I'd give just about anything for trucking to go back to how it was then, or to just go back to that time period. Such a massive variety of trucks, no plethora of unnecessary computer systems in them, no obnoxious LED headlights, guys actually took pride in their work. Absolutely awesome.

Look at all those cabovers!! No defs or filters in sight! Crazy to think freightliners actually sounded good at one time and look at them now. But at least trucks are still diesel and not electric today, but I would’ve loved to be a kid during the 90s!💯
I was 19-20 years old in 1987-88, driving a local straight truck and hanging out at the truck stops and packing plants in Salinas, admiring all the shiny and lit up independent produce haulers. Got my CDL a few years later, and still driving today.
Brings back memories. Gave it up 3 weeks ago after 42.5 years. Loved the 80s and 90s. Early 2000s we’re ok. But somewhere, and I really don’t know when, around 2010 it seems. ,I started not liking trucking so much. When I started complaining about other truckers more than I was 4 wheelers, I knew we were in a bad place as far as trucking goes. But dam I sure loved those first 20 years.

What happened was you got tired of driving, so instead of admitting your passion to drive was fading you told yourself the new drivers are ruining it.
There was a time. A real good time. Convoys with front door truck doing 80mph . Hunting bears. Things changed a lot . Hats off old school truckers. Thanks 4 bringing back memories.

Not me. At 6 months on my CDL I was running coast to coast solo in a 362 Pete pulling a 48’ Kentucky NAVL “Big E” Electronics & Exhibits. When I asked my Ex-CoDriver what it paid he said $.25/mile. Turned out it was $.15/mile because I don’t do Forced Dispatch. The last time I got decent pay my co-driver spent at least 90% of his time texting behind the wheel, and had the nonprofessional habit of parking in fuel pits. Not worth it.
Noticed the filmer had a irish or British accent Many people in Europe were fascinated by American big rigs with engines powerful enough to move a tank as they didnt really have them in uk ...probably why he fimed a truck stop lol because to him it was amazing

Notice that roughly half the trucks shown here are cabovers. Ten years earlier (~1979) almost all of them would've been cabovers, while ten years later, there'd be hardly any. That JB Hunt truck at 5:10 could've been mine if it were a few years later (fugly and slow, lol).
Love the 359 Peterbilt rolling in.

Hmmm, that looks like the now Acme truck stop in Orlando off of Orange Blossom Trail (441 HWY) just south of the turnpike.
Wife did not get to happy after being told to move her head 😳
Stayed in this truck stop a few times, its crazy to see how that area has grown. Now its a completely urban area. Costs quite a bit just to park there now.
Gave it up 4 years ago after 42 years don't miss the last 20 much but would go back to first 20 years in A instant it was great,I believe the big difference is that most not all modern drivers drives because that's all the jobs there are, People drove trucks in early times did because they wanted too,Also A lot of drivers back then were vets so truck driving was not the hardest things they ever did.

Is this the truck stop where Proffesional Truck Brokers was located? With Mr. Parton and his boys?
In this time frame 89 or 90 my friends dad was driving a 70's model international cabover. Also in same timeframe me and my friend unloaded over 3000 watermellons by ourselves somewhere between three and four hours. The mellons were stacked floor to ceiling except right by the trailer doors they were about five feet high off the floor. Now a days i watch different youtubers where they sit at a dock for five or six hours to get palletized cargo off loaded. We got $50.00 each. That was like getting $12.50 hour.
The only great thing about this video for me is seeing all the old cabover trucks from back in that era!!!! Oh and that really nice T600 flattop in the beginning of the video.
