    Do not worry about oil pooling in the head ;) There is a drain passage pissing oil out to the cam chain enclosure, the oil can't even build up far enough to reach the three small holes on the OEM bushing. Good job!

    Many owners did it, and had no problems including me. Looking at your engine tear down, looks like you had the typical camshaft seizing on the front... That is caused by oil starvation(😁clearly) so check the oil union bolt on the engine where the 2 lines separate. Loads of the bolts hasn't been drilled out properly from the factory and cause to starve the front cylinder.

    Thanks for checking out my content! I appreciate any and ALL feedback! There's another motor i need to tear down too. I'm hoping to make one good engine from both, but also looking for it to be dependable. The goal is to finish it so my wife can learn on it!

    You just gave me an idea for my next upload! I'll check out those oil bores! But also pull the cams from the more recent engine and see what the damage is there. Are you thinking that pin sheared off from too much bearing friction? (oil starvation to the cam wouldn't allow it to keep up with the crank and timing chain?)

  • @MidlandCruiser

    @MidlandCruiser

    Hello, your welcome. Yes that pin sheared because the bushing didn't have enough oil and just siezed. If you fully split the engine then check the "oil pressure releif valve" to make sure it didn't stuck open, because that way the pump can't build the pressure up and causing the same damage. The bearing upgrade is worth it anyway, as I been told amateur racers do it with thier bikes straight away to reduce friction, hence getting more power...

    Nice! very helpful, but i have a question i bought a pair of 6205 bearings for my camshaft (xv750 1983) and found that the camshaft is loose in the center of the bearing, is this normal or do I need to change my camshaft? any ideas? note : original bushing fits very well

    Hi, welcome to my channel. The bushing is the same in all Virago, even in Dragstar. When you say loose, do you mean up-down or in-out. If you bought the recommended 6205 C3 bearing than yes that has a slight movement in-out, but not a lot (can't remember exactly how much, but really shouldn't make you worry to be honest, that small) , that is the C3 clerance, once the bearing reaches operating temperature it goes away. If it's moving up-down, that shouldn't happen maybe you have a faulty bearing, make sure you buy from a trusted source and high quality one (FAG, NSK, SKF, KOYO) If your bearing is not a C3 one and you have movement than definitely something is not right, without actually see, and measure it I can't help you more, sorry..

    @@MidlandCruiser The loose is up-down, the outer diameter fits very well, the inner diameter (between the camshaft and the bearing) is a little loose, i will check a better quality bearing to check this recommendation. I really appreciate your help, thank you very much! Greetings from Mexico.

    The proper dimensions for the middle is 25mm, the outer is 52 and the thickness is 15mm, it is a slide fit, meaning there cannot be any movement up-down. The gap is so tiny you shouldn't feel anything. If you take your camshaft to the bearing shop I'm sure they have a digital caliper to measure it for you and should be 25mm or 24.99 somewhere there..

    Yes you can it will work with all 750 1000 1100. The bushing is exactly the same size as the bearing. 25x52x15

    i'm not sure that bearing has the same loading capacity as te original bushing...

  • @MidlandCruiser

    @MidlandCruiser

    3 жыл бұрын

    The technical data showes that this bearing has 14.8KN capacity for shock load, and 7.8KN static load, also can spin 18.000rpm without a problem. The problem with the bushing is that the oiling system on the virago is a little weak to the heads and can cause the bushing to sieze up while the bearing won't... There is also a little power gain, as many small cc racers do this to thier bikes as a no1 upgrade.. And lastly the load from the camshaft is not a lot to be honest otherwise the bushing wouldn't be soft aluminium... 😉 And very lastly, this is just a suggestion and by no means a compulsory "upgrade" many people out there riding with still bushing in the engine without an issue

    Yes it can be done on the 535 ! but not with this 6205 bearing you will need the right size to fit the 535 or measure your camshaft bush and then your good to go !

    I attempted this Mod today on my 1997 XV535 and can report that this 6205 bearing will not fit the 535 !! This mod can still be done but with a different size bearing ! once I measure the bushing I can then work out the bearing size needed, unless anyone knows the size of the bushing measurements or the correct size bearing needed for the 535, please let me know in the comments !! hope this is of help to any other 535 owners out there.
