+rhino250r Hard to say that for sure. Polaris and Can-Am have been making 95+ HP SxS's for a handful of years now. I don't think it's fair to give Yamaha the benefit of the doubt because they have never built a high performance SxS before, no way to know for sure it is better built. I can say from fit and finish on the plastics, I think the Yamaha is a little rougher than the Can-Am. I haven't been able to compare a YXZ1000 to a RZR though so I can't comment on that.

I've never owned a axe. What I can say is that I've owned multiple Yamaha atvs and street bikes and one can am renegade 800. After having the gear box rebuilt twice, having to replace a water pump seal, a radiator due to a bulging problem because of not enough adequate ventilation in the coolant reservoir, I will never own a can am again. My 2007 raptor 700 has been thrashed on the trails and in the dunes for 8 years and has given me a lick of trouble. It still has the original battery, something that had to be replaced after 2 years in my renegade. I can also say that for me, shifting is so much more engaging and fun than that lethargic belt drive. Also, the way belts put the power down is different. They will always be quicker from a start than a manual. It would've been interesting to see them run a longer distance drag race or a 20 mph roll on. I can say for me, I personally know which one of these machines I'd have more fun in.

Really ? The radiator issue with the can ams has not existed since 2007. As for having the tranny rebuilt twice...that was never an issue unless the owner did not maintain it, or drowned the bike and water entered through the breather lines. Come to think of it...all threes c/a issues you listed were pretty much restricted to "geniuses" who played in deep water/mud and did not equip their bikes befor, or maintain them afterward.

Long - term off road enthusiast: over the years, I've owned and operated 2 Jeeps, 2 dirt bikes, 2 trials bikes (observed trials competitor) , one atv and one side by side. I ran most of these rigs before the interweb was alive.. The technology today is nothing short of amazing, the power, suspension, drivetrains, configurations available, etc.... all you need is $$ [c; The keyboard commandos are alive and well, right here - going on, and on, and on, about "Which one is fastest" "who's the better driver" and so- on. Your'e all sadly missing the point of off-roading (well, most of you)...... I, for one, don't give a rat's ass which one is fastest. The point is, get something you can afford, get out and enjoy being off road. Stop the pissing and whining about what's better or faster. No matter if you have the fastest machine right now, in 6 months you won't.... so why be so obsessed ?

its funny maybe you should give the yami a chance.its there first one .like the raptor 660 they started out soft but now its the most bulletproof quad on the market. next year yamaha will fix any issues and add a turbo ...if yamaha put everything into it at first there would be nothing to upgrade

I do agree with you on giving yammi a chance to redeem themselves, unfortunately, yamaha will always suffer from longevity issues...wether it's the wiring issues after 3-4 years, or the catastrophic mechanical failures after 5. Yamaha does not last.

+scottcamaross I own a raptor 700 and the thing is the fastest thing out their but the thing isn't reliable. The transmission sometimes acts up and the external oil tank filed itself up to the brim 3 times and stayed there! The Yamaha mechanics have no idea what's up. The Polaris on the other hand has 2500 miles on it and has only needed a tuning! Gotta love Polaris...

the only way to test is the same driver in each side by side racing against time. None of them have the same style tire either. If the Polaris and Can-am both had the turbo side by sides out there racing that yamaha, the camera would need a super wide angle lens so you could watch the yamaha finish. lol

+Mike Panocatapolis (Not boba fett) you might should watch it again because I seen the Yamaha win two races. anyways these are not drag racers these side by sides are built to have fun on. and I know for a fact that the RZR 1000 are tearing front differentials rear shocks cv joints up . my neighbor has a 1000 razor it stays tore up all the time it's a piece of shit I guarantee you you won't find those Yamaha breaking down the polarities are built in Mexico now the quality is not there . that's why they are junk.

no disrespect . but who ever drove the YXZ needs to learn how to "power" shift . all good machines however you cant expect to win if your letting off the gas 4 times during a 1/8th mile drag race. that being said ive owned and raced Yamaha's my whole life and to me they are just a higher standard of quality and engineering. Horsepower is NOT everything in a machine its about balance . other wise it would just be a lawn mower with a LS2 in it . just my $.02

+michael harris I was one of the drivers in that race. We were dropping the clutch on the Yamaha at 9-10k off the line in 4wd and NEVER lifting thru EVERY race, (speed shifting).... On the floor, barely touching the clutch for shifts and shifting near redline each time. I assure you, that Yamaha cannot be driven any faster under that scenario, we tried.

Guys, three of the sxs were not turbo and fully stock, i suppose Can-am was xds but not turbo, because in the last video there was rzr turbo versus rzr not turbo but we all know that mav turbo is far faster than rzr turbo In conclusion, yxz sucks if you compete it to the rzr and mav turbos

+rugby In a drag race it seems to hold it's own. And SWO TAR is right, on any kind of trail riding the YXZ1000R would be pretty difficult and painful to drive. Don't get me wrong, I'm impressed with Yamaha's entering into the pure sport SxS market, but remember Polaris and Can-Am have been dominating this segment for 7 years now. Let's not completely dismiss them as viable options.
