Couldn't bring myself to attend the new stadium until 2019. Losing Yankee Stadium was like losing a parent. I'll never really get over it.
they really shuold've renovated this place instead of building a new one

I agree!! That's what we did up in Boston after alot of back and forth deciding whether or not to renovate or build. Even as a Red Sox fan I missed the threat and challenge of playing at a loud, crazy Yankee Stadium.

I agree...however I don't think there was an old stadium like Yankee Stadium that I can think of. The outfield upper decks were the last of their kind remaining, and in my opinion, renovations could have ruined them. They were falling apart. It would've took a renovation that completely changed the appearance of the stadium like the one in the 1970s.

Yeah you're right. The way I see it is that if they could have renovated it to the extent that they did in the 70's, they could have easily renovated it further in 2008 or beyond

The most important aspect of the stadium was the ball field. The same ground that everyone from Babe Ruth to Derek Jeter played. Still can't believe that an organization like the Yankess - that trades so heavily on history and tradition - was willing to abandon that utterly crucial link to their history. Could have built anything around that field. Instead they left it behind. Yankees history has been gutted as a result.
As a Cubs fan in the northwest suburbs of Chicago I was very fortunate for having the old Yankee Stadium bringing me here. Nothing but nothing was as classical or as traditional as this old ballpark. Wrigley Field may have its charms in Chicago, but the old Yankee Stadium WAS all the charm of New York. I got emotional seeing the Yankees play their last game there on this highlight and the New York Police Department arriving in force to keep the crowd in control. From Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Mickey Mantle and Joe DiMaggio to Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Bernie Williams and Joe Giambi, the old Yankee Stadium was the heart and soul of America's pastime. And after 9/11 during the seventh inning during the postseason of 2001, a veteran sergeant from the NYPD would recite God Bless America, and right away I would cry. A very special moment in American history as well as New York history.

My family went to games at the old Yankee Stadium being a Yankees fan is in my family’s blood since the 20s I remember going to old Yankee Stadium with my sisters just great memories I miss it so much but of course I went to the last game greatest baseball game I’ve ever been to R.I.P. to the house that Ruth built 1923-2008
So sad it got demolished and all the history gone. I remember this stadium when I play 2005 mlb baseball On my GameCube. Come to think of it. It was 12 years ago since 2008. Time fly’s
What a beautiful atmosphere the original Yankee Stadium held. You can feel the ghosts of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig throughout the stadium, almost like they were helping the current Yankees at the time. It had a Postseason feel every game. I'm so glad to have gone to 5 games there while I was little. It was an unforgettable experience. The new stadium has to see a dynasty like the 90's Yankees to have that same feel.

It's going to need more than one dynasty to create the magic that the old stadium possessed. Even more important than the building though, was the field. I still cannot believe that the Yankees - the MLB organization that most heavily trades on history and tradition - were willing to leave behind the field that everyone from Babe Ruth to Derek Jeter played on.

New stadium, besides the obvious near impossibility of matching the old Yankees dynasties, can never have that feel because of the way its built---sound isn't trapped like the old stadium because the upper decks are recessed.

@@blpptdoesn’t mean the new stadium isn’t loud. The new stadium is pretty loud these days, I’ve had my ears ring at the 3 postseason games I’ve been to since 2017
@blppt

@@conpop6924 It isn't the same. Even in between pitches the old stadium had a low rumble from the fans---the new stadium is as quiet as a library in the same situation. Its the design---it simply cannot be as loud as the old one---the old one had the upper deck hanging over the field, which would trap the sound.
This stadium closed when I was 3. I went to one game at this stadium in its closing season 2008. I don’t have much memory of it, but there are pictures of me there, and at least I can say I’ve been to Yankee Stadium.
Tearing down Yankee Stadium was the worst thing you can do. This was home. This is what the Yankees were all about.

They tried to make the new stadium like the old one by music and the atmosphere but it will never be the same
So many childhood memories as a 10 year-old in '66. Let's face it though; It was time for it to go. You can only renovate so many times. Around '86, as a 30 year-old musician, I went while high on brown-dot acid. Upper deck, right-field side. I just knew I was gonna fall onto the field, & have Rizutto, White & Messer laugh at me on PIX. I hugged the railings like we were in love whenever I moved.

You were a dumbass dope addict. Nothing to do with any stadium. Shitbird.
A new stadium should have been built on the same site, just like the city did after the 1973 season. A large part of the Yankees lore was The Stadium. Every time people walked into the place they got goose bumps: The Babe, Lou Gehrig, Joe D and The Mick. ... What a shame.

I don't *hate* NYS, but it just doesn't really have anything appealing about it. Does have a GREAT Metro-North station that the old park didn't, though. NYS is just a lifeless slab of overpriced concrete.
Been to one game at the old yankee stadium. You could feel the ghosts of all the old Yankees. Worst thing the Yankees ever did was building a new stadium.
Simply magical. Watching this brought a tear to my eye. God I miss this place.
This is an amazing video
Talk about your once in a lifetime experience. Awesome !
It's a shame this stadium is gone now. Should still be in use. Money hungry stienbreners.
Derek Jeter ended up by himself at the end. It meant the most to him and appreciated the fans.
Watchin this was heartbreakin, like moving out of a house you grew up in smh..nothin beats the old stadium nothin!
I was at this game when it happened. thank you for uploading it!!!

Love and remember the old building but the new stadium is a thousand times better experience and aesthetic. We just need a few more championships to give it that feeling
I am not sure if you knew this, but it also has hosted football before. Before the Giants moved to Giants Stadium in East Rutherford NJ, their home field was here. The Jets were at Shea. Also, when NYU was Division 1, they played here. St. John’s was at Shea.
I'm a Red Sox fan but I am glad I got to go Yankee Stadium to watch a game at least once ('99) before it got torn down.
Que gran video. Gracias
Perfect and fitting for the game to end at 11:42 with Mo closing it out
why’d that guy run onto the field with like 100 police officers out there lol
Are you listening to John Sterling announce the game on the radio or are you that close to the Press Box that you can hear him??
crazy how the guy who ran on the field got past two lines of riot cops till they tackled him. imagine everyone ran onto the field, the cops would be useless
I was there and it was Electric and Depressing at the same time
I bet when the new stadium closes 100 years from now fans and players will find a way to take a portion of the stadium's WI-FI signal home with them
Filming from George Costanzas office I see
they only turned it into ballfields anyway. at this rate they could have just left the old stadium standing instead of demolishing it

Problem was that nobody could afford to keep it open. You'd be surprised how much a stadium costs just to have it open for a day. However it could've had potential to rake in a lot more with tourism and other events.

They killed the ghosts and the aura, the mystique. Bad decision.

The Yanks won that night. A great closing to the greatest sports venue in the world, never to be seen again. It is now and forever gone.
The real Yankee Stadium closed on Sunday, September 30, 1973. This place was a mutilation. When Whitey Ford was asked that day about how he felt about the place closing, he said "I don't know, I never worked there". And since the field was 9 feet lower than in the original one, he was right. Babe Ruth would never have recognized this imitation "House that Ruth Built".
14:27 You're welcome
