My intentions on becoming a yard dog is to get experience on moving / backing trailers for when I get my CDL, after a year of finally begging my warehouse to let me become a yard dog, I'm starting next week!

This was my third day of being a yard jockey. Not bad, not bad at all since I'm starting to like my new job. At least I come home from work everyday.

Never, Never, Never operate with just your red line. That was just a write up if not a 3 day suspension without pay.

I'm sitting here outside of a FedEx warehouse and just noticed the yard dogs moving trailers around ... I've operated one of them before when I worked at Penske ... I don't know why I wanted to see it on KZread 🤣

I can move these trailers with my eyes shut, it was nothing for us to move between 130 to 155 trailers in a 10 hr shift. But we also had computers in our Jockey Trucks to keep us moving trailers. Too bad ES3 is an ass wipe to work for. I worked there for about six years jockeying trailers and was second in seniority, I had the privilege of working with some of the best jockeys around. Everyone of us took care of our trucks, always did a walk around before and after our shift, we kept our trucks clean on the inside as well as the out. We also worked as a team. I moved containers as well as trailers. I believe when I very first started the Pup trailers were the worst in learning to back into a spot, but it took me about a full day, and it was a piece of cake. My advice to anyone who is a jockey or wants to learn how to back a trailer or container or pup trailers in a spot where they need to go is simple. The secret is to watch your back tandem, not the back of the trailer, but your tandems, if you do that and put them tandems between them lines you will always back em right in with no problems. If your looking at the ass in of that trailer or container or a pup trailer while backing it in you will be there all day, and looking like an ass. Lol just saying. But watch those tandems and it doesn’t matter where they are located on the trailer ether, they might be slid all the way up or somewhere in the middle of the ass end or slid all the way back, it doesn’t matter. Just watch them tandems, you will get em there everytime. But of course watch the other trailers also as to being careful not to come to close or hitting them. I sure do miss that kind of work. Good luck to all you Jockeys out there🪶

Ok for all the new folks actually everyone..Hook up both airlines. Don't care how fast you are going zero reason to just run emergency. (Red) It's hard on the truck brakes etc thats all thats stopping you (blue) is trailer braks.. Also everytime you are on the brakes without service hooked up you are dumping air out the service line. (Blue). The yards I have worked in allowed speed limit of 15mph. Trying to stop 35 to 40,000lbs when an over the road driver pulls out infront of you like a meat head. With just emergency hooked up ur sure as shit gunna wish you had the trailer brakes helping whoa that B down

As a yard driver it still amazes me that companies have all the money in the world, and they still use old ass yard goats.
