I’m a yard guy at our company 1 of those in the beginning, no cdl required, top out is $30+ per hour no forced overtime
I have been a yard jockey at xpo for a year and a half. Love it, 9-10hrs day Mon-Friday Top pay 34.60 hour weekend and holidays off paid and OT paid everyweek. Spotters have heat in the winter and air in the summer. No cons

How do you get a job there and what are the requirements to be a spotter
Cons of being a yard jockey in most cases: Having lazy coworkers Poor on-site mangers Potential crappy equipment (no heat or a/c) Understaffed Working outside, rain, sleet or snow and of course the hot ass summer days.

I deal with all those issues on a daily basis. The best you can do is be the better person and don't let it affect your job or life outside of work.
The other good thing is, you don't have to drive on the highway or side streets in the truck when it is snowing, or high winds. You are in the yard and about 90% of the yards are well taken care of in the winter

Been a spotter for 5 years and work at the port in Galveston Tx. I make $39 and hour plus about 20 to 30 hours of OT a week. Easy money and I'm home every day. Cons about this job is working in the rain and the elements like the heat and cold but overall an easy job and good money.
I am a Shunter or if you prefer yard Jockey. I was tired of driving long hours on the road so I decided to become a yard Jockey and I love it.
Wow thank you so much for this video. Im actually going on a interview for this position tomorrow. 🙌🏽
Thank You for this video broksy ✌️💯
I do this right now for Hyundai on second shift work 7 days a week 5pm-6am no weekends off day begins on Sunday !
Do you need your cdl or just a class d with the f endorsement ?
Mmm, pretty sure if the yard truck stays off the street and always on private property, a cdl isn’t necessary. Our company has repair shop guys and a few other people certified on the yard truck moving trailers around as needed and pretty sure they don’t have cdl’s. A place that has multiple buildings in the close area that regularly move trailers between buildings, those drivers would need cdl since it’s on the public street.

Places like the post office will require a CDL because they often drive on the streets to other facilities to bring or pick up trailers. But I believe it depends on the distance. If you drive your unit on the road you are allowed to do so without a CDL as long as you stay within the required distance, and I don't remember how many mIles it is. Same applies for driving a truck for a farm.

I agree I am looking at this and some call it spotter switcher goat jockey or yard dog and I said well yard dog sounds cooler I might even get that put on my jacket but I’m not sure how do you know where to take trailer do they have numbers or paperwork
Do they play weekly?
Just got hired to be one 🔥🔥 definitely going to take advantage of this opportunity
Just don’t hit anything and go the speed limit and you’ll be good 👍
could'nt find a "SYC" HOSTLER TRUCK is that ottawa?
I am extremely interested in doing this. I have 33 + yrs OTR and am 61 yrs old. Would like to sell my truck and get a yard jockey job somewhere .
Ive ben a yard driver for Honda manufacturing of alabama for 8 years move around 160 trailers on 8 hour shift starting tomorrow im going to be working for Virginia transportation at georgia pacific doing the yard job 10 bins 1 driver its going to be something els
I drive an Xspotter 👍
Easy if you good at backing. Im still struggling with that
I was an OTR driver for 20 years then i retired from OTR and started working for Lazer Spot as a yard jockey at a paper plant back in 22 . Im not thrilled with it for sure. The pay is mid at best and the work force sucks to be honest. Most have no CDL and very little work ethic.
Lots of getting up and down to pull airlines. Rides really shitty if parking lot isnt smooth.
Im definitely interested if they call

Look for yard spotter/mule/jockey/switcher/hostler positions online that don’t ask for a CDL, but just a regular driver’s license. And apply, they’ll train you. Or work for a big shipper and start from inside the warehouse and ask to be trained to be one of them in-house and they’ll teach ya. You don’t get to leave the yard, so no need for a CDL, just a lot of companies want them, but you just have to look for the ones that don’t require any…do a lot of research.
