Just carrying a NBA franchise is a lot easier than what Yao did. Remember that Yao also plays in NBA seasons so he has 0 time to rest after play offs. Going to the training camps and the olympics themselves really wears on a player's body, especially if he's 7 ft 5.

yuch1102 FLebron probably has the best body build in history of NBA. Dude is a big, strong, and athletic guy that has never really suffered any major injuries. Compare that to Yao Ming who was already pretty thin with a 7'5 frame and almost never had an off season where he can just rest because the Chinese bball team always needed him.

Shows how loaded this Olympics was. Germany with Nowitzki (and Kamon) couldn't even get out of pool play. Compare that to the most recent Olympics (2021) where Slovenia with Doncic made it to the semi-finals!

This was china's golden basketball era..Yao looks slow but he is dominating everyone with his size , strength and shooting.

Whenever Dirk scores, which is obviously very often, it's almost as if most of them hit nothing but net. Hardly rims any shots, all net on so many. Yao just a beast. Best center since Shaq in my opinion, even up till today.

His grandparents moved to the US during WW I. Kaman didn‘t speak German nor lived or played in Germany. Nowitzki brought up the topic since Kaman told Nowitzki he has German roots. He became German citizen in July 2008 just before the Olympics. Kaman could fulfill his dream of taking part at the Olympics one day. Am German myself but not a big fan of things like this. I mean why would we have a competition between nations when the athletes who represent these countries don‘t have connections to this country or just came there when they were already athletes. Same bad discussion with Embiid for the US or France atm. Just a bad joke.

He gives his heart and soul to his country. Never saw Yao always celebrates like pumping his fist after every point

I don't know why but Yao was one of those guys I would have loved to see win a NBA championship while he was in his prime. It would have been awesome to see him hit some clutch shots in the NBA Finals while he does his signature fist pump!

Yao had a stress fracture of his left ankle in Feb this year and everyone was telling him to quit this Olympics tournament but he insisted to play for his country with injuries, and carried China to the top 8.

That's probably why his career was cut short. If I remember correctly, he also didn't take enough time to recover in 2006 after his season ending injury. I respect his love of his country but as an NBA fan, you gotta wonder what if... He was such a great player and a likeable person.

Yao was a beast in the NBA but he was scarier in the international stage for two reasons:slower pace and 40 minute games. Yao's biggest weakness, outside of the obvious durability issue, was stamina. Dude would just dominate EVERYONE early on, but would often get tired and resort to shooting fadeaways. They were very effective, but not quite on par with his low post options. If Yao had more stamina, he would've definitely been an MVP-calibur level, although that wouldn't be realistic at his size. Anyway, the slower pace and shorter game time meant Yao could be more effective in the Olympics. Now China never advanced past the round of eight, because they didn't have any elite level perimeter player. If they had one NBA-level guard(and I don't mean that dude who played like quarter of the season with the Lakers, I mean a guy would legit belongs there), China could've contended for medals.

but Yi played very well in National Team, even better than Yao Ming. Yi got 30pts in 2012 vs Spain and 25pts in 2016 vs USA. Yao Ming had never got more than 20pts vs USA or Spain.

Yao did had 3 pointer abilities and actually shot a few in his rookie year. But it doesn't fit Rockets playstyle so they don't let him. Also FIBA's 3 pts line is much closer to the basket.

If I remember correctly, Yao's has 67% percentage of 3-point shooting in his career, he throw three time at 3 point line. and he only missed one.
