. The magnets are powerful and extremely dangerous. P.S. To the guy who said it's a fake, I have nothing to tell him, only a not very friendly special combination of fingers!

The Makani open source code should show how a controller would work for this: github.com/google/makani I sold the unit before I could figure it out but I think a Sevcon should do it as long as it is configured correctly. In this thread someone got it working: www.diyelectriccar.com/threads/makani-motor-controller-and-open-source-firmware.203816/#post-1063763
