Absolutely love this video, amazing, I really hope you have found the issue and fixed this guys problem. Seemed like the issue was not at all intermittent so should be easy to show it running right. I’ve held my hand on a down pipe before to see which cylinder has a misfire, such a simple thing. Quick Question though, did you take note of which float valve came out of which carb, as it was Number 1 with the issue I’m wondering if that was the one with the stuck plunger. Very much look forward to part 2 if you get enough time to upload. Excellent video Jim... I think this guy is going to be grateful for your services.

Always interesting to see how you diagnose a problem. I have been on the recieving end of that sort of pathetic workmanship and outright lieing about work done, from a car main dealer. Needless to say they never got any more business from me, other than over the parts counter. I occasionally regret not reporting them to trading standards. These rogues rely on the customer having no mechanical inclination or understanding.

I'm looking forward to part 2... Had a fair few bad memories of R6 motors. I bought one thinking a bad rattle was the cam chain or tensioner. But it turned out to be a spun big end bearing on number 3! It was caused by too much silicone on the stator cover and blocked up the oil feed pipe.

Old video but these early R6's tend to crack their nikasil liners when people flog them before they warm up properly. I had one that had done that. then did a big end bearing on that cylinder. Crank was junk, rods were junk, block was junk, only good part was the cylinder head. Also these run like shite without the standard air filter.

I’m starting to work on an old R6 track day bike I’ve had stored for years. Those plugs are a pain because of the air box. I loosen the radiator and tie it off out of the way and it’s a little easier. No Messing with the air box. Just gotta take off more fairing.

I've actually done that on My CB-750's Float Bowls before in the AutoZone Parking lot. I actually got away with it, and it's still holding up Today. But I didn't use anywhere near that much and I smoothed it out with My Finger so it couldn't come squirting out into the Float Bowl .

@3:05... that high pitched "ticky" noise is the sound of a stock, factory tuned, very lean R6 at idle speed. Pilot jet adjustment and a jet kit will fix that up. Then you get an R6 that sounds like a proper sport bike. The ignition coils like to die on these bikes as well. I'm on my second aftermarket coil set now. Got her running like a champ again.

Intermittent fault are a challenge as you cannot repair a fault that is not evident. Intermittent can be the start of that aspect breaking eventually which in a repair is simpler to find. A good disconnection can be found, that every other Thursday fault you may never find.

Just bought one exactly like that. Seller told me that it felt flat after 4-5k, but pushes again after 8k. After a year of not riding it, it doesn't even want to start and the fuel pump gives irregular clicking sound. I think the carb probably need to be deep cleaned and maybe the old fuel even damaged the pump?
