Great video! Thanks to it, I was able to fully restore my Yamaha yp-66 turntable. The instructions were clear and detailed, helping me to solve the issue quickly and without unnecessary expenses.

My YP-211 is missing the anti skating weight and it runs fine. I did look it up and on a Vinyl forum a 211 owner stated his was 1/16th ounce.

Thanks for posting this. I have this exact model and one of our cats used it as a launching pad and kicked it off the amp, and since then it was playing at a very uneven speed. maybe the cat shook some dirt or just moved something. Either way, I just followed this video to open it up, clean the motor and bearing, grease it all up again, and put it back together, and now it's working like new again. Probably saved me $150 or more to take it in to get serviced.

I love you my friend!!! My motor was rattling on my Yamaha YP-66 turntable, I watched your video and fixed the problem myself. Thanks for saving me the cost and the wait. "CHEERS"

Impressed by these CEC made tables. Seem to be a quality alternative to Technics.

Nice episode. And it would be hilarious/amazing if that actually turned out to have been your turntable. Had a question about your comment on the cartridge alignment, as I noticed you eyeballed it and just sort of straightened it to the headshell: is there a certain amount of "woo-woo" to cartridge alignments? I know there are various alignments that seem to alternately increase/mitigate distortion on different points of a record (and audiophiles who swear by each). For s-shaped tonearms, does it really just come down to having it square in the headshell? Is that why Technics uses an overhang gauge? Thanks!

Most vintage turntable manuals have a specified length from stylus tip to headshell collar gasket with cartridge square in the headshell. There were no fancy alignment protractors back in the day.

Hi Turntable Guy - I have a YP-77 that is having an issue. When I press the start button, the tonearm lifts up, the platter starts spinning, but instead of sliding over to the record and dropping down, it stays in place and then drops and the platter stops spinning. I think it might be a simple reset of the start mechanism, but I don't know how to do that. I'm a turntable newbie. Any suggestions?

The 77 has a bit of a complex starting mechanism under the buttons. There are a myriad of gears and springs that are probably gummed up with old grease. It needs to be taken apart, cleaned and re-lubricated. Take lots of pictures.

Please help. Where can I find a counterweight for YP-B2 tonearm?

Gonna be difficult. You may want to have one machined out of aluminum and then set the tracking force with a digital scale.

Hi I seem to be having trouble commenting right now for some reason was watching this video I have a yp-77 with the same cartridge and a new old stock matching stylus should I have a metal plate in the headshell? I have commented a few times so if you have a few asking the same question sorry in advance.

If you mean a spacer, then you'll have to check that yourself. Check to see if the arm is perfectly parallel with the platter with the stylus down on a record. Then add or remove the plate as necessary.

Great video. I have the same turntable and when the auto return activates it scrapes across the record? I can't figure out how to adjust the part that lifts the arm up? Any suggestions?

  • @TurntableGuy

Check the actual lift arm. There should be a small screw at the side which will allow you to raise or lower the height of the arm when auto-returning and cueing.

@@TurntableGuy do you know if the STOP button on the d202 is a solenoid switch? On my D202 the button doesn’t always stop the record. I’ve looked inside and there is a board sitting right over the button. I’m afraid to remove it because I don’t want to crack the small clips holding it in place.

Hello to turntable guy that's the first thing I checked and thanks for fast response I did not expect one so soon butit was not stuartpimpel not sure how to spell it but I turned it over to see where noise was originating from it is coming from cycle cam as it moves when it reaches middle of camI forgot name of the part that follows along the guide to move tone arm is where the noise comes from when I move over a little away from the guide it stops somebody put lithium grease I guess to stop it but I cleaned out most of grease and I tried a little silicone spray after a few runs it quieted down like I said the person who sold it to me said it was not used much and if you saw this you can see it was not played much at all so far it is quieter when cycling ocasionally you will here a little squeek but don't know if it will last I ran it playing records for several hrs it will make a very faint noise but not loud like before , just once in a while I am thinking as it is used it might break in ??????? not sure so far my successes have been lucky so far ,I am not a pro like you if you can think of another idea I would be gratefull thanks ever so much for your response it was still helpfull JRo

turntable guy on my Dual 1225 it was cycle gear squeeking along took it apart and sanded it with fine sandpaper but still squeek so I used silicone lube used for filling in when cueing does not work on tonearm anymore used it on a ATLP-120 TT so I figured it was thick cause whenever I used silicone spray it would go away but come bak after several plays so this is silicone but thicker I used a small amount and spread it on squeeking area and so far it is quiet (thank god) this was a very annoying sound I hope it lasts long I will see JRo
